Sorry for the new thread guys but I couldn't access the actual song contest thread because of all the spam.

How about this for a rule:

NO Spamming songs UNTIL you have voted.

Even then, you are limited to no more than five spams - if you feel you must spam something else, make it a link instead of an inbedded youtube video.

If you spam before voting, you get a warning.

Do it again, and your nom is revealed. (so you lose your anonimity - this may be too harsh. Let me know)

If you spam more than five, you also lose your anonimity.

I dunno - soemthing like that. The trouble with this I suppose is it has to be policed by the host of the round which makes it difficult.

I'm open to other suggestions too.

I don't mind the spam. I don't look at it anyway, and then I go to the first post to find the playlist for the current round.

I did like the "no spam until after you've voted" idea, but that would have to be self-policed.

Even I find all the spam annoying which is why I have cut back to only spamming a few songs but even if everyone just spams a few songs it still adds up.

Not sure it would work with a separate spam thread though, if there was just a thread full of spam no one would bother looking at it.

I post a bit of spam but not pages upon pages of it like BoO and, sometimes, Gigantor does. I wouldn't call myself a serial spamming pest.

My favourite time in the songcontest is between rounds, nobody spams because we don't no what songs have gone up and it creates some good chat.

How about we just ban all spamming in the song contest thread?

No half measures… None of this, "But I only posted one or two songs". If you like a song so much that you gotta spam it, then you probably should've nominated it instead of that other boring vote-whore nomination you went with.

I agree with you BOO - I only tagged you and roo and plugger because almost as soon as the noms are released, spam spam spam. Sorry to single you out - I know there's others out therte that do it. Hell, I'm always spamming some dream theater too. BUT, can we at LEAST wait until we have voted.

I don't like spam at all. That's not to say I'm against people posting a song which they personally enjoy and is relatable to the thread.

But there are several of you who post so much shit, that it's hard to navigate through the thread. In order to access the playlist, sometimes I have to wade through five or six pages of crap to find it. It's counterproductive to the very operation of the song contest vis a vis listening to the nominations, boting, finding out the winner and starting all over again.

Spam is the constant, unrelenting spreading of messages which adds little to the thread. Uploading a song, carefully chosen as a relevant piece of work in relation to the theme of the round's contest, which people would enjoy listening to, and which serves as a nice accompaniment to the thread, is entirely different. I wonder which is better.

I have the same problem, still, I spammed like hell last night. Happy for a No Spam rule if we can have shorter turnaround times on noms and results and no extensions on deadlines. (I'm relatively new though so I'll STFU)

I reckon if people have an 'alternate' song they were considering then go for it, but posting 3 or 4 songs per post, with several posts in a row, is ****ing annoying.

Throwing up a possible alternative to spamming for those who like to participate in the thread whilst waiting for votes to come in. How about the host of that current round puts forward a question related to the theme that can be discussed, debated or even melted over after he/she has released the noms. For example the current Olympic round could have asked:

Your favourite national anthem? or

Does Australia need a new national anthem? or

Nikki Webster, unfortunate victim of the tall poppy syndrome, or just plain shit?

I usually just post a few other songs I considered nomming, I don't post pages upon pages of every song I can think of that relates to the theme.

As I said before though, even if people just post a few songs it can still add up to a lot of spam which slows the thread down.

Maybe people should just type the names of the song rather than posting the youtube vids, most people probably don't watch the videos anyway.
