They should sit in the members, but that doesn't mean they all do.

Usually the worst things are said near the members, more specifically in the standing room behind the goals..

I usually sit a dozen rows down and to the side of the reserve players. People there won't usually stand up and yell out at the top of their lungs "McPhee your a dirty hack" or "Nathan ya druggo!".

I think I know who the player we're talking about was.. I've met him and his 2 daughters.. Nice bloke, certainly wouldn't take that crap if the culprit said it to his face, specially infront of his children.

oh wow, cant go to a football game and scream at the top of your lungs now ?

theres no law, yes its being nice, but if you dont want to hear it, dont go

simple

:)

People shouldn't have to do to the footy to hear people yell abuse at other people.

As for the comment in bold, if you want to hurl abuse, do if from your couch at home. I'm also pretty sure if someone complains, you'll get evicted anyway.

I know who this particular player is who was mentioned by the OP - and it is extremely upsetting to hear that this is the case. Are you sure it wasn't his three daughters?

Youngest daughter was at home.

I tend to agree with that.

People have been leashing out verbal abuse at the footy ever since I can remember.. If you haven't gotten used to it yet, then sucks to be you.

If your taking your family to the footy, take them to the upper levels where barely nothing is said or happens.

All last year I was up on 3rd level in members area, if you even pulled out the s.h.i.t word you'd get a whole staring at by 3 rows of granny's!

I think I'm in a minortiy here, but I rarely, if ever, abuse players (carlton or oppostiion) or umps at the footy. I kinda grew out of that around 17-18. And I'm still dumbfounded when I see adults booing.. But that's just me.

Like a previous poster said, the most I'll do is laugh in disbelief or let out a "pffffft". I dunno why, but I have really mellowed at the footy since my rabid teenage days.

Nah dude you've missed the point. Screaming at the top of your lungs is fine (within reason). It's what is being said that's the issue.

I'll be yelling at the footy most weeks if not every week but it's almost always praising the boys not abusing them with vulgar language when they screw up.

I do bag opposition players every now and then, usually the infuriating ones like Milne etc but I still don't swear.

I can think of two answers Naughts. Either the ppl are very stressed and use the footy to let it out and/or they're idiots plain and simple.

The very stressed people need to relax at the footy, ranting and raving only raises the blood pressure. Enjoy the moment with all the trials and tribulations.

In addition to what people have said in response to the "If you don't like it don't come" argument: just because something has been happening for ages doesn't make it ok.

If you can't enjoy a day at the footy without abusing players, especially your own team's players, then you have a problem that goes beyond footy. Get it sorted instead of telling other people not to come to the game.

I think I've yelled out 'Wake up' in frustration when one of our guys fumbles badly, maybe twice this year in total at the five games I've been to. I never make it personal or nasty, though.

If you have reached a point that abusing players is beneath you Baz where did this little beauty come from?

"Bit upset are we Ben? Why is that? Is it the realisation tha Essendon wont make the finals after losing to *******s like Richmond and WCE or the fact that NLM is a filthy junkie? :o"

Or when you said grew out of it, did you actually mean you only express your opinion from the anonymity of your keyboard because its safer that way.

Piss off back to the Carlton board:mad:

I am vocal, but I never swear or totally grill players or umpires. Not only because the footy is a family event, but if you wouldn't say something directly to a persons face, then you shouldn't be yelling it anonymously.

So I'm an internet warrior while you're a real life tough guy? Congrats. But is is safer behind the keyboard because I can call you a fukchead and there's nothing you can do about it. Fukchead :)

I'm pretty easy going at the footy and in life in general. Even that post you quoted is obviously tongue in cheek. I dont get upset very often... Particularly at the footy.

Tounge in cheek or not, calling an innocent man (yes, in Australia we work under a presumption of innocence) a filthy junkie is just a low dog act. Same deal should apply with the internet as it does in real life, if you wouldn't say something to someone's face why say it at all? Who are you trying to impress?
