Are we being too conservative with our injuries this year??
i.e: leaving players on the injury list for a week or two too long.
Could Fasolo have played seniors this week??
Same with Reid?
Is our cautious approach actually hindering us?

We are playing to many kids and have been all year. Injuries have forced our hand but it's killed us. There is no zip in the step of some players which was there first part of the year. Having frost and keffee play as key backs and Langdon play big roles has made it hard. They have done well but it's caught up with them. Good for the future but pain for us now.

Spot on. Be nice to have the handful of senior players that have been injured, up and running and relieving some of the kids but that's not possible so we have to wear some pain while they get some more experience and the senior players get back to fitness hopefully.
Bit more pain to come as we blood some quality from the past few seasons drafts into the side to replace the ageing and ordinarily skilled ones in there.

I'm pretty confident about what's to come in the next few years but unfortunately that's life.

Yeah it might be time I give in and realise we need a proper coach.
Yep, join the growing consensus. Hope we don't have to wait till year 5 to say he's a dud. he has systematically pulled apart a successful team and after 3 years the game plan has gone, skill level gone, passion gone, and our young guys are not coming through or coached like they should.

Nobody should have fallen for the top 4 talk. It was never on the cards and I'm not being revisionist either. Most of us would have been uneasy because of the way we were playing but still winning. For me, alarm bells we ringing when Carlton kicked 8 in the last quarter and we couldn't put Richmond away. Add giving Essendon a 7 goal start on Anzac Day and you have the makings of a losing streak later on.
Bucks has no choice. He brings in players performing at VFL level and cuts the crap about four quarter efforts there before they are even considered. Goes for Eade as well.

I understand we have injuries(like every other club) but that doesn't excuse us of having a complete lack of motivation, desire and passion week in,week out

Agree, I could be more tolerant if we had a crack each week, but our blokes have no passion. I watch Bucks in the coaches box. He doesn't seemed all that fussed when we are getting smacked. Surely the a desire to win at all costs has to come from the coaches. Perhaps we have a bunch of coaches who are professionals working for a pay packet, and not with the raw desire to win a premiership.

Funnily enough, I have no issue with the kids coming through. I still hold to the fact that I think he's recruited good kids.

It's what he's doing with the senior players that there's clearly a disconnect happening.

- Swan has dropped off a cliff
- Ball looks very slow and not winning the ball anymore
- Sidebottom looks like an average player who just wins a lot of the ball
- Beams has dropped off bit by bit each year since Bucks took over
- Cloke has shit his pants ever since the Footy Show revealed his "secret"
- Davoren was clearly a bad choice as a fitness person
- Toovey has gone backwards as hell
- Blair is just....I don't even know
- Goldsack seems to have lost his spark since the media started talking about him

I mean, outside Pendlebury, it's only the kids that seem to be ok. Not stellar, just ok.

- Beams had his best ever year in 2012 under Bucks.. won the Copeland 2012 and last year he hardly played because of injury. This year he is going well just not at the elite level he was in 2012.
- Swan and ball are just nearing the end as happens to footballers their age.
- Sidey is playing some terrific football for us and is much better than just an average player. He is very important for us and would walk into any other teams starting 22.
- Goldsack is what Goldsack is, has been, and will be. Sometime he can be good... mostly not though. His best year was 2012.. so far this is his second best year and he's mostly been good to ok.
- I think Lumumba and Young are going reasonably well this year actually... but they are whipping boys. Young certainly has his moments.
- Maxy has had a very good year, as has Caff and Pendles
- Jesse White, Cloke, Blair, Williams, Adams, Dwyer, JT, Toovey and Grundy have been very disappointing...
- Reid, Brown, Sinclair injured
Frost, Witts, Elliot, Langdon have been the standout young guys.
Fasolo, Kennedy, Keefe, Martin have been dicked around by some poor selection... they are 4 good players who should be in the team developing into the better than average players I think they can become.
Freeman, Karnezis, Sharenberg, Oxley, Broomhead... disappointing they have made no impact to now (regardless of reason).

We need to recruit some successful coaches, etc. from outside the club at the end of the year.

Bucks does some good things and then he does some terrible things. Why on earth was Keeffe dropped? He hasn't been great but we have no other options because of injury. Maxwell has never been, nor will he ever be, a key position defender. It was a decision that reeked of inexperience. Bomber must of just laughed to himself when he sent Carlisle forward.

I can handle this as Bucks is still learning his craft (though he is getting on now), but wtf were any of the other coaches doing when they didn't speak up? Rocket must be an idiot.

We need a change of leadership in the box. If not the head coach, we should at least have someone that can speak up to Bucks and stop stupid decisions like e ones today. Not to mention he Jarryd Blair selection debacle.

Tell you what. Does realise how spoiled we've been for the past 8 years. People put about the idea that premierships are the only measure of success. In one narrow sense, that's correct, but mostly it's bollocks.

We've had 12 years, bar two in 04—05 of being a bloody good team that was right in the mix. Of going to the footy and most weeks either expecting to win or at least thinking we were a real chance. Of having opposition supporters hate us, but also either grudgingly respect our team or grasp at straws to downplay our quality.

One flag out of that period was in a sense maybe underachieving. We might have snagged one in 2003 if Rocco had played, and in 2011 we tapered off a touch at the wrong end of the year. But that is in one sense a rich man complaining about the coin tosses that went against him, ignoring he could be so much worse off.

We haven't been a poor team since 2004-05, and the last month has been a rude shock as to what that feels like.

No team has a lock on being a top of field unit forever. Good administration and planning sure helps, but more people get it wrong than right.

I hope we're able to reverse this and make some good changes at the end of the year, because a few years of this will make us realise maybe how much we've taken for granted in the past few years.

SS...what are your thoughts on this one mate?
I'll give an analysis afterwards
Alright, as promised, I'll give it a shot.

What is going wrong?

We are just not playing with any passion or confidence at the moment. The minute something goes against us or we stuff up everybody drops their heads and we get scored against. Early on today it was clear we just weren't switched on. Players were flat-footed and not manning up their opponents, Pendles of all people was missing sitters in front of goal and were just were making dumb decisions.

In fairness I thought a lot of things fell Essendon's way. When a team kicks 15.1 at one point, that is sheer good luck IMO. Shots from the boundary evaded players and rolled through, dodgy frees were given in front of goal and a lot of times the ball bounced their way when it shouldn't have. You make your own luck I suppose but it was one of those days where we couldn't take a trick.

The biggest thing I noticed is we are crying out for some flipping forwards. Who played in the forward line today? Cloke was pretty much the only player who spent a good chunk of time there. White was in the ruck a fair bit, and Goldsack and Blair did disappearing acts and provided us NOTHING offensively - or defensively for that matter.

I sincerely hope we bring back Reid, Fasolo and Elliott for the Adelaide game because without them we are absolutely no chance of kicking any goals.

Skills. That's what went wrong. No matter how hard you work you're going to look silly when your team mates just kick it straight to the opposition.

So, dropping off bit by bit each year manifests itself in your 2 best years of AFL and 1 where you couldn't play for most of it because of injury?

2 best years in an average side can be deceiving in all fairness.

Nothing to do with 'want' or 'passion' this has been on the cards for a long time.
When we get opened up we really get opened up, we are inconsistent to the point of ridiculous because Buckley has a limited side skill wise, trying to play a game style built for highly highly skilled individual players.
We do not have the players to pull off a Geelong style ball movement with Hawthorn like zone defence. It will fall down, it has fallen down, and will continue to fall down whether you like it or not.

The mass evidence is pressure, these limitations mean any really decent pressure put on causes the main factors to all fall apart, the teams that sit off us, we beat, the teams that give it to us man on man we go to water.

Never used to happen under Mick, not calling for the past to come back but just stating a cold hard fact, Collingwood are easier to score against now more than any other time in the past 10 years.

in 2010 and 2011, the team had a rule that they would not allow a team to score 2 consecutive goals against them. That's how competitive they were. Today the Bombers kicked goal after goal, and not even a whimper, no pressure. it's the coach that sets those high standards, and gets the team to buy in.

Defense wins premiership. We are playing a second string defense at the moment due to injuries. Defense doesn't start in the oppositions forward 50, it starts in our goal square. We had a coach that instilled that mantra into the players. We are now falling over completely in this area. Even if we are trying to play an attack focused game style, we have to make sure the opposition don't have that many scoring opportunities as they are now.

We're missing Heaters run out of the back line, and we haven't really got anyone capable of doing that. Young's kicking is great for distance, but accuracy is not good enough. A lot of our disposals are ineffective, and these create turnovers, which the opposition is converting into goals. The worst thing is when things go against us, we don't have a positive attitude to get over it and get on with it. Even Pendles is guilty in that regard. Nowhere near the worst offender, but still guilty.
