MIGHTY MAGPIES
Hi guys, its that time of the year again and im still getting rather bored at work on the weekends, especially early sunday mornings.... why cant i sleep in like everyone else!!!!!!

Anyways, i started writing down some "in theory" trades that could benefit both teams.

Lonie --> Port, Salopek --> Coll.

Word has it that Steve wants to return from Victoria, and i also remember reading that he was a collingwood supporter while growing up... (confirmation would be handy). Also, Port were interested in Lonie a couple of years back when we were after Stevens, and could be interested in him now. While the deal does seem a little lopsided in our favour, i really cant see Port doing another Stevens on us again... surely they learnt the first time.

Cole + 3rd Round Pick--> Essendon, 1st Round Pick --> Collingwood.

The Dons were after Cole as a F/S pick when he was in the draft and has been unable to make it back into the side this year, will still have trade value due to the signs he has shown so far. The 3rd round pick will have to be thrown in to push the deal over the line, even though this years draft is labelled as "weak".

Obree --> Sydney, 1st Round Pick --> Collingwood.

Sydney were interesed in Obree last year even though he had a shocker, he has played a more consistant brand of footy this year, is entering his prime as a seasoned AFL player and fills a void that will be left in sydneys line up over the next year or 2. Williams and Maxfield will be hanging up the boots soon, and there isnt really anyone else to pick up the slack. Collingwood need the pick to get some speed into the side and possibly pick up a good young tall to move down back in 2 years or so.

The deals above are win/win imo, we gain some good draft picks for players that we have in abundance, and gain a silky skilled player who isnt affraid to put his head over the ball.

End Result:

Gain: Salopek, picks 7,17

Lose: Lonie, Cole, Pick 37.

Who id like to see us pick up in the draft.

Pick 2: Either Murphy or Ellis, whoever Carlton dont pick.
Pick 5: Swallow
Pick 7: Varcoe.
Pick 17: McKinley.
Pick 21: Grant.
Pick 53: Sam Isles.

I think your dreaming. Obree for a 1st rounder? Cole and a 3rd rounder for pick 7 no way the only deal tthat would be remotely close would be Lonie for Salope and aven that wouldnt go through.

Obree fills a need for Sydney who need to replenish their hard bodied midfielders while they still have barry hall up forward. While your mob are interested in Cole they will take a bite while he is on offer, make no mistake.

Hilarious

Do you really think after all these years , The bombers finally get thier hands on a decent draft pick and they are going to give it up for something like that ?

And O`Bree for a first rounder ....LMAO

Even if we want Cole im sure Sheedy's not stupid enough to trade pick 7.

The text in bold on its own should indicate to you why this trade will not happen. Fact is that while fit, Lonie is now struggling to make your side while you are struggling with injuries, when fit Salopek plays for the Power. If you really want Salopek - silver come up witha deal that is not "Lopsided in your favour".

Yes we did try and get Lonie a few years ago, and you rejected it, as you did for Didak, as you did for Presti, and as you did for Richie Cole. However Lonie would not currently have the trade value that he did back then.

PS - Salopek was a St Kilda supporter while growing up.

I agree with all of that. And even if Port wanted to do the deal, the would definately want a pick from us - 5 or 21.

Salopek was a pretty high draft pick a few years ago. How is he progressing Malibu? I beleive he has injury issues.

must be april 1st, your kidding arent you?

richard cole for pick 7????

21 for Salopek is worth considering. No way you'd throw a 2 or 5 at Port though, not for an unproven injury prone underperforming player.

However if you trade a pick away for a player, that means its another existing player on your list you are stuck with. Our main objective should be getting rid of what we've got, and tradfing away draft picks doesnt allow you to delist players at the rate you need.

Maybe BJ in a straight swap, or Cole and a fourth rounder, or Lonie and a fourth rounder for Salopek?

Salopek was a pretty high draft pick a few years ago. How is he progressing Malibu? I beleive he has injury issues.

Suffered this year due to a knee injury he copped in the Whizzer cup, probably cost him the best part of 3 months, came back through the SANFL and has now forced his way back into the top team. Injury free he is class, potential issue with his pace. Last year was similar, copped glandular fever mid season and was out for the remainder of the year. In honesty his injury issues probably mean hes not worth picks 3 or 5, probably still worth the 6 - 10 area depending on draft strength... on the upside I believe hes also still only nineteen (he was drafted quite young) and has shown that hes got what it takes to play the level - so that element of risk is gone.

With Adam Thompson developing, we could live without him if forced to, but would not part with him without fair compensation.... With the general age of the list I would hope we would only be interested in young player or picks.... a

Apparently you have some kid "Straughnie" or something that has what it takes, and hes open to a move to Alberton ? :)

Thread should be titled "What i'd love to get for (Player X)"

More like "our Willy players are worth more than your 2nd year players who aren't yet guns, who would clearly like to leave your team and join the gun team that finished 15th."

P.S. The dissapointment of this season will wear off soon and I'll start to be more positive.

Ahh, get a grip guys. You guys overrate your players and their trade value waaaaayyy too much. Richie Cole and third rd pick for pick 7? Richie Cole might get a second round pick if youre very very lucky but certainly not an early one. The man can't get a game for the second bottom team, what does that say? And Lonie for Salopek, fair enough Salopek hasn't set the world on fire as yet but there's no way Port would go for that.

First it was Kepler Bradley for Richard Cole and now its pick 7 for Cole and a 3rd rounder.

Neither is going to happen.

The only way is a straight swap - ie Cole for Bolton or if you want to be realistic.

Cole and pick 37 for Essendon's pick 23
