Seriously, why do we always blame the coach when we have losses that involve players standing on their heals, waiting for others to do the work, not wanting to support their team mates? He can't bloody get out there and play the game for the players - the players knew what was required this week and they produced it for less than a quarter. Look at the effort, the run, the spread and the defensive pressure from last week and during the first quarter against North and then realise that Bailey can coach, does know what he is talking about but needs some help to get our lazy players to get off their arses and play like men week in and week out.

We are officially a bunch of SOFT LAZY SILVER SPOONERS - end of story. That will remain our tag in this competition until our players can prove it to be incorrect. There have been signs over the last 2 weeks that we can break out of that tag but even SOFT players can produce a good effort every now and then - hardened, tough MEN can do it for 4 quarters week in and week out - win or lose - its the effort that we want to see - the run, the spread, the toughness at the ball. Hard and tough players refuse to let their team mate down and always work hard to ensure their team mate has an option running past him. SOFT LAZY SILVER SPOONERS stand on their heals and watch the world go by....look at the butterfly, look at the pretty butterfly....SOFT!

Should we give them skirts instead of shorts to wear until they can prove to the Melbourne members who have supported this club for a lifetime that they are men enough to wear the shorts again? Would they ever wear shorts again?

The players say they responded like they did against the Crows because they hate to be called SOFT but guess what - YOU ARE SOFT - the lot of you so get off your lazy SOFT arses and play like men you bloody bunch of skirts.

My only criticism of Bailey is that he is too nice - rip into these bunch of girls Bails. They are SOFT so harden them up and those that won't harden can F^CK right off!

I disagree with this post. Most of it is true of the performance we put up against West Coast but I don’t think the loss to the Roos warrants this type of post. I didn’t think we were that bad, I just think we really struggled as we rarely were getting first use of the ball. Our foot skills were probably a bit down as well and we missed some targets that we should have hit. I don’t however question the endeavour of our players in the game. We were always going to be up against it with a lot of our key players missing (most notably Jamar). Having said that a lot of credit needs to go the Kangaroos for their victory. They were the better team on the day and they got a well deserved win.

Also if what you are saying regarding Bailey is correct that he does have a good gameplan etc and it is not his fault and that it is that our players are soft that is the problem. It is surely some of Bailey’s responsibility to get the best out of the players each week. If he is not doing this then he must be looked at.

I like the passion but I don’t think your post is very constructive or accurate.

Your frustration is shared by many of us, but your use of the term silver-spooners is just silly. That is an inaccurate fallacy generated by rival teams to describe our supporters. Nobody ever accused the actual players of being silver-spooners. Why would you? They are drafted/recruited from the same place as every other team. We've got lots of problems to sort out, but it's nothing to do with being lazy upperclass snobs. We have a losing culture that needs to be turned around.

Why is it always the coach or the players? Why isn't both?

I'd be surprised if we didn't make at least 5 changes to the team this week, that is a lot of changes. Hopefully 1 is the captain, leadership shouldn't be a get out of jail free card, if your not performing you should get dropped like any other player on the list.

That goes for Davey too. I'd only have him in the team cos he's been better than Green.

Bailey has to accept responsibility for 4 years of disappointing performances, if anything he's had it too good for too long.

You are definitely entitled to your opinion Sledbomber but I watch every game we play and the one thing i am always looking for is the run and spread and whether the man with the ball is being given options to hand pass to players running past or kick to leads up the ground. I look for this because in my opinion a lack of run and spread has consistently been one of our main problems. To many players are always expecting someone else to provide options when they all should be looking to do that. We provided this in spades against the Crows and for the majority of the first quarter against the Roos but towards the end of the first quarter our run stopped - At one point I saw every single player standing flat footed when another Demon had the ball - they were looking around wondering who was going to lead. Frustrated - yes I bloody am!!

I am not saying that we should win every game but our players are professional athletes and there is absolutely no excuse for a lack of run.

The players and the coach come out and say they are going to be tough and then generally are that week but the following week they forget how they felt when they were being called SOFT the week before and they go back to their flat footed ways. I have posted on this problem in the past and quite frankly I am getting absolutely sick of it because over the last 30 years I have come to realise it is the way of the Demon and there simply has to be an internal culture issue within the club because our players are historically not know for their hardness and toughness.

Also I read the comment that our players responded to being called "SOFT" in the media by thrashing Adelaide so if calling our players SOFT is what it takes to get them to pull their heads out of their arses then the Melbourne Demons are SOFT! SOFT, SOFT and more bloody SOFT! They will be soft until they harden the f^ck up.

I agree with you and understand the historical background to the term 'silver spooners'. I used the term silver spooners in frustration and I withdraw my use of that word.... but I do not withdraw my use of the word SOFT because that it exactly what our players are.

I agree but the finger seems to always get pointed only at the coach. That seems unfair when he demands one thing out of them and they consistently deliver something else.

The players said that the win against the Crows would mean absolutely nothing if they couldn't back it up against the Roos and then...they didn't back up that effort.....I wish Sportsbet had put up odds of them not backing up the performance because I would have sold my house and gone the plunge...that's how SOFT and predictable our team is. I know they have it in them but its a matter of beating it into their skulls..they need to understand that the jumper is more than a pay packet...playing for our club requires a ferocious commitment and that they will be held accountable if they put up anything even slightly less than that.

I agree with you that the lack of run and spread is a key indicator to whether our players are putting in the hard yards and it is definitely something that angers me when I see them not running and tracking their opponents. I just think in this game it wasn’t as bad as it has been and you also have to factor in the that our rotations would have been effected by the injuries to Garland and Bail (having an adverse effect on our stamina levels).

I also understand your annoyance at us being able to respond for just one game (as we did against the Crows) and as we have done in the past only to slip back into bad habits the following week. This also annoys me but I stand by my comment that we had some genuine excuses this week and that our work rate wasn’t as bad as it has been.

There does need to be a change of culture but unfortunately that is something that takes time. We have had very few wins in the last few years and as a result we have developed a losing culture. It takes along time to restore the belief and confidence in the players and until that happens we will be a very inconsistent team.
