Currently sitting at 86 on Metacritic, Sonic Mania is the highest rating Sonic game in 15 years and it took the fans to... well, listen to the fans and give them the Sonic game they've been asking for, for years.

12 zones, some old, some new. The old stages have a nice mix of familiarity and new routes. The new stages carry on the level design from Sonic & Knuckles, with multiple paths to take adding a lot of depth and replayability.

Not going to list the zones or unlockables for those that want to be surprised (which is no one if the amount of people on my PS4 friends list owning the game is anything to go by) but this is a platformer that is a must buy even if you're not a hardcore Sonic fan. This is a game that has been given a lot of love and care and having finished it twice already, I dare say, the best Sonic game ever.

Well isn't this an unexpected treat. I never closely followed the development of this one because I just assumed it was another re release with a couple of little easter eggs thrown in. Yesterday though after seeing it spammed on my Xbox home page I just bit the bullet and bought it because I've been a fan since 16 bit and grew up with this little hedgehog. Only a few levels in but what a fantastic homage it is to the 16 bit era with such fantastic new content as well that keeps it all fresh and new. Fantastic balance.

Any fan that hasn't got it, snap it up asap.

I'd get it as sonic 2 is me favourite but at $30 I'd rather buy the upcoming cuphead(if it's gonna sell at that price)

Haven't played it in a couple of days but i love it currently at Oil Ocean.

Onto my 3rd save file on the Switch version. Sonic & Tails complete with all emeralds, Tails complete with all emeralds and up to Oil Ocean as Knuckles with all emeralds.

Just doing 1 play through as Sonic & Tails on the PS4 version for now so my 7 year old can choose a level and play as Super Sonic, wasn't going to but she was getting frustrated with Chemical Plants classic water rising section.
