I was more referring to the other nominees than in general, and specifically As Good As It Gets and The Full Monty. Good Will Hunting and LA Confidential hold up. I don't really rate Funny Games. Starship Troopers is among my favourite movies, but would never be in Oscar for best pic contention.

Never heard of it. Only pop-up I ever get is the one telling me about all the Russian women in the neighbouring suburb that would like to meet me. I really should drop by for a nice hot bowl of borscht one day.

Good Will Hunting was one of those movies which I always watched to the end if I was flicking around the channels and chanced across it
Must've seen it a dozen or more times. Just great scenes, great acting, script, characters and story

And a great soundtrack with songs by Elliott Smith. That's how I first heard of him (same as everyone else, I guess)

I never realised the director James Cameron is an adventurer who broke the all-time depth record. He took his custom-built submersible down to the bottom of Challenger Deep in the Mariana Trench to a depth of 11km . I watched a short docco about it just the other day.

The Mt Everest references in this pic below are misleading. The Mt Everest base camp is at an altitude of 5,400m and the summit is at 8,848m. So you could actually fit THREE Mt Everests inside the Challenger Deep stacked one on top of the other...
