Hard not to sound biased here, but obviously the Hawthorn games come under the most scrutiny for myself. This may have already been discussed this week but i'm going to put my 2 cents worth in anyhow.

In the 8 games Hawthorn have played this year i have seen 3 of the softest reports leading to suspension that i have ever seen. Mcglynn & Burgoyne - both moving & committed to the contest at full pace - there is no way they couldve avoided those hits - neither looked intentional and both seemed to try and stop themselves from hitting the player dangerously - mcglynn was eyes on the footy - burgouyne just clipped mitchell.......and obviously Lewis' report in the NM game... the game has declined to another level this year in terms of hardness, to the point where there are barely any 'legal' body/body contests...i guess (and i'm serious) within 5 years the game will be reduced purely to 'touch football' - with a free kick awarded for any body contact...It makes me sad to see our once 'tough' and unique game come to this...especially with the penalties handed out when attempting to make a contest.........

the other problem is commentators and journos - they are the real ones ruining our game...raving on for 5 minutes after a contest about 'how it was reportable' - bringing it to the afl's attention immediately just so that they can be the ones who said it first - if these people didnt bring up issues that none of us want changed in our game, the AFL would never even think about it - same goes for these lame reports/suspensions.

bring back dermie, dipper, rhys-jones etc.....at least when they got suspended you knew they had earned it!

I reckon McGlynn deserved to be suspended. He didn't have eyes for the footy and I reckon it was unduly rough play. Doesn't he have some history/form as well? I think a few weeks back he came under video scrutiny for a match-day incident and I thought he was lucky to escape penalty (can't remember the exact incident however).

Burgoyne was stiff to go however, and I see Chocko Williams is very upset about it - he got quite emotional in an interview, and he's called for a complete overhaul of the tribunal. A bit over the top as usual.

where did you get that term from - that the hawks are undisciplined? the f----n ratbag media. of course.

No I got it from the dictionary after I saw Lewis and Crawford commit stupid dog acts on the footy field.

As for this game McGlynn deserved what he got.

Burgoyne probably shoud've gotten 1.

Contrary to what you obviously believe, not all of us need to be fed everything on a spoon by the media, and don't automatically believe everything we hear.

Your team is labelled undisciplined because it is. We don't need the media to point that out to us. If you were watching Hawthorn games without audio, and without reading any match reports, you would still easily see that Crawfords antics on the weekend were undisciplined at best, foolish and irresponsible at worst. The same goes for Lewis against North Melbourne.

Hawthorn are fortunate enough to have the depth to cover all these players who miss due to suspension, but it remains an issue they need to fix before finals time. If they had beaten North last year, they may have been without three key players in a winnable preliminary final. Hawthorn are undisciplined.

The McGlynn one looked very similar to the Ben Johnson one last year and Johnson got six ... McGlynn was building up to a suspension (was lucky a couple of weeks earlier when he ran straight into the back of someone who couldn't seen him coming) so i reckon he will cop it sweet

those are the new rules
all afl players have umpires come and explain it to them and they see lots of footage of what is allowed and what isnt
simple as that as really
dont blame the umpires commentators or even the tribunal...they are just doing their job

Choco's just passionate and pissed off coz burgs got rubbed out for 3, what he's standing for is right unless you wanna see the game become even more watered down, till it gets the point players wont commit 100% for the ball because their worried about bein reported.

Are you trying to say that they are not? I don't think you will find one Hawthorn supporter that doesn't think that many of the acts this season have been undisciplined.

I think you were right the first time. You do sound very biased. :thumbsu:

The media has played a part in using the term undisciplined when referring to the Hawks. The two reports that are constantly referred to as undiscipled were in fact were just plain dumb - Crawford and Lewis.

The Hawks have fronted the tribunal 5 times this year, the Cats 4 and the same for WCE, but what has not made the media headlines because your club is not winning games is that the Dons are playing extremely undisciplined football having appeared before the tribunal on SEVEN occasions.

I think the AFL have failed with the tribunal. We don't want to see people rubbed out every week. If someone cops a hit in front of the umpire and his natural reaction isn't to pay a free kick then for the life of me I have no idea how someone can cop weeks for it.

Yes, sometimes people do stupid things but in a contact sport you have to expect that at times someone will mistime a spoil or not execute it properly. Tribunal should be there for blatant strikes like Barry's KO punch or for deliberate or very crude actions which can cause serious harm.

The Lewis' suspension against us was soft as butter, mind you he was pretty stupid for doing it the game after coming back from a heft suspension but it was still soft. Pratt getting a week for trying to spoil a mark against a ruckman and trying to pull up to minimise impact when he realised he was too late for the contest are the kind of absurd suspensions that irritate me.

Then you have serial snipers who do things behind play who constantly get let off. If you wanted to enforce something it would be to cut out the snipers and just minimise on the reckless stuff with gee I don't know, how about a free kick or a 50m penalty.

AFL is just too trigger happy, maybe they are like meter maids and have to get their quota of blood.

Just to clear afew things up.

A team that is undefeated after 8 rounds is not undisciplined, quite the contrary they are undefeated because they are disciplined and stick to Team structures, plans, rules etc etc.

Just ask opposition coaches if they think the Hawks are undisciplined they may have a different view and one Nathan Buckley commented on radio after the Collingwood game that Hawthorn at the minute are probably the most disciplined team he has EVER seen, the way they keep to Team structures and every player knows exactly what is required of them and they execute that Team plan to a teeeeee

Isolated stupid brain fades are what they are, stupid isolated incidents.

Glad to be of assistance.

Oh I'm sorry I missed the part where he created a thread saying Essendon was being picked on with soft reports and that the acts done by Essendon players weren't undisciplined.

Typical BF idiot right here, oh well your teams done it more so well uh you uh can't be right. Think he'd be quite happy to say the discipline in those cases was poor, pity we can't say the same about you.

While the tribunal system is a worry overall, I wouldn't say Hawthorn has been overly hard done by this year.

The Campbell Brown NAB Cup suspension was laughable, to be sure, but McGlynn warranted a suspension (perhaps 2 weeks rather than 4, but he had to go).

While there was nothing to either of the Lewis & Crawford ones, they knew too well they'd get a week for indulging, so they shouldn't have done it.

Both Burgoyne and McGlyn's punishment were about right. Stokes got three in the NAB cup last year for a similar one to Burgoyne while Ben Johnson got 5 or so for one like McGlyn's.

Jordan Lewis's gut punch was worse than Stokes a couple of weeks ago and Stokes got a week. I can't for the life of me understand how Fev got off for his though.

I thought Osborne was a little lucky earlier this year too. Clarkeson said words to the effect that he wants his players to play as close to the line as possible and accepts that by doing that occasionally his players will get rubbed out. hardly a media beat up.

Hawthorn are Undisciplined = a term first coined by the media. If you use this term, you are using an opinion introduced by the media and have jumped on their bandwagon.....think for yourselves.

Lots of suspensions nowdays would of been a free kick/50 m penilty back when the new tribunal wasnt around.

Ild rather my team play with the killer instinct and the "undisiplined" way we do, because its a vast improvement of the team which was scared of leather back in 03/04

Dont lie, you would love your team to be as ruthless and hard at it as hawthorn, how the game SHOULD be played, and WAS played before the afl ruled body contact should be a thing of the past.

I wonder how a rebel league would go with harder rules once the AFL becomes totally soft?? Something to think about...

I truly believe that the Melbourne Storm has gained ground in Melbourne because the AFL has become so basketball like and contact is being minimised week by week. NRL can be boring at times but boy do those blokes slam into each other

SO if people actually want to see a real physical contest in Melbourne on the weekend they only have the Storm as an option at the moment. Even lower grades of aussie rules are subject to the soft interpretations
