Looks like Don Hanley is bringing the old Stkilda culture to Carlton, three players that shouldve been suspended are ordered to do extra training sessions. Now Don i think we would have respected you more if you just came out and said boys will be boys, and they can do whatever they want as long as they are good players we need in our side. At least that would have been the truth. NO PARKIN NO CARLTON

When is the public going to accept that footballers are prone to making the same mistakes we are.

It is not as if they did anything that almost everyone of us has done in the past.

Why penalise the side because a couple of fellas got up to a ittle bit of hi-jinx.

Noone was hurt, it was simply a bit of fun and the scrutiny on these players is unbelievable.

From the reports that have come out recently, the boys didn;t actually harm anyone or anything, had a bit of fun and may have slightly overstepped the mark.

Is it really that big a deal - rape charges and the like are a different kettle of fish, yet players have been left to let the law decide.

This is not even in the same vicinity of misdemeanour.

I agree with the "mo" in general but it does raise serious issues for Brittain. The lack of discipline and professionalism of the players involved should have been punished otherwise it appears they are happy to condone such behaviour. Brittain should take a leaf out of Frawley's and Pagan's books.

Your prolly right Kym, but apparantley a fire extinguisher was used on a young lady who answered a knock on her dorm door at the Uni. I imagine this would have been pretty frightening, a bit of hijinx perhaps, but surely all listed AFL players are aware of the scrutiny they are under, how stupid would you have to be to one week before the season start pull a prank like that! Allegedly it was not the first time that this has happened at the campus. Even the great Jack Elliot (who is prone to look stupid himself on certain occassions) called it disgraceful.

Well, well, well,
Kimmy, haven't you changed your tune from your post about Moorcroft, he didn't spray an innocent woman with a fire extinguisher, if it had of been a Bomber player who had done that, you would be of bagging the hell out of them, calling for their blood.

They are only playing Freo... they could have suspended half the team... so yes it was a bit soft of Brittain...

These non-decisions always come back to haunt you...

How did I know that the St Kilda culture would somehow be brought into this issue?

At least the Kangaroos, Hawthorn, Collingwood, Fremantle, Port Adelaide, West Coast and Richmond supporters will have something to blame any indiscretions on. "We have a saints player in our side. Must be their culture!"

Still, the irony of Malcolm Blight discussing his pleasure at how the team have accepted the new discipline measures and Carlton's current trouble is a little funny.

Sorry ODN!

Kym, the fact that it is a week out from the season has to be a big concern. This is the kind of thing we expect on footy trips, not the week before Round 1.

Manthing

What are you talking about you dill.

Did I suggest Moorcroft should be suspended, or dealt with by the club for any of the mentioned misdemeanours in that thread you absolutely paranoid baboon.

I merely stated that he was a big head who thought that his premiership medallion gave him the right to wear some badge of honour on his chest when hanging aroung his enormously talented mates.

And made the point the little dud could fall victim to Brad Pearce syndrome.

Where in that thread did I mention that he should have been disciplined - christ the guy is a dickhead, as too is Matty Lappin from my experience of actually drinking with him in the Star Bar about three years ago and watching his ridiculous carry on - but the point I am making in this thread is that they are human, and to discipline them for this prank is ridiculous.

Christ, we have all carried on like these lads at some stage in our lives and if we hadn't, we wouldn't be worth talking to.

Doesn't mean I have to admire Moorcroft or Lappin though does it??????

BUBBALOUIS,

No problem. I would have used the same line if I wasn't a saints fan.

Bee,

I have been very critical of Spider Everitt on these very boards. And I realise my club is a hell of a long way from perfect. But I don't apologise for looking at things through one eye. That's why we are passionate supporters.

I do admit to disliking Carlton with a passion and that primarily stems from the derogatory comments made about our club by your President. But yes, the fact that your club is now run by our former CEO and that one of our former players was involved in this latest incident at the same time as things are falling into place for us is a little amusing for me.

Sorry Bee, I'm not usually this bitter.

well i was sickened to hear what those three players did and there is no excuses. They might be footballers but they are still people and like anyone would have payed for that sort of behaviour so should they, they are no different just coz they play AFL footy!

GO DEES!

Well I just heard his (Elliot) speech from some official Carlton dinner function and all I can honestly say is I can't believe the guy. He has no idea as to how stupid he really is. Take this for example:

"You are a disgrace to the Carlton Football Club
eek.gif
"

Well instead of an awe-inspiring speech bagging the players isn't exactly something that goes down well. I cant believe you guys stick with him, he is the biggest hypocrite, money lugging, fat pie eating, stupid, vile and disgusting person out there. I am pretty sure that some of you will be agreeing with me!

Derogatory comments? Funny, I can't remember Jack ever saying anything derogative about St Kilda. I do however remember him calling you "rabble", but I can't see how you could construe that as derogative. Sounded pretty spot on to me!
Oh and perhaps it would be best to wait until the season has at least started before you begin saying silly things like "things are falling into place for us". It may not seem so amusing after all.

perhaps the dog fans would like to comment on the "tragic histroy' speech he mad. Or sainters, the 'rabble' speech.

This guy is a PIGS arseh*le plain and simple, and its testament to the stupidity of the Carlton members that he is still there as President.
I would be embarrassed to have him as my president.

eddie doesnt run around swearing and smoking and saying our players are a 'disgrace to the collingwood football club"

he has pride and is proud of the club. John Elliot is just an arrogant unsophiscated liberal swine.

Jack only tells it like it is. Those three players were a disgrace to the Carlton football club.
Say what you like about Jack, it's probably all true anyhow, but one thing I've never heard him say, is racial comments.
Did Collingwood ever have a President like that?

Bee im not having a go at ya, but Elliots problem is his credibility, how can he call those three players a disgrace, when only last season he lost his licence for drink driving (while at the footy in his role as pres of Carlton) and was forced to apologise to a female over his behaviour at an official AFL function, didnt see him publicly berate himself over those incidents

Remember when he said that aboriganals were welcome at Carlton because Syd Jackson was just like a white fella.

Ask Syd what he thinks Bee Brain.

Bee,

I've never denied that we were disgraceful last year. I wouldn't go as far to say that we were a rabble, but you are entitled to your opinion. I just happen to think that it is extremely poor form for a president from another league club to comment on the affairs of a rival club. Particularly in the manner that he did.

I have also heard St Kilda in the past described as Carlton's reserves team, due to the amount of Carlton players that finished their careers at St Kilda. I'm fairly certain it was John Elliott that said this. Yet the fact that such superstars like Sam Cranage and Matthew Lappin are now at Carlton is a bit of a role reversal.

As for my comments about things falling into place, I was talking about off-field developments. I have no idea how we are going to perform this year. What I do know is that our membership is already the same as last years total figure (up 40% compared to the same time last year), hundreds of thousands of dollars have been spent redeveloping our training base at Moorabbin and we have been successful in attracting a champion coach and some highly talented players. So yes, I think things are falling into place at St Kilda.

Well put Sainter.
It seems some Blues are trying to start spot fires to deflect attention from the topic.
