It was Saturday 21st of October. I was with a mate and his dad in our Toyota Hiace Van 1989 model. We had a heavy load and I was on a country dirt road. I was approaching the corner and i was slowing down. I hit loose gravel and spun 20 metres and then the van tipped over. It was facing the way we were coming from on the other side of the road when it tipped over. So it basically did 180 degrees. Everyone is alright. The side of the van it landed on has structural damage and dints. No windows broke but the side one came out slightly. We were only 2 k's from our destination where we were going to do stuff. If it wasn't for seat belts there would have been serious injury. I stayed in the same position i was as i was driving. I am bigger than the other 2 and would have squashed them. As soon as it happened i asked if everyone was alright then I opened the door. Geez van doors are hard to open when you are underneath one. Sat on the top of the van, the other 2 got out and helped me down as I had a knee reconstuction almost 16 weeks ago.

Got help from the people we were going to help. Rolled the van back over. Took 2 hours to get it drivable for me to drive it back to my mates house. We had no idea where to put the Jack to change the back tyre. The front left one was flat when i got to my friends place. We will find out tomorrow how bad the damage is. It will probably be a write-off. I have slight neck pain coz of the force the neck got. The other people have no pain at all.

A year I am never going to forget. Knee reconstruction and then a bad accident. I have bad luck. I said during the year I havn't had an injury playing footy, 2 weeks later i did a knee. I then was saying how I have been on my P's for almost 12 months and I havn't crashed. A few weeks later it happened. I should watch what I say. The worst thing is the year isn't over yet.

Have any of you been in a similar situation? Have you had an accident? How bad was the damage. Feel free to say what you have experienced.

 SPECIALBRUCE!!!!!!!!! Poor baby, glad you're OK, take it easy babe ok. :)

Never been in a serious car accident, my brother and his mate had one a couple of years ago. This guy suddenly turned into the car, thanks to some swift moves by my brother (he'd only had his license for a few months too) the van hit the centre pillar of the car, effectively saving his mate's life. It was VERY freaky indeed.

Glad to hear you are ok. Take care of yourself.

You will never see me driving. Undre no circumstances. My friends try to talk me out of it, but they can try all they like. Driving is just another way to end up dead.

Of course a pedant like me will have to point out that Saturday was the 20th of October, not the 21st! :p

(Oh, and I am pleased that you are OK!)

My Mrs once parked our car too close to a tree! She was 4 months pregnant at the time! She was driving down one of the dirt roads near where we live, on her way to pick me up from the station when she lost control and ended up off the road and into the trees.

She didn't actually hit the trunk but hit a low hanging bough with the rook. The roof was pushed so far down that the sun visor was resting flush against her forehead. She didn't get even a scratch though.

The accident nonetheless triggered blood pressure problems which resulted in our baby being born 2 months premature.

The date of the accident was the 7th of February, 1992. I remember the date clearly as it was the day before my birthday.

Happy Birthday Chris!

Glad to hear you are OK specialbruce.

I've had one very minor accident. I was driving down the street late on Sunday night when all of a sudden a car went straight through a stop sign in front of me. I braked hard and we only hada slight collision.

Turned out the driver of the other car was a friend of mine!!! She felt so awful about it, but fortunately no one was hurt, and as it was pretty obvious who was to blame I didn't get too upset at all - after all I knew she would be the one paying! :p

My Mum also managed to back the car into the front gate yesterday, ripping the gate out of the ground and putting a nice dent in the car - and she always said it would be me! :)

Very scary, SpecialBruce. I've spun out once, turning onto the Eastern Freeway from Doncaster Road (prior to the extension being added). It was a wet road and I was going too fast; as I started to spin out of control, I simply shut my eyes and went with the flow. When I felt the car stop, I opened my eyes and I was a foot from a pole and concrete pilon - very lucky indeed!

Glad your ok Brucie.

Now my story which happened only yesterday! I was behind a car at a stop sign, we were both turning right, although there was fairly heavy traffic going both ways (since it was 5.30pm) and there were no breaks in the traffic. How here comes the bad bit, Mr Intelligent (car in front of me) becomes impatient and wants to now turn left, so he reverses to get some room and change sides of the road, although he forgets that maybe there is a chance that another vehicle could be behind him. So he reverses, and crunch, he hits my beautiful Mazda "zoom zoom" 121. The left bumper and passanger door aren't too good and there is paint scratched/scraped. My mate sitting next to me quickly grabs this guys registration plate and I get a good description of his mug. He took off straight after this happened, didn't stop to check if we were ok/swap details. I went down to the police station today to report the accident and filled out a long form. Anyway, the guy is going down down down because we got his car details, he left an accident scene, he was at fault (c'mon reversing at a stop sign? What driving school did he go to?) but it's so frustrating that I now have to frig around getting quotes to fix my gogo mobile.

Be careful Go Eagles, apart from your mate have you any witnesses, because I can almost guarantee that the driver of the other car will say you ran into the back of him, when there is damage to the rear of someones car, the cops tend to believe the driver in the front car.

Don't want to upset you, just telling you to beware & hope someone independant saw it.

Cheers

Mantis - There were no other cars behind or to the side of us and there was nobody on the street, so I dont think there were any other witnesses. I know for a fact that there was more damage to my car then his car, which I now think was a Toyota Lexus. If I ran into him, then his car would have more damage to it, right? Surely they can call forensics and prove that he made contact to my Goggo (I won't forget ever again in my life Mr Ripper, thats R-i-p-p-e-r).

I'm thinkin I might try and sue this guy for non-pecuniary losses (shock, mental frustration) although the sheffiff/police officer I spoke too wasn't too helpful - they were eating donuts and trying to look busy.

The damage can't really show who hit who, the guy that ran into the back of my car totalled the front of his & couldn't drive it, while mine although the boot & bumper were damaged wasn't anywhere near as bad.

I am just warning you because a friend of mine was stopped at a stop sign on a steep hill & the car in front of him rolled bacwards when he tried to move, had bad brakes, he admitted it was his fault then 2 days later he found out in the police report the driver said he ran into the back of him while he was stopped at the sign, no witnesses apart from his passenger, guy in front who was in the wrong won.

Yikes thats bad! I guess I'm more frustrated with the time It will take me to get a quote and find time to put the car in for repairs. The money isn't really an issue, since insurance should be able to cover it.

Do you have any idea how long it takes for the traffic police to phone you back with details on the other driver?

Cops get back to you. Give them 48 hrs & then ring the station to see if they have made any progress & keep ringing until you get a result, otherwise they will file it in the bin because no one was injured.
