Well either way Gavaskar was one of the first Indian players to stand up against the big boy teams like Australia, England and the West Indies back in those days.

Up until then India were subservient to their colonial masters, Gavaskar was one of the best opening batsmen and one of the first Indians to step up Kohli style.

He's a true cricket legend, he paved the way for the modern day Indian players.
There is a youtube video with Gavaskar talking about the incident.
If there is one innings I would have loved to witness was his 236 not out against the Windies with Marshall, Roberts, Holding and Davis as the pace attack in the Windies in 1983.

Never imagined this year's Freedom trophy would be about getting freedom from Pujara and Rahane, but here we are.
Pretty harsh that. Yes those two haven't played well but you need to take 20 wickets to win a match and you haven't looked likely at all the last two matches. While Rabada, Ngidi and Jansen have been superb.

Brilliant performance this from South Africa. The opening day of the first Test was the difference that match. Since then they’ve been getting better and better every innings.

India bowled well without reward, best the bat regularly, edges falling short in the first innings and then this morning when it carries Pujara inexplicably drops it.

Meanwhile you look at Petersen’s catch at leg gully yesterday morning. The catch in the slips to remove Kohli. The game changing spells of Rabada etc. Match changing stuff, and in the end, series winning stuff.

They’ve taken 60 wickets as well this series. India currently on 43. Well played and well deserved to SA.
