Do you place these periods in your post to compensate for your shortcomings or something?..................
.
.............Anyway, where exactly did I say he had come good and would be retained now??? If you could point out where I said that I would be grateful..............

Can I help it if I stutter .......don't disrespect those who are challenged ;)

Firstly one game does not define a career .........and you'll learn come end of year how cut throat the AFL exactly is.

AKA Jason Torney !!!!

Draw a form line over the last few years, for the Games Jericho has actually played. Its actually pretty impressive. This has not been a one off game. Jericho has improved, yet there are still people on this board fighting tooth and nail to deny it.

BTW, the club isnt going to cut him now that hes shown something, after keeping him for years when he hadnt.

One game does not define a career, but it should be enough to give him another opportunity.

If it he had waited until the last game of the season before pulling this one out then it wouldn't be enough to save him.

However, with half the season still left to run, it WILL be enough to get him another game next week (particularly with Burton still MIA through suspension). IF he can back it up with more good performances, then he will be reassessed. Big IF.

I don't know, there was something changed in him at the end of the game, the way he sang the club song with such enthusiasm, honestly put some of our other players to shame.

Out of the 3 games he's played this season (can't count the Port game as he was pole-axed early in the 2nd quarter) and from limited game time when he has played, in each of those games he is averaging 15 disposals, 7.3 marks, 3 goals 1 behind per game. What else does he have to do? Can't be that big an IF in my opinion. Certainly he needs to maintain the form that he seems to have found this year, and the hunger that is driving him, but it's not as big an IF as you (and his usual detractors) are saying it is.

In comparison (for interest sake) Scotty Welsh has played all 11 games (and no doubt played the majority of EVERY game) and he is averaging 12 disposals, 5.9 marks and 1.9 goals 1.4 behinds per game.

He was a top 400m runner IIRC.

That explains his running strength; not explosive but good sustained loping pace, possibly like Birdman.

I was behind the goal in the 3rd quarter on Saturday - how exciting was that pass from Reilly to Jezza? Not many other Crows could have nailed the pass, and Jezza took it cleanly, just steadied over over a few loping strides and slotted it straight through from 45. Game turner!

Yes it is.

Jericho said himself after the game that Craig had demanded increased attack on the ball and more defensive pressure from him. He felt that he had improved in these areas in this game.

In his after match comments Craig made exactly the same points.

Forget all that stuff you've said up there jen. It's not a question of ability.

Jericho's career with the Crows will live or die on those two points that Jericho mentioned that he had been challenged on.

He knows what he has to do - now it's up to him.

Balls in his court. He has all the tricks in the book, just a question of how badly he wants it.

I hope he remembers two things: the feeling he had after the game on the weekend and the feeling he had after the Micky Mouse cup GF.

One thing we've seen Craigy do that has turned fringe players into starting 18 player has been to outline very specifically what players need to do to get a game. Apparently not just Craig but Alan Stewart and Peter Jonas are very good at it too. Chris Knights went through it and flourished. Look at Scott Stevens, where he's gone to from oblivion.

Jericho now has his chance to do the same thing. He sounds like he's mature enough (if not before then at least now) to put it into practice.

What impressed me about Jericho this weekend, was that, even if they were arsey, his goals came when it mattered.

It's all well and good to claim his statistics show he should be in the side, but it's also apparent to most of us that the majority of his goals have come at a time when they didn't matter.

I guess you make your own luck to a point. I suppose he is due for a bit of luck as well.

I think the important part will be following it up with another good match, he needs to kick another
3-5 goals this week to even have a chance to be retained.

People are being a little unfair writing his goals off as arsey. Sure, there were the two soccer goals, which always have some serious luck involved, but why ignore the other three goals, a well executed lead, mark and conversion, a goal from 50 on the run, and a set shot from a great contested mark? They were products of good football, not just luck.

As far as the majority of his goals coming when they dont matter, i dont know how many career goals hes kicked, but i do know this is the second time in about 5 games hes played hes booted potentially match winning goals.

I should've put 'a couple were arsey,' - but I didn't mean arsey as a way of putting them down - while they were arsey, he still had to position himself correctly and put himself in a spot where he could make them happen.

I definitely didn't intend to ignore the other 3, which were definitely 'good football' goals.

Crow-mo, based on this forum, it's a rather substantial group.

One he fell over and nearly missed the unmissable.

One he was on his lonesome in the forward 50 when his man had run forward and luckily for him Richmond turned it over. He missed a sitter in the first half in the same way.

Three good goals.

However he also missed other opportunities to take marks.

His game was ok as anyone who kicks five has done well but it hasn't gone very far to expelling the doubts that many of us have about him.

As always though I hope he continues to improve and plays well on Saturday night.

IMO Jericho hasnt been as bad as perhaps some have rated (or not rated) him.

I think that at this stage he would be retained on the list at the end of the year due to his talent and ability to play in several positions and he has shown that he can play without necessarily being in our best 22.

As Macca said, providing that he continues to display some attack at the ball and defensive pressure then he should retain his spot. The ball is in his court. I suggest that he would be a good depth player on our list.

Whilst he may or may not be retained at the end of the year, he certainly won't be if he's not in our best 22.

Jericho is currently in his 6th year on our list. In that time he has played just 30 AFL games.

The club have openly stated that this is a make or break year for him. If he doesn't "make it", then he WILL be out the door at the end of the year.

Which begs the question - what does "make it" mean? What is the pass mark against which he is to be judged?

Surely, the answer to this question is that he must establish himself in our best 22 by the end of the year. It really is that simple. We can't afford to hang onto players for 7+ years if they are only going to be bit players who can't hold down a consistent place in the team. If he's not in the best 22 by the end of the year then he WILL be gone. If he IS in the best 22, then he will be retained.

What his performance did last week was to buy him some time, giving him an opportunity to cement a place in the best 22. For his sake, I sincerely hope that he is able to string some consistent performances together to prove that he belongs in the side. He's had some hard luck over the last couple of years, generally doing well when selected (eg 3 goals vs Carlton last year, dropped for Roo's return). This time he's done so well that they CAN'T drop him this week and the player he's replacing still has one more week on the sidelines anyway. Let's hope he can make the most of his opportunities.

QUOTE]

I beg to differ with this and with others that reckon his two soccer goals were flukes of some kind. To me it looked like his athleticism gave him the opportunities. Everything's in the eye of the beholder I guess.

Oh come on it was hillarious. He got to the ball tried to kick it, fell over and his foot hit the ball as it slipped across the ground.:D

Some things are fact though. Are you saying that he tried to kick the goal in the manner in which he did?

It was an opportunistic goal.... and he made it happen by reading the play. The first one was arsey, no doubt about it, but if he hadn't been in the right position it wouldn't have happened. The second soccer one was instinctive and not without a touch of class.
