Paton looks like a ressie's player to me.

Give him a few weeks (we'll be forced to until Cunningham's back anyway) I reckon. He got better as the game went on and he settled a bit.

Grundy is a very average footballer now

McCarrtin forward will never work. He’s too unathletic and his skills are poor. Not to mention it nullifies blakey

Amartey was very good.

Florent should be absolutely disgusted with himself . Pissing down rain and he kicks across goal to 25m out straight in front and turns it over.

Chad was great

The rest was pure dogshit.

What disappoints me most, is that we had to endure an entire off season (and gf day) being ridiculed , and taken the piss out of ….and we come out like nothing ever happened. Not one player looked like they had a point to prove, not one player looked hungry or ferocious. All in all pretty weak, which is starting to become a trend at this club

I think the two main issues are Rampe and Grundy.

If Grundy plays well we probably pinch a win, If Rampe is himself from 12 months ago even he steadies the defence and florent roberts feed off that.

JJ and Wicks the positives.

Yep the two clear standouts for me.

Wicks looked as if he's been a defender his whole career and give Jordon a task and he'll perform it.
Jordon clamped Day and also got the second most clearances for us.

Melican solid, Blakey was handy, given his 'dual role' as KPD and main rebounder, Chad and Heeney drifted out of the game and Hanily should start next week.

He is an attacking non-defender. Always has been. Like Campbell and Lloyd I don't want him in the back six.
Wicks on the other hand just WOW! 74 fantasy while keeping Watson to 11. Four smashing tackles including a HTB. Definitely one of our best.

Florent has played almost 200 games, it shouldn't matter where he plays. He shouldn't play like a second year player anymore.

We have so many holes in our side.

Was extremely jealous Hawthorn went out and recruited 2 great KPD's in Barrass and Battle, whilst we have Rampe who looks well past his best, Paton who is scraps from St Kilda, and Melican who is serviceable at best.

Always been a subscriber to the theory "Defence wins the game", I just don't see any of ours being able to win games when the tide is against us.

Wicks and McCartin role changes looks good. Warner, Blakey, and Heeney look like continuing their great form from last season. Roberts looks on the way up.

Sheldrick, not good enough. Corey Warner and Hanily showed some ok signs.

Onto next week I suppose.

Not commenting on the performance forward. But in isolation the defence missed his presence

McCartin looks good as a forward but I just think we can’t afford to have him there unless he’s adamant he doesn’t want to play down back (I don’t know if that’s part of why he’s moved or if it’s just covering for injuries?). We don’t really need him forward - there are other options at least - but our KPD stocks are just so thin.

Pretty ironic the club went out of its way to publicise the back to back time trials…and hawks looked miles fitter. It felt like they beat us to every loose ball and we’re getting numbers to every contest

Well said. Injury, terrible coach last year. Deserves a few weeks. Love his crunching tackles. He’ll get better for sure with some guns around him - chemistry takes a bit of time
