I've finally settled on a song which most people should know but to my knowledge is as pure as the driven snow.
I think the 20 year version has Whatever on it. IIRC it was released as a Christmas single over there?
Yeah it was a one off single that was on none of their original albums which is strange as it was one of their biggest hits.
So I can't really relate to Plugger35's stated approach where he doesn't bother listening to the songs he "already knows" and turns his nose up at most of the unfamilar stuff and basically votes on memory.
I don't mean to sound pretentious or over-analytical about it, but saying "I give my votes to the songs I like best" is simplistic. That's what we all do. We all just have our own way of arriving at that conclusion.
That's a bit harsh, I sometimes give votes to unfamiliar songs, I gave 3 votes to that Died Pretty song in the last round that I hadn't heard before, but a lot of the unfamiliar songs I just don't like enough to give votes to over better more familiar songs.
The disadvantage of nomming more obscure stuff that most people haven't heard before is that it's hard to appreciate a new song after just one listen, you usually have to listen to it at least a few times before you can appreciate it and start to like it so it's harder for those songs to get votes over the well known songs that people already like.
I've nommed some great songs that would have been unfamiliar to most people here and they either get donuts or one or two votes at best.
Everybody likes chocolate ice cream.

That vanilla I'd take and whack a big spoonfull of Nescafe blend 43 on it, the strawberry I'd tip out in the sink.
The chocolate in Neapolitan was always my least favourite flavour as a kid, I'd usually just eat the vanilla and strawberry.
