The kangaroos and Adelaide were beneficiaries of incredibly weak draws courtesy of the uneven afl fixture. It resulted in Adelaide finishing top 4 over a superior side in west coast and north making the 8 over superior sides in st kilda or Carlton.

The result of all that is west coast finished 5th and got a home elimination final against the kangaroos. Hardly a shock how it has panned out.

Also interesting to see how petrie and walker performed - both had great seasons on the back of demolishing poor sides.
credibility = 0

^Two of our wins were against top 4 sides though. Not to mention we beat everyone directly below us fighting for 8th spot (Saints/Carlton/Richmond/Essendon). It's over now but we should of beat WC in Tassie too, very unlucky.
But North fail when it matters most. Their last 10 finals. Not a good finals record at all.

2000 QF v Essendon 125pt loss
2007 QF v Geelong 106pt loss
2012 EF v Eagles 96pt loss
2007 PF v Port 87pt loss
2005 EF v Port 87pt loss
2000 PF v Melbourne 50pt loss
2002 EF v Melbourne 38pt loss
2008 EF v Swans 35pt loss

2007 SF v Hawks 33pt win
2000 SF v Hawks 10pt win

0_o!

I just couldn't believe the first 10mins of the match to be honest the defensive pressure of North well GWS would of probably chased/tackled harder than that.

That shit isn't easily fixed.

And? 2000 was an end of an era (7 prelims in a row) and through out 2001-2009 we've simply had a shit team, simple as that. Right now we're just young. If we make finals over the next few years and still get pumped, then I'll be worried.

I agree , I think Fremantle are genuine chances over in Adelaide, in fact I pick them to win. They look very purposeful and strong.
The Eagles will have a hard day at the office with Collingwood who are desperate to have another shot.
I predict a hard mangling type of game , and I am not going to have a pick because I just don,t know.
I know the Pies got well beaten by a very good team , my Hawks , but the Eagles really beat a pretender
who were never going to win. And its like having a warm up boxing bout with a journey man who this time can,t make the journey before you go on to the championship fight, so they are unknown for me, in terms of finals . But they are good, how good???????
We,ll know next week.

I wish I could say the same for Richmond.. but they'd have to make finals first. ;)

so was ok for north to get screwed last year 2 trips to subi pies on a six day break all in the first four rounds.......soft draw or not we needed 10 wins out of 12 games and we got it....so there...dont spin we were at etihad blah ah......the pies play at the g like 14 times a year.....14 games in melbourne ffs.......just too hard to make everyone happy

How is it a rubbish line about us only losing to West Coast by 30 points at Subiaco? That was the actual scoreline and it actually flattered West Coast as the game was closer than that for most of the 2nd half. We didn't get smashed all year so I doubt we would have been smashed by close to 100 points yesterday if we played West Coast.

Also when I was talking about atrocious umpiring that cost us wins I was talking about our games against Port, Freo and Collingwood not the North game so bringing that up is irrelevant.

Well they beat us by 25 points at Subi - if they bet you by 30 they would have won by 101 on the weekend. Guessing what could have happened is fun.

The North V Saints game is relevant - you complain when you get bad umpiring but when you are clearly favoured you say nothing. Every team has good and bad games with the umps. The Saints are no worse off than any other AFL team.

Sometimes the team that finishes 8th is decent, sometimes they're crap. Sometimes there's a gulf between the top 4 and the rest, sometimes there's a gulf between the top 5/6 and the rest, sometimes there's 1 dominant team, sometimes there's not.

Yes the fixture is unprofessional and a joke compared to other codes but it's not always necessarily to blame for finals blowouts.

Mate...why dont you post Richmonds finals results? Say for the past 40 years!

Ive read this 8 or 9 times and think I get it now....so what youre saying is that sometimes a team is better than another team but this sometimes isnt the case because the better team was aided by a fixture that if it wasnt as it currently is but more like other codes would mean the better team that isnt wouldnt have been better because they were only better because the fixture wasnt right to begin with. I like that logic.

So because West Coast beat you by an extra 71 points on Sunday they would have automatically beaten St Kilda by an extra 71 points too, yeah strong logic.

North are a young team that had clearly run out of legs towards the end of the season and lacks finals experience which contributed to the blow out on Sunday. St Kilda has an older team with more finals experience and we also don't have a recent history of finals blow outs like North has so it's a lot less likely we would have been blown out of the water by West Coast in that final like North were.

As for the North v Saints game we may have got the better of the umpiring in that game, one of the only times this year, but it didn't affect the result as North still won by 5 or 6 goals. The other three games I was talking about were all decided by less than two goals so the umpiring did affect the results in those games.

Not really if you dont realise the soft draw you have had this year why would i bother talking to you..? o_O
Simple stuff really...
We did have a good draw but you said we were gifted 16 premiership points. Now back that up with facts to prove your credibility! what were these 4 extra wins we got over everybody else?

You played the Giants, Suns and Port twice i thought you played the dee's or the dogs twice too but only once.. My bad, ill give you port twice as it is a "showdown weekend" but the others thats 12 points that most other stronger sides didnt get..You take 12 points off, say play WC at home or geelong at home and you would have finished around where maybe you should have about 5th or 6th..All hypothetical of coarse, i think most fans would agree you had a good fixture? Nothing you can do, can only play the teams your fixtured against. Simple

So you accept playing Poort twice but then you count it anyway??o_O
you do realise that most teams would either play at least one of the Suns and Giants twice?
Others also played other crap teams like the Dogs or Melbourne twice?
There is no way we had 12 extra points....

Fair enough, i guess everyone is wrong then and you did deserve to have finish where you did..

Richmond didn't play Suns or GWS twice. In fact, we only got 2 wins from GC/GWS/Port whereas Adelaide got 6! If you swap that around, Adelaide have 13 wins and miss finals, while Richmond finish 6th!

IRON-CLAD PROOF OF DRAW-RIGGING

Richmond lost to Gold Coast and drew with Poort. You are utterly irrelevant any way you look at it!

unfortunately for both of us, carlton losing to GC makes this contention void. we really had no place being in the finals whether or not we lost to north already (which we did).

next year GC might look for the soft draw where they play us twice.

Adelaide SMASHED west coast in the minor round.
If you look at the game on the weekend we had 20 odd more inside 50s and more scoring shots AND we played terrible. If we could kick for goal we win that game. The roos were lacking finals experience and had to head to perth...tough ask in anyones language. Plus in an elimination final once you're out of the game its hard to keep that 100% effort up (subconciously - im not saying they stopped trying)

Im not going to get involved which team did which and such but the thing i will say is its not always who you play but also when you play them. Essendon are the prime example but the bulldogs are as well. They were decent in the first half of the year yet in the second half were the worst of second worst side going around.

I watch every game, every year and the saints did have a tough run with fixturing and umpiring decisions in a few close games. Sometimes the luck swings your way and sometimes it doesn't. Just ask milne about the end of 2010 grand final. I do know however that the saints would have been more competitive than north against us last weekend. That however has little to do with the draw and a whole lot to do with finals experience and hardness. Once the eagles kicked their first goal of the final quarter north broke down mentally and thats when it became a flogging. A finals hardened team wouldnt have broken like that and it would have likely been a 40-50 point victory to us rather than close to 100.

Just on the fixture with the return games i think the top 9 clubs should play 3 return games against top 9 sides the previous year and the bottom 9 should play 3 return games against bottom 9 sides each year. It's the closest thing to fair imo within the restraints we have in not being able to play home and away.

On the finals issue i think every finals system the afl has had is completely and utterly flawed. There should be no such thing as a second chance in finals. top 8 sides, highest ranked team plays lowest ranked team with the highest ranked team playing at home until there is a premier. It cuts out a week of finals but its a truly fair system. Shit you could even schedule that missed week as an extra home and away game and fixture it so every team plays return games against 3 top half of the table sides and 3 bottom half of the table sides.

The problem with the afl is its not about equality and the fairness of the competition. Teams from non footballing states get academies, zone selections, salary cap incentives and these things are not talked about and shouldnt be happening. People always talk about how brilliant sydney's trading has been but most of it is due to the extra salary cap space they have. They wouldnt have got mumford, kennedy of mcglynn without it. (mumford in particular)

So you guys didnt play GC and GWS at all? That would make it 8 points, and what were your double up games?

LOL at the Richmond guy...Im hoping that was sarcasm considering you lost to the Gold Coast. Maybe if you'd played them twice you would have had one less win
