I'm slowly getting through this.

Just watched the season 6 finale. * me, I've never hated a TV character more than I hate Gemma. Why couldn't she have already been knocked off ffs. Hate how they wrote Tara out of the show as well. Thought season 6 was the worst season so far.

I get the impression season 7 is going to be wild. 1 episode in and the torture scene of the young asian guy was pretty twisted. Jax has completely gone off the rails haha.

Also, I must have missed it but how did Jax go from going to prison for potentially 25 years (giving himself up as the source of the KG9's) to being released the very next episode, all because Tara died? How were the charges connected to her death at all?

iirc he was going to give himself up but then Tara died and he didn't, he never put anything on paper and the leverage of him turning himself in was that Tara goes free, but with Tara dead there was no more leverage. He was only in Prison because they thought he killed Tara & Eli

That would explain it. The show did a terrible job of explaining it though haha. Like he was in prison, beat the s**t out of someone then he was out.

The show really turns into a steaming pile of s**t after the first few seasons. Sutter couldn't balance his personal life and show runner duties and the result was way too much screentime to Gemma which really turned the show stale. (Her story arc with Juice anybody?)

At least we won't die wondering if the show could have used a few more Katey Sagal ballad montage scenes. :drunk:

To many characters died and they didn't establish new characters that were as good. There was a sense of family in the beginning with Jax having a family and Op having a family, Halfsac having an old lady and even Kyle the bloke who had been excommunicated. In the end all there was was Jax's family I hated both Tara and Gemma. Part of what made the show great was the fact that they weren't afraid to kill big characters like Oppie and Halfsac but they needed to be better replaced them going left a void that Ratboy and Quinn never filled.

There is more to the decline than just losing some of the members Unser and Hale had a great dynamic and worked well together. Eli had that to a degree but once he was gone the cops were nothing characters.

They kept killing people off and that made the show great but ultimately it was also its undoing

The big thing for me was it just became torture-porn towards the end.
The first few seasons were so much fun and the ins-and-outs of being a gun-running biker made for exciting viewing.
Then they were in an icecream shop because... Okay? And everybody was miserable.

I liked how it showed the ups and downs of the life style

Got old for me when Jax kept scheming things and people against each other and never directly experienced consequences. Also the longer the series went the more sexualised it became, and given American purity the Home and Away style scenes began to drag the tone of the show down when the only thing they could show was Jax's cheeks. Same can be said for language I guess.

******* violent though, and that's a-ok apparently.

Finally got around to watching this on Netflix.

I thought it ebbed and flowed a bit, but the first 5 seasons or so were pretty solid. The last couple not so much, as someone said here, it is a blokes soap opera, and while much of what happened late in the show is fanciful at best, authorities would not be looking the other way when there is, for example a 16 person massacre. It was also quite amusing just how poorly everybody but the SoA was at shooting. There were some mighty high powered weapons on that show, and the amount of times that the cast and their bikes were point blank, but they consistently rode away unscathed but their opponents slaughtered was amazing - same goes for consistently getting hit in the same place in fist fights, but (relatively) few broken noses, jaws, cheekbones or teeth knocked out. Also not a single one-punch fatality in all that fighting!

Agree the attachment to, or depth of characters in the club who replaced dying originals was never there. Became much more muscle and meathead as the focus increasingly narrowed on the Teller family and namely Gemma and Jax. This ultimately detracted from the show as Jax became less and less likable, almost on the same tangent as his introspection and the musical interludes.

Lastly, I do wonder if this show was better watched on a weekly basis per its design than binged. All in all, probably went a bit too long for mine.

The first few seasons were a LOT of fun. It was a really good show to switch off to think '**** yeah, SAMCRO!"

Once Jax became president though the show became insanely boring.
The show used to be "Guns! Bikes! Patch-overs! Hot girls! Bikers, yeww!"
And then turned into really really dull politics, repetitive characters and bizzare character choices.

Like you said, it's hilarious how they bill Charming as a small country town yet there's Russian arms-dealing, prostitution, a porn industry, drugs.... It's so ridiculous ya gotta laugh.
Also the Son's bikes all suck. Mayans were way better.

Would still binge the first few seasons again though 😌

SoA got progressively more brutal and graphically violent. Definitely a few scenes in the last couple of seasons I had to look away or walk away when they happened.

Too bad the graphic nudity did not match the graphic violence. Seeing Marilyn Manson rape Juice in jail was not on my bucket list.

I mean that the weekly year to year viewing stretched out the memory so that the farcical storylines in the latter seasons were forgotten and forgiven

7 seasons was good, just felt they lacked depth in the end and the focus got to narrow. But overall where the story finished I was happy with that, but still think season 6-7 could have been better executed

Aside from Jax (arguable anyway as he was a movie actor before this) and Clay (definitely movie star already) the only SOA I have seen about since the show has been Chips.

Any others maintained their careers?
