I have waaaaay to much time on my hands
'Twas the night after a tiges win, and a roar of eat em alive,
Could be heard, coz our man Richo had kicked five.
Though in the final quarter they played like they didn't care,
Because hopes of a finals berth were never there;
It was the season that every player dreads,
A vision of a win danced in their heads;
With the season gone I had put on my cap,
And just settled down for a long summer's nap,
When out at the MCG there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my seat to see what was the matter.
Away to the lead they flew in flash,
You could tell Richo wanted to keep his cash.
A glimmer of hope began to glow
It angered the Carlton team who will remain below,
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
A game to enjoy and one to cheer,
They delivered the ball inaccurate but quick,
Surely this must be some kind of trick.
More determined than ever out they came,
So I yelled and I cheered and called them by name;
"Go Richo, Go Coughlan, Go Otto, Go Staff!
On Zantuck, On Kingy, On Dunc, On Chaff!
And not to forget Rodan, Andy and Hall!
Now kick a goal, kick a goal, kick a goal all."
With a forward line that could surely fly,
The big man in Richo took to the sky,
So over the top of the packs he flew,
And he made sure that they went through.
And then, in a twinkling, The unthinkable took place
Melbourne did not want to be out of the finals race
As I put down my flag, and was turning around,
Out charged Melbourne in a single bound.
They passed the ball from foot to foot,
No doubt about where that ball would be put;
You could tell they were going to have a real crack,
Just what we need Neitz to split open the pack.
Their game how it changed they weren't lying down!
This new aspect did bring a frown!
All our hard work went up in smoke,
As all the players began to choke;
Again, and again straight from the middle
You'd think we'd gone off to take a piddle;
As I gazed at the score board telly,
My knees felt like they were made of jelly.
Then down went Broadbridge he'd done his knee,
The time that was left? Minutes around three;
The game was not over as I had said,
From head to toe I was filled with dread;
As the time ticked on, my hands started shaking,
We couldn't lose not now I thought quaking,
A loss like this would put a stake though my heart,
You'd think that they would just play smart
After all this to the occasion they had rose;
Then they had stopped and started to pose,
Melbourne were beginning to look like a missile,
When the umpy raised his hands and blew the whistle.
The crowd stood up with an almighty roar,
We had won another to add to the four.
