One of the latest trade rumours is a straight swap of Spaanderman for Kasey Green from the Eagles. Personally this is a deal I really like. Green is a tall defender, who I thought played pretty well in the GF. Hasn't received the opportunities at WCE due to the form of Glass and Hunter this year, but would be a solid tall backman.

Spaanderman is a tease. He has the height, pace and skills to be anything, but seems to lack the application and a football brain. He may turn out to be a good footballer, but just does not fit into the Matthews mould. I have a feeling that he isn't ever going to perform more than a few cameos in the AFL.

Not sure I'd call him tall, CJ -- he's about Notting's height I reckon, but I agree it's a fair deal if it goes thru.

To be honest we would probably trade Browne. Has had an injury all season.

Started playing WAFL near the end of the year and was tearing them up before rolling an ankle.

Two years ago i would have said no, but i think he would be on the table. Perhaps a Browne and Gilmore package? How good is Spaanderman, am i over rating him?

Green is 187cm (6'1"ish in the old money). Played mainly as a midfileder at East Fremantle but a half-back at WC (taking both small and mediums - took O'Keefe in GF). He can also play effectively as a run with on baller.

A good solid footballer who is also a top bloke.

I guess with the apparent demise of the Scott's, ready made half backs could be of benefit to Brisbane, whereas 185-190cm players are pretty plentiful at WC.

When Spaanderman was over here at East Perth, there were huge wraps on him, has he just not come on over there?

I don't know much about Gilmore to be truthful.

'Black Betty', as we call him, is 199cm ruck/forward. Very mobile and covers the ground amazingly well for big guy. We've put 2 years development into him so far. Certainly still learning as a footballer.

like someone said he just doesnt fit with mathews style and we have plenty of his type of player...dont think he will get much of a go here

the point you made bout the scotts is valid so kasey would be v handy

Daniel Gilmore.

Apparently very arrogant. Doesn't stick to the team plan very well. Scores huge amounts of possessions in the half-backline of the WAFL (44,38,39 etc) and is extremely damaging.

A good example of a game of AFL he did quite well was the game against Sydney where he tagged Goodes.
K H T M HO T FF FA G B
Goodes 14 2 16 5 6 2 2 0 1 0
Gilmore 17 0 17 8 2 1 1 2 1 0

Has been told he needs to be harder at the contest. The same thing Flinchy McPhee was told. He was dropped after the Sydney game for not playing a tight tag on Goodes. On occasion he ran off and did well, one or two times he was exposed. For this reason he was dropped not to return for the season. He was far from our worst that day, but clearly lacks on field discipline.

Perhaps Matthews hard nature and big reputation might put the kid in line. He is an excellent rebounding HBF when playing well.

Peake is off the table. We need all the pacy midfielders we can find.

Hasn't ripped holes in attacks, but 19 year old 200cm blokes don't tend to as rule. Was very good in his first year in AFLQ in 2004 coming 3rd in the Grogan medal and kicking quite a few bags.

Had three issues to deal with in 2005.
1) After his AFL debut in round 6 missed the middle 6 weeks with injury which hurt his senior prospects.
2) We drafted a massive kid ruckman (205cm) last year (Wood) who rucked all year, meaning Betty did less ruck work. I think he's a forward, but rucking will help his game at this stage.
3) Merrett did fairly well at CHF/FF when he got the chance, and it's difficult to use both Betty and Strawb in the same forward line with Brown and Bradshaw. Neither have much key backline experience.

Got back in the senior side late in the year, when Brown went down, but things were pretty tough across the board.

Cheers.

Anytime we at WC see a 6'6" guy with skills who can play forward we get somewhat excited.

It amazes me that Lions supporters feel this is an equitable trade.
It appears that Leigh is desperate to get rid of Spaanderman and will take any offer on the table.
Kasey Green is not the type of player we need. He's a dime a dozen type easily drafted in the later rounds of any draft. We currently have the following players competing for a position for which Kasey Green will also be competing. Attard, Forsyth, Macdonald, Copeland, Moody, Logan etc... At 26 years of age he has hardly had any significant impact at the Eagles. This swap is very much in the Eagles balance.
While Spaander is out of favour he still is only 19 a big ruckman come forward that has another four years of football development before the investment benefits can surface.
Kasey Green will be delisted by the Eagles if he is not traded. If we do end up with him, the likelihood is we will delist him next season as well.
It appears we have been taken by that single effort in the Grand Final.

Like I said previously. Our work during this trading period has looked, desperate, amateurish, certainly without purpose or strategy.
I will be glad when 2.00 o’clock comes. Any longer and we will be trading Brown for Humm. God forbid.

Goodbye, Black Betty!

Not up to it I'm afraid, best to get something for him rather than simply a de-listing - any trade will be a good trade.

Spaanda for Browne and Gilmore I'd be interested. Is Siegert up for trade?
Gilmore has "attitude" according ot some people at south Freo but has always seemed to play well in the games he got for Freo and then get the a rse by CC. Obviously not in the in crowd. I rate Browne, uses the ball really well but suffered one hammy injury after another, also a bit similar to Bell but quicker.
Siegert I think will be on offer. Good player though, could make a reasonable HBF or run with.
Peake? I don't think you'lkl even get a sniff of him...oozes class and very quick, not something we have a lot of.

Gilmore listens to no one, does what he wants when he wants, the guy needs to grow up.

Im not convinced of Spaanderman, he wont be rucking for us thats for sure and the fact we rejected him for pretty much free shows we dont have much interest in him

P.S What a name though.
