If we are dumb enough to get Mclean for pick 11
who knows what we will do.

We will prob give a second round pick or something stupid for him.

We are a dumb club and Mclean sums us up.

Stupid

That has nothing to do with Spangher.

Stop being an attention seeking troll and a moron.

McLean is completely irrelevant to the merits of getting Spangher to the club. If you want to have a whinge over the McLean decision, do it in another thread where it is more appropriate.

We're a good club, we just have dumb supporters like you.

We recuit players who are shit for high picks, pretty sure its relevant to Spanger.

Spanger is a complete dud who I have watched numerous times so we will more than likely be keen.

We seem to enjoy throwing away picks.

He definitely isn't as bad as you guys are making him out to be. He is agile, athletic, tough and pretty versatile. We basically played him for the purpose of increasing his trade value late in the season (imo) and he was very solid at times.

Thing is we have Schofield, Brown, Mackenzie, J.Jones, Hurn, Butler as defenders and guys like Sheppard and Smith who are fighting for the HBF position - we can afford to lose him, and we aren't going to try and play him for development when we KNOW that he wants to go home, what a waste of time. We couldn't find a good trade last season so he was kept on for depth.

What depth you guys have for bottom of the ladder. Guns like Mackenzie who is an absolute spudd. Brown who looks good but can hardly get his body right. Butler? Jones? wow you guys could come 15th next year if all goes well.

Spanger can't even break into the backline with the names you have said so that really shows where he is at. Thanks even 90% of the eagles fans admitt hes shit on your board.

Mackenzie,Jones,Brown,Butler. Future is bright

Why would we let him play in the backline when he said he wants to be traded? Why not develop guys who we believe will stay with the club?

And cheers, our future backline does look solid ;)

Without the unecessary exaggeration that so plagues these types of threads I think he must be close to the worst listed player that gets semi-regular gametime.

Size wise he might tick a few boxes but looks clueless with the ball anywhere in his general vicinity.

My faith in the club has not wavered through the darkest of times...this would certainly give it a nudge.

He said from the start of the year he wanted a trade did he? He is a spudd most of you lot admitt it. 4th round pick maybe 3rd and you guys are laughing.

I would of thought would just be happy to get him off the list if he can't break into the eagles side he won't break into many others.

Only ever seen him once late last year and played a great game off half back. Seemed quite athletic and agile and marked everything, think he ended up with 26 disp and about 13 marks. obviously not enough to judge him on though, ill leave that to the 20+ highly qualified talent scouts we have on this board.
Sounds like the game I watched I actually wrote his name down particulary with Supercoach in mind for 2010, but he's barely played this season & obviously now is out of favour. But if he can play a game like this one you have to look into it. For some guys it's just a matter of playing regular footy that brings out their best.

Perhaps our needs for a kpd have been answered?
I see Spangher as a player who definately deserves to be looked at, I rate him higher than both Mackenzie and Schofield.
Thoughts?

Hi Mitch.

Heard you on SEN this AM.

If you can't get Greg Denham to agree to a ridiculous trade idea then you are seriously in trouble. :thumbsu::D

I fancy myself as having a knack for talent and I see alot fo good things in Spangher.
He is quick enough, tough as nails, versatile (can play on all sizes) and is an ok kick of the footy.

Really depends on which way results go in Trade Week. If we pick up another KPD, Spangher wont be in calculations, but if there isnt anything we like then he could well be looked at as a 3rd tall, given the departure of Bret Thornton.

i dont really like his hairdo! but if he comes for sfa, eg browne trade why not, depth at best

This bloke is a spud. He has played most of the year in the WAFL for East Freo Sharks and was ordinary at best.

T-bird is twice the footballer

If you can't secure a place in that Weagles lineup, that alone rings serious alarm bells.

:)

Agreed! Let's focus on what we have in our own backyard (there are a few unpolished gems) - develop our young guys! Our development coaches need to up the ante: White, Austin, Davies, et al all need to be pushing to get into our backline next year - let's bring them on post-haste! Not interested in trading for hacks from other clubs - Spangher could be okay with a change of scenery, but I reckon we'll get more out of developing our own! The secret to success is resilience and staying on course - the quick fix is just that, and more often than not the "fix" is debatable. The days of picking up a swag of top-line players from interstate/other clubs (Kernahan, Bradley, Motley, Hunter, Bosustow, Dorotich, etc.) are long gone; the riches are there: DEVELOP them!

Where's Mark Austin at?

Know he's had an injury interrupted year (and career), but on the whole is he still viewed as filling in a key defensive role and adding a bigger body down back?

Last year we talked about getting an in and under stoppage player for Judd, and went out and traded highly for McLean. Not taking a pot shot at McLean by any means and like him as a player, but lately we've managed to fill the in and under stoppage "hole" by using Grigg & Ellard who were already at the club when we got McLean.

Wouldn't want to go out and trade away good currency when at day's end we find that players like Austin are more than capable of filling our gaps

The difference between Mclean and Spangher is Spangher wouldn't cost us anywhere near a first round draft pick.

Tall, athletic defenders are something in which we lack depth. Consider he's played only 26 games in 3 years since debut. Mark Austin 14 games over the same period.

A fresh start in a new club that's going places. Sure he hasn't set the world on fire but WCE have been in the bottom 8 since he debuted and it's probably a reflection on Worsfold and their development culture.

Spangher is not that tall, not that athletic and not very strong. We have enough of these types of defenders. We need some big strong power backs to balnce thinks out. White showed promise in that regard.

195cm and 95kg. Bigger than Jamison and Bower. Simon White is only 190cm.

Seeing Andrew Walker play CHB was, frankly, embarrassing. In that light could make sense to stock up on experienced AFL talls.

I'm not saying 'get him' but don't dismiss the idea out of hand, especially if it doesn't cost us more than pick 55 or later.

that is what I mean - we have enough of similar

Well let's just get this guy then:
