Some tidbits

I think what it means is that all the talls - Waite, Kreuzer, Hampson, Warnock - will rotate through the forward line with Hendo as the "rock"

What role does the club have in mind for Carlos next year?

I think that he was starting to show that he could be a good lead up CHF before our former FF smashed into him and caused more injury problems.

Also, do you know what the status is on the clots in his legs?

Walker is also suspect on the kicking front but def worth first shot if we are considering Robertson!
His field kicking is not the best, but in front of goal he is very good. He kicks straight, field his problem is he can not judge the distance of the player he is kicking to. Thats why it just goes over there head or goes to there feet.

I don't think Mitch is a 'marking target' as such, but he can take a pretty good one when he's going. He took some good ones against Richmond as well, from memory. And he shows no fear. But I don't expect him to be a 'marking target' yet.
Robbo will be better when he has a bit more confidence in his marking: there are times he doesn't seem to have the extension in the arms you see with, say, Fisher. But that could be different in a year or 2.
I expect Robbo to spend more time in the midfield in 2010. That was his job in Tassie.
Is Steve Johnson a marking target? ;)

Robinson doesn't need to mark like Riewoldt to be a forward.

Robinson could be a similar player to O'Keefe on the half forward flank if he improves his marking. Has no problem finding the ball, so he would add hardness and accountability to our forwardline.

I loved his play against Collingwood where he caught Heath Shaw napping, dispossessed the faux ranga and slammed it through from 40 odd metres out.
I'll be interested to see if Andrew Walker can be developed into a 'marking target'. He has the spring that could do anything, but he rarely marks the ball when going for a 'speccie'. Over his head, when he keeps his feet, he is pretty good.
Release Walker.

Terrific mark over Harding by Hampson in that video, but his arms weren't fully stretched.

Hampson will be a handful if he starts marking the ball at full stretch like Fisher.

I think the marks will eventually start sticking after the improvement O'hAilpin demonstrated with his marking this year. SH looked clean in his debut game when he took that big mark on the lead on White and converted. We saw a bit more of that this year after Hampson's mark over Maxwell this year.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01Lyng1kgYs

Hampson had good position 30 out from goal, but he used his hands and not his body to fend off his opponent man, so he spilt the mark at the last second.

He's still very raw to say the least.

Hampson's positioning and holding his feet under the pack to create Yarran's first goal was better than his efforts against the Pies.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ANe4vSZi0C4

Hampson had clean hands against the Crows after he won the hitout and ran forward like Kreuzer to mark inside 50.

And converted his chance.

It can take a bit longer for athletes like Hampson and O'hAilpin to improve their marking if they're not from a basketball ground. They're not used to jumping for the ball and marking it at the highest point. Tippett, Kreuzer, Goldstein, White, Brogan and Leuenberger played basketball before taking up football.

Sellar played volleyball.

Hampson played soccer and was a striker.

Hampson's effort in the final to receive a handpass from Simpson and side step Sheldon after waving the ball over his head was Kouta like.

Plus his run down the wing to hit Fevola in our away win.

Anyone who wants to trade Hampson to GC17 for another draft pick is insane.

I think he will get there like Koutoufides and become a star.

There is no doubt that the poor quality of this year's draft has saved a couple - remember, for everyone you chop, you have to pick one up, and if the view is that there is no quality left at 59 or 75, why chop Fisher and pay out a contract?

We should have planned for that in advance. Cloke is the one I want gone. If you have someone on your list that even remotely resembles what you are after then there is less haste in finding someone more appropriate. Why cry foul on quality when you had little intention of making good during richer times? It screams of evasiveness.

You want to bring in Temel and dump Cloke to replace like with like. :o :D

Didn't believe him the first time he said best available?

That's the conundrum some around here don't seem to acknowledge, hence my previous post. You don't just come to a conclusion when it begins to hurt and simply shrug it of as unfortunate, you plan ahead or prepare for some tough decisions. There might be a smoky at pick 43 but I wouldn't 'plan' on it.

I can tell you now, Temel is not Cloke. It is arguable who is the better athlete but Temal looks to have that bit of forward-line presence about him that Cloke just doesn't have, and he's a better kick.

I agree he's more like Adrian Bonnadio who plays for Port Melbourne.

Paf prefers the devil you don't know....then prays like hell he turns into an angel :)

oh for the love of god with the mixed metaphors :o

Agree but half of his kicks will be inside 50 kicks where you need perfect weight and speed to hit the target. When he kicks it straight to the opposition player and they counter attack over-running our 3 defenders that are left, we will all groan a little!

But still, given what is in our list, he is still the best first option!

Did Walker kick it straight to the opposition against the Lions last year?

Walker had two ripping kicks that set up goals to Cloke and Murphy to help us win that game.

Both off one step.

Walker has a stronger leg than Simpson who is a fan favourite and only usually his right foot for balance.

Walker generally minds his man better than Simpson...

He was BOG against Burgoyne two years ago for his shut down game.

When has Kade beat his man and set up play?

Yet they chose to put Walker up for trade because of his game on Rich who is a gun.

Tough call after he missed most of this year and the previous year with injury.

When responding to someone's post it is a fail to quote one game or one kick that was good. Walker over his history has been shown up on his kicking. He has put up enough high balls for us to say his kicking is not elite, and at best very average!

Why are you quoting Kade...i havent. I agree with you totally on Kade...a good player if they leave him alone and Carlton are running riot. Against a quality opponent, quite often gets towelled! All in all, Kade is def in our best 22 but I wouldnt rate him a feature!

Contrary to my earlier post, told now that Russell Robertson is "more likely than not" - interesting. As players get delisted the thinking keeps changing.

Also a little possibility that Chris Johnson may be moved to the rookie list

Fantastic to hear! :thumbsu:

It's no secret that I'm hugely in favour of getting Robbo to the club and it would be fantastic for us if it eventuated IMO.

What?

How is that possible?

If we pick up Robbo I'll fair dinkum spew up.

Use this ..we are trying to keep this place clean during the off season ..hence we don't encourage colonwood, bummer, or tigers supporters in here.

I mentioned another player because the match committee wanted to trade Walker after the final, yet didn't put heat on other players who didn't work hard both ways.

Walker is a good player too, yet for some reason other Carlton supporters ignores the weaknesses of other players and wear rose coloured glasses.

Fevola is the perfect example of this after all the fan boys and fan girls started the Save Fevola group. :o

Walker's value to the team extends beyond his kicking being a weakness.

I would never label Walker as a downhill skier.

A huge talent who has been crueled by injury as he was about to take off as a player.
