Solar Energy breakthroughs

I'll 'fess-up' here and tell ya'all that I have quals' in Electrotechnology and believe me once we find the key to greater panel efficiency and application adaption Solar Power will leave all the other renewables in its dust. We are on the brink and the UNI of NSW is a world leader in Solar Energy research. Oh.. how I would love to convince Rudd to put half of the 'Bail-out' money we are about to piss up against the wall into this industry.

Chemists have created a Solar Panel made up of materials that capture energy from the full solar spectrum.

Other technologies offer 'spray on', flexible Solar Energy harvesters:

The links don't seem to be working for me?

What about windows being used in the future to capture solar energy? I heard somebody say this technology was being developed.

* Edit * The links are working now.

There is a company in Oz that has created a substance that goes into steel and lets it convert solar to energy via an enhanced version of what plants do.

One of the major problems with current solar energy is that when they are junked they produce more harmful waste then just about any other form of energy.

Do agree we should pump more money into this and whilst we are at why not give the car industry money, not to produce over-priced poroly made cars but to convert all of them to gas and also look at better hybrids.

All this s**t about carbon credits when we do nothing to address the real issues.

quote]That and the imbedded energy used in their production means long carbon payback periods, not to mention cost payback. The 'spray-on' technology will overcome this. And let's hope that as they get closer to mimicking photosynthesis the chemicals used will biodegrade safely over time as Plants do.

Yes the same part of the spectrum that penetrates glass and heats your home excites electrons in this product killing 'two birds with the one stone' - apologies to Animal lovers.

Mark my words the country that reaches the holy grail of Solar Spectrum efficiency first will become an economic powerhouse and as I said earlier the UNI of NSW is currently amongst the pack leaders. As for the cars once we have plentiful electrical energy supplies the petrol engine will become a relic, at least for short runs. The issue with cars is another bug-bear for renewables and that is energy storage. The batteries we have now just don't cut the mustard yet but are improving exponentially.

I know it sounds awful but I can't wait to see those Arab bastards put back in their box. No one will give a stuff about them then.

Are the Arab bastards you are referring to the ones who are living in solid gold floating palaces, or the ones being oppressed by them?

Or are they all the same to you?

BTW, on a different note, Australia isn't much different to them. While they dig stuff out and then spend all the proceeds on 7 star underwater hotels and cricket fields on top of the tallest tower in the world, we buy plasmas and BMW's.

They concentrate their wealth, we share it more evenly. But ultimately neither of us are investing for the time when there is no more stuff to dig up.

Cubans just discovered an oil field that matches the total of US started drilling today

Sooner we dont need it the better
