What anonoys me is while Eventopia might be liable. Maddah is in the background blaming them for just about everything and fighting some crusade for the fans against the big company which he owes millions to. He also owes millions to bands that played the festival, of course none of it was his fault.

AJ's has always been a liar. To suggest he was close to getting RATM is so rediculous I don't think anyone would actually beleive it. 36 days out from his festival which would take them two days to travel too, he wants to reform one of the most sought after festival bands in the world for that genre. A band that size would book at least 12 months in advance. They would bring about 50 people with them who need flights and accomodation. RATM wouldn't just get together one weekend for a rehearsal and weeks later jump on a plane.

In the end his model was never going to work. He could of booked half as many internationial bands over the years and still had a successful festival.
 
Still, what Eventopia are doing is highly dubious and illegal. They can't just transfer their burden to the punters which is what they are doing. Surprised Ticketek gave them the go ahead for that email. Contradicts their own terms in multiple ways.
 
Yeah, I don't know enough about it. They would of known the festival was in trouble so it seems a huge risk to take without knowing where they stood when it all fell apart.

3 festivals have died under his administration. He's the problem.
 
Anyone able to explain how the bank charge back system works. Some people are getting their money back 3 months after buying tickets. That money has to come from somewhere as AJ has spent it all. Do the banks then become a creditor and chase AJ?

It seems a good idea, I just wouldn't have thought it was set up for this kind of situation.

Banks simply are getting the money back from Eventopia, the way it should be.

Probably because he's an arrogant self obsessed twat who keeps ****ing things up and seems completely incapable of taking any sense of responsibility. It's always someone else's fault.
 
Sad thing for Eventopia is that they had the opportunity to just offer the refunds (which they're likely to be legally obliged to do anyway) and they'd come out as the good guys, rather than dragging themselves through the mud with AJ. Whoever runs their publicity should have some serious questions raised about their competence.

I have been wondering just what effect this will have on getting some of these bands back. Most would overlook it, but I'm sure some will decide that they'll give Australia a miss for a while.

Safe to say they'd never agree to work with AJ and Eventopia again though
 
Well Eventopia have now accepted that it's their responsibility to return the money to the punters!
 
Its a real shame. In the end he bit off more than he could chew. Turning it into a 2 day festival was never going to work.
 
I see AJ is quick to point out Eventopia have a flawed business model.

I think AJ will walk away from this and come back again in a few years. He seems to have a way of brushing off any reaponsibilty and bassically getting away with fairly unethical and unprofessional behaviour. I doubt he can just walk away.

AJ has also said he has screwed up, many times over.

He took on far more than what was realistically viable following a perfect storm 2013 when he was able to turn a massive profit because of a behemoth lineup. That was able to eventuate only because of the bonkers AUD at the time and a lot of available A grade artists.

Lot of parallels between AJ Maddah and the WA government. Both spent like drunken sailors during economic planet alignment and point the finger at everything else when they are in massive debt as things reverse.

They dont have the money, Maddah has it/spent it. They will be suing him to get it back but it will be fruitless. Eventopia should be applauded for what they are doing, they have been completely screwed by Maddah.

Seriously what is up with you people... In their own damn terms they say that money spent on tickets will be held in trust. They should be applauded for waiting a week before offering refunds that they are obligated by law to give? Lel.

I have no idea who is right or wrong in that one but there are a lot of bands owed money and that is not Eventopia's fault but AJ's.

I get annoyed when a read someone saying I'll always be greatful to AJ for bringing a certain band out last year without recognising that the band didn't get paid. I bet if they didn't get paid for their work they would be angry about it.
