Pity the legacy from Mr Moneybags still casts its shadow on the Peanut Farm. Ezra was the best player in the comp and Quinn the most influential but commanded a good price, as you would expect. There needs to be a reality check down there. Nice to win games but the ridiculous benefactor isn't there any more to pay for it. Ezra and Miles move on! the party's over

Here here hilly you're spot on if they want big money they should join us at hurlingham. They'd have to start in the twos and work their way up learning hopeys style of play. It's good to see the peanuts back in the bigfooty news

Seems I'm in the minority!

My opinion is based on a club like Ashwood. They finished in the bottom 2/3 in Div 1 for about 5 years running without being relegated. Finally they were relegated, but the soul/fight had seemingly been stripped out of the club and they are now in Division 3. Had they gone down a few years earlier, I have no doubt they would still be in Div 2, or maybe even back in Div 1.

East Malvern are another club that were around the bottom few for a few years in Div 1 and have now gone back to Div 2. If they had of remained in Div 1 for a few more years and stayed in the same region of the ladder, it may well have seen them fall over as a footy club. No one like to be uncompetitive three/four years running, everyone needs a light at the end of the tunnel.

I agree that the jump up for the two clubs being promoted is big, but at least they are doing it after a successful season. IMO, the two down part of the deal is the more beneficial as clubs are able to go back to a level where they will be more competitive and hopefully give them a chance to reload and make a better fist of their return to the higher division when the time comes.

Super get a grip! One of the biggest issues surrounding this 2 up 2 down debacle is that the clubs don't want it. Argue the fors and againsts all you like. It's stupid. Example how do Bentleigh go in Div 1, Highett will only be saved from relegation by Mordialloc maybe. Where and how does Clayton go this year if they had been relegated? They'll go OK this year. Look at history! Your club won 2 flags in a row 93/94 from memory and didn't want to go up because "we weren't ready" Get serious! The fact the SFL has acted in this dictatorial manner and announced something that was overwhelmingly rejected only 18 months ago beggars belief

Have changed my opinion over the past few days Hilly. Am now in agreeance that it probably isn't the right move right now for the league.

I wasn't aware at the time that clubs had knocked it back a few years ago. Had I known that, and the background you, as well as many others have provided, my opinion probably wouldn't have originally in support of 2 up, 2 down.

Super going down a division doesn't guarantee success. That is an absolute fallacy. Look at Murrembeena, Oakleigh Districts, Caulfield, Ashwood, Springvale Districts, Lyndale and the list goes on

Agreed, and i asked our president yesterday what was going on and he said its been put through but all clubs are required in the not to distant future to actually have a vote on it this time rather than the the SFL just making silly decisions on their own. Mr Holdsworth might get a surprise this time round because i dont think there will be too many clubs agreeing to it.

You are an idiot whoever you are You're not from East Brighton. Suggest you join your indigenous friends with the riot bag either under the tree or at the Luna Park pocket. Imbecile!

Hilly, when are you going to grow up and be honest with yourself, you need to get rid of the stkilda city hard on, both myles and ezra played last year post money bags???? , and as far as money bags goes i would like to see what your club would put out there if you pulled your coin out? I reckon your club would be better off banning you on here, because alcohol and big footy dont mix well. We are hopeful of ezra returning soon and trying to talk quinn out of retirement, stay tuned. Its like you are in fear of our club being in the finals and competing, if I were your club i would be more worried about st pauls after the absolute flogging they gave you in the grand final and they way your club suffered from stagefright on the big day!

Isn't he going overseas at various times this season??

Yeah, was away for round 1, I guess he is in semi retirement, the blokes given our club 4+ years of brilliant service and nothing is forever if only we could clone him, he pretty much a week to week proposition:thumbsu::thumbsu:

There's been some strained relationships over the last few years between the clubs, for whatever reasons, but that is all but gone after you guys embracing the concept last year. Was a fantastic gesture and totally accepted in the spirit it's intended.

Again, let the boys know that their significant female others are more than welcome into the rooms for Ladies day.

No vote required according to the by laws. Done and dusted unless clubs object. Who is this Hilly anyway? There was a Steve Hill that played at StKilda is it the same bloke?

Interesting to see the Div 1 Reserves Ladder.
5 teams with 2 wins & 5 without a victory yet, shows that some teams have good depth

I know its only round 2 but a strong reserves often reflects a healthy club where good numbers aren't difficult to attract. It also helps when the calibre of the guys in the 2's are very close to playing 1's
At the Doggies we have a few guys missing a game each week in the 2's through big numbers.
How are the rest of the Div 1 lists going number wise?

We have over 90 blokes on our list but we do have Thirds. 80 trained on the Thursday prior to Round 1. Made circle work tough!

In Rounds 1 and 2 I think we have had 7 or 8 players who played in our Senior SF last year play in our Reserves each week. Depth is important.

No it is not done yet, as this is a big step back for the league, and I'm sure they will lose more clubs than they would gain (So they might only have 10 teams left)
VAFA do it, but they have (the old boys network ) to get there players from and PLUS THEY DON'T PAY there players (LOL)

If we did this, then we might as well just join up with the VAFA

Meetings will be called in the next week to stop this happening and the 30 CLUBS in the SFL will have there say, as this has to go to a vote

I Hope you are correct FG. You are probably across the following from Matt Duck which makes me think you are not. If the clubs are against this they need to get off their bums and make sure it doesnt happenned. As I said earlier there is one board member ( who has done a lot of good for comp ) that wont let it go.
Whilst the League is similar to many others in terms of adopting a Promotion/Relegation system, it has differed to many other leagues in that currently only one side per division is promoted, and only one side per division is relegated each season.

The League has recently undergone an extensive review of its Promotion/Relegation system, with the Board (and in particular the Football Operations Committee) engaging in robust discussion and research on the merits of our current system as opposed to systems implemented in other competitions across many sports and countries.

On the basis of these extensive discussions, the decision has been made to this year alter the Promotion/Relegation system to a ‘2 up, 2 down’ system.

At the conclusion of the 2012 season, two teams will be promoted from Division 3 to Division 2 and two teams from Division 2 to Division 1, whilst two teams will be relegated from Division 1 to Division 2 and two teams from Division 2 to Division 3.

We reiterate this decision has been made after lengthy consideration on the back of strong evidence and research from other competitions here and abroad that supports the implementation of a similar process.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Kind regards

Yes we got this e-mailed sent to us and that is what started it all.
But the great news is, that it is now dead in the water, and the e-mail will be sent to all the clubs in the next week, to say they made a BIG mistake

I know we've only had 2 rounds, but who have being the standouts at your club as far as NEW players have gone. Some players come with big wraps but dont deliver, whilst others come with no fanfare but are significant list improvers

Sawers & Freeman at Dingley. Both have been stand outs in the 1st 2 games. The rest have been serviceable.

i see marcus wilson has put a clearance in to east brighton. most over rated player to play in the alberton league last season. i hope they arent wasting any $$ on him.
