* yes I billied ND two contests in a row.

Notes:

ALcest - 86 - awesome intro and a great song all round. Really enjoyed this.

Spector - 67 - pretty run of the mill but good nonetheless. Just not special enough for it to really grab me.

Steve Forbert - 82 - The piano in this was absolutely delightful and this guy has such a familiar sounding voice I had to google him to see if he had been in another band or something - really enjoyed this one.

everything everything - 37 - this song is 100% build up and no pay off. Disappointing because it sounds like it could really go somewhere but then doesn - it loses points for that because while the song wasn't altogether greay I sort of felt like it was heading somewhere so kept listening in case it did. Huge let down.

boo seeka - 68 - pretty groovy track that I expect to do quite well in this lot. enjoyed it without feeling like it was ever in the mix for votes

Danny and The Juniors - 49 - Yeah, there'll be a few like this I'm sure. Love the harmony but this song is quite dated and I've heard it before - not anything I was expecting to give votes.

Genesis - Mine and this won't get many votes - maybe 5-10 and a couple of billies. Crack the top 20 and I'm happy!

Yarni & Give Me Monaco - 64 - Had to listen to this twice - the first time it just sounded like noise but I was in the car. Gave it a second listen and bumped it up to almost double its original score - glad I gave it another crack because it's actually quite pleasant. This is a very interesting nom - the percussion throughout is pretty groovy and the atmospheric jungle noises in the background give the impression of a noise machine.

Ben Howard - 54 soft acoustic guitar leading into soft melodic heartfelt vocals and delicate lyrics - not the way to win points off me so we'll say nah.

Kilat - 42 - This is what Fossie talks about when he says Screamo I'm sure. I just couldn't get into this. The guitar and drums were distorted waaaaaaay too much I couldn't even make a coherent melody out of this. Gave it the BOTD and waited until that cacophonous intro finished but then it led into the breakdown which was a slight improvement and pushed the score closer to parity. But it's a no from me.

Wellbad - 76 - Very interesting quirky sort of alternative sound to it. There's not much to say about this - it's just a legit great jam. Loved it!

Peter Sarstedt - 44 - This is like Bob Dylan in its repetitive boring musical nature but unlike Dylan the lyrics are not poignant enough to lift this any higher. It's a shame it take three quarters of the song for the cello and the strings to come into it because it actually has quite a nice ending. But the rest of the song is batshit boring.

Quincy Jones - 88 - HOT DAMN!!!! Gotta love Quincy seriously. The man can do no wrong when it comes to arrangements and producing and this is no exception - a terrific interpretation of a great 60's track from The Lovin' Spoonful. Immensely good!

Todd La Torre - 87 - and another banger to follow - that intro hits hard. This vocalist gives me Judas Priest/Iron Maiden vibes. The guitar solo is terrific and the drumming is just right on point throughout. I will be checking out more by this band for certain!

L'Ham De Foc - 45 - Just not for me. Had to skip ahead to see if it got better because the start just wasn't grabbing me. Sort of Celtic, folky sounding music. Quite skippable.

The Andrews Sisters - 48 - Another quite obviously dated song but this one is a little better than the other
two so far. I do love the old timey feel to the video and the audio as it sounds like it's playing right off the record player!

The Tea Party - 90 - I was blown away by this - was not expecting to like this song so much but after that soft acoustic intro with just enough tonal dissonance to maintain my interest - followed by those rich deep vocals, the more it went the better it got. The piano was beauitful and the drums and strings shortly after are divine.
It continues to build up but it actually gets better and better. This was a joy to listen to and imediately jumped into the mix for votes.

Fiona Apple - 74 - First I'll get the controversy out the way - I'm not a big fan of Fiona Apple - she's that type of artist I can see winning everyone's five while I tend to look elsewhere and I've heard not much by her but what I have heard so faris pedestrian by my standards.
Having said that, this is a very pleasant song - the piano as always in Apple songs is exquisite while the vocals well - they're ok I guess. The piano groove when the bridge comes in is my favourite part and this is comfortably a very worthy winner in the eyes of the SC as a full.

The The - 66 - If this is anybody Plugger I'll be shocked because I see his posts about this band frequently. A good song, but nothing incredibly special.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - 58 - Oh Smeggy is back - also I found the best comment on the videos - "before Billie there was Karen" lol
Like pretty much everything else by Yeahx3 I found this good to listen to, appreciated Karen O's vocals and the slightly distorted production without really thinking much of it. But fun song no doubt.

Roachford - 64 - Haven't heard this song in ages - good track but we're getting late in the playlist so you need to jump out. It's ok but my nostalgia couldn't even get this high enough for votes.

Shuggie Otis - 59 - See above except I haven't heard this before so was voting off how much the song grabbed me which was not much at all.

Culture Beat - 72 - classic 90's dance music and one of my faves. The slowly building synth during the rap verses is the best part capped off by that line "fill my heart with S - E - X and plenty".

Lasgo - 76 - OH YEEEEEEES this brings me back to early-mid 2000's. Another absolute bankger from my clubbbing days.

Goblin - 72 - I mean this just had those horror TV show theme vibes so it was pretty good.

Free design - 52 - pleasant to listen to but kind of meh tbh and suffered from final song fatigue.

Run of the mill. :tearsofjoy:

That's why I love it.
Spooky to get 54 though hehe #bemoreBulldog

La Torre is the current (3 albums) Queensryche vocalist. Only done the 1 solo album - sings AND plays the drums.
