I love the Lions Social Club, I think I'll go there this Friday night. The beautiful thing about Social Club's is that it is our club, the members and we always have a right to go there and talk footy and financially support our team through using their facilities.

No idea who you are anon.
I was at the Lions social club on Friday arvo/ evening. Some guy from the club came along at about 5pm and sacked the whole staff. Said that it was running at a loss, something like 750,00 in one year.
So no meals, no nothing.
Felt for the staff, sacked no payouts etc.
I wonder if the Lions are again in financial strife. I hope not.

You had better be joking guys. I took my kids to the social club on Thursday night for a meal, it was packed. I also took out a 5 year membership.

i would like some answers towhat is bloody well happening at my club. I heard that they were having a special damage control board meeting yesterday. I hate to say it but my club is arrogant. Whenever you ring up or email them to ask a question, they never ever get back to you, and if they do you could get abused like a friend of mine last year over his membership.
If we are losing money hand over fist, why isn't anyone doing anything about it.

That's a good question Lion_John maybe no one really does care about members. I really think that is the truth of it.

Sounds like they've been getting PR and membership advice from us! Soon you'll notice how much emphasis is placed on the corporate boxes, and how the everyday members are gradually driven away, or those remaining told not to shout so loud that it upsets those 'above' them.

The media will start to criticise the entire crowd week in week out, which then begins to turn on itself. Then your star but underperforming interstate players will go home because they can't handle the pressure being put on them by the media and frustrated (but suitibly quiet) crowd.

Oh, and opposition supporters will start calling your club artificial, and its supporters passionless.

Please do something about it now

Eagle_Fan, you have hit the nail on the head! Tat is exactly what has been happening up here. Corporote getting better deals and time frames for memberships, Corporate getting the functions, such as the jumper presentation night, instead of the members.

Supporters deserting their Social Club in droves over the last 3 years due to decreasing services and functions offered.

AS for PR - WHAT THE HELL IS THAT??? No Ads this year in the newspapers - bar maybe one a week before a game - No tv advertising bar 2 or 3 ads a week late at night (11pm - 1am timeslot). NO competitions for mascots (they come from a draw of junior members), No ticketing comps etc!

My family are "foundation members" from the days of the Bears - end of last year we looked at buying a corporate box thru the family company for season 2000. Our offers for Coporate membership arrived 3 weeks before our individual renewal notices. And also inidviduals had 2 weeks to retain their same seats etc, ending 2 days before xmas. Corporate had till mid January to pay a deposit then even more time to pay the balance!!

Anywonder they are crying "poor" over their soical club!! Who wants to go somewhere you aren't wanted???

Molar, taking your question in all seriousness - no it is not. This the Brisbane Bears-Fitzroy Football Club Ltd, Social Club at the Gabba.

Funny tho hey that both clubs are crying financial trouble. Different Leagues of course. But Coburg-Fitzroy in trouble - mainly with the Tax Dept.

Bris Lions Social Club in trouble, and according to what staff were told - to the tune of a $750k loss in the last year.

Both Clubs having affiliation with Fitzroy, who had it's huge financial troubles. HOWEVER, having gotten my hands on a copy of the Brisbane Lions (aka Brisbane Bears - Fitzroy Australian Football Club) constitution in the last day or 2, I can see why the probs are there. Geez, it was a big deal in '98 when we got rid of N Gordon, unfortunately, he wasn't the only problem, just the one of them with the big mouth.

Same things still going on up here, just not heard about, as none of the board members have the "mouth" that Gordon had. At least back then, we knew things were coming, even if we couldn't do anything about it. Now we find out after the fact.

And as for the Social Club issue up here in Brisbane. There was an article placed on the Lions website on Friday 21st July. This was a week after the staff were all sacked and the 5th day of the new operations. What about the memebers that don't log on to the web??? They still haven't been informed!!! They will just have to learn the hard way, ie going to the club after work for a drink to get told it shuts at 6pm now!! (on those certain days of the week!)

The rumour I heard may just well be true after all. I thought the bloke who told me was having a lend of me. He said that the Lions are having massive financial troubles.Bloody hell, what happened to the damned $6 million.
For me if its true, the admin and board have to go. Thats massive mismanagment to be in economic strife so close to the merger. What a crock.
By the way I am a member and we haven't heard anything about this social club thing, in the mail mind you.
Treat us like mushrooms and feed us shit.
