Hi guys, its that time of the year again and im still getting rather bored at work on the weekends, especially early sunday mornings.... why cant i sleep in like everyone else!!!!!!
Anyways, i started writing down some "in theory" trades that could benefit both teams.
Lonie --> Port, Salopek --> Coll.
Word has it that Steve wants to return from Victoria, and i also remember reading that he was a collingwood supporter while growing up... (confirmation would be handy). Also, Port were interested in Lonie a couple of years back when we were after Stevens, and could be interested in him now. While the deal does seem a little lopsided in our favour, i really cant see Port doing another Stevens on us again... surely they learnt the first time.
Cole + 3rd Round Pick--> Essendon, 1st Round Pick --> Collingwood.
The Dons were after Cole as a F/S pick when he was in the draft and has been unable to make it back into the side this year, will still have trade value due to the signs he has shown so far. The 3rd round pick will have to be thrown in to push the deal over the line, even though this years draft is labelled as "weak".
Obree --> Sydney, 1st Round Pick --> Collingwood.
Sydney were interesed in Obree last year even though he had a shocker, he has played a more consistant brand of footy this year, is entering his prime as a seasoned AFL player and fills a void that will be left in sydneys line up over the next year or 2. Williams and Maxfield will be hanging up the boots soon, and there isnt really anyone else to pick up the slack. Collingwood need the pick to get some speed into the side and possibly pick up a good young tall to move down back in 2 years or so.
The deals above are win/win imo, we gain some good draft picks for players that we have in abundance, and gain a silky skilled player who isnt affraid to put his head over the ball.
End Result:
Gain: Salopek, picks 7,17
Lose: Lonie, Cole, Pick 37.
Who id like to see us pick up in the draft.
Pick 2: Either Murphy or Ellis, whoever Carlton dont pick.
Pick 5: Swallow
Pick 7: Varcoe.
Pick 17: McKinley.
Pick 21: Grant.
Pick 53: Sam Isles.
