It's been pointed out many times that to win the flag you have to have one of the older lists. Average age about 26 sounds about right to be in the premiership window.

C: Hill, Neale, Bennell
HF: Mayne, McCarthy, D.Pearce
FF: Ballantyne, Pavlich, Walters
R: Sandilands, Fyfe, Mundy
INT: Griffen, Barlow, Suban, De Boer

God I hope we get McCarthy

The players we have are good enough to take out the premiership. The problem is going to be strategical. If we don't have a decent tall forward option, then abandon the idea of playing like a traditional football team. The 4 man interchange bench, coupled with our crazy midfield depth is how we win. Release the shackles and try to run over teams. Fyfe, Mundy, Neale, Barlow, Bennell, Hill, D. Pearce, C. Pearce, Suban, Mzungu, Blakely, Weller, Langdon, Sutcliffe (I am convinced he is actually a midfielder), Sheridan and De Boer. Seriously, play them all together and see what happens. Shake things up. Do something that no other AFL team has done before. Add Spurr, Ibbotson and MJ down back and Mayne, Walters and Ballantyne up forward, and you have possibly the most devastatingly mobile and fit team ever to grace a footy field. Play to your strengths.

Assuming Pavlich retires -

FB- Spurr Dawson Silvagni
HB- Ibbotson Johnson Sutcliffe
C- Bennell Neale Hill
HF- Walters A Pearce Mayne
F- Griffin Taberner Ballantyne

C- Sandilands Fyfe Mundy

Int- Sheridan Crozier Barlow + one of Blakely/Langdon/Weller based on their form through the pre-season.

Just a thought

Not sure if this was also raised, but what is the minimum number of players allowed on the primary (senior) list? At the moment Fremantle has 35 players, with 3 Rookies.
Fairly sure, reading somewhere, that minimum is 38 with 7 rookies or max 40 allowed on the senior list.

Don't be thinking it hasn't been discussed. There will not be a rock that hasn't been picked up examined and put on its back.
Ross and the club have made no secret of the fact that they are recruiting and training to increase flexibility/versatility in the list and the team. They have it identified as a useful or necessary developing strength and something we can capitalise on.
We won't even need a ruck anyway 'cos Harley and the rest of our juggernaut mids will just swoop on opposition ruck's pill.
Frees Sandi to be trialed as a small crumbing forward which will catch many unawares.

Apparently they are making a decision on Morabito next week. If he stays on the list it would suggest he can get out on the park next year.
Could be a smokie to play as a forward. He showed creativity around goals in his debut season. Big lad and knows how to find the footy.
Long shot but its possible (please let it be so).
Other than that I think we have to play Fyfe and A Pearce as our main tall forwards. Taberner will obviously be tried and Apeness might get a turn once he's fit.

Fyfe and A Pearce are our best avenue forward. Apeness's season is already behind the eight ball and Taberner doesn't look as likely as A Pearce at the moment. Just get these two training together and see what happens.

Its quite an exciting prospect. Fyfe is obviously a superb player and Pearce is loaded with potential. They could form a really exciting pairing with Walters and Balla around to keep it interesting.
What I like about it is they are both such smart players and natural footballers. They could really feed off each other.

It is. It wouldn't even feel like a cobbled together forward line. There is a great mix of aggression and ability between the two of them.

I actually disagree. I know Tabs is frustrating, but I saw signs in the port game that he could be really good. I also think Alex is a backman predominantly.
Pearce just has the single-minded, bloodless aspect to this game that we're sorely lacking in our forwards. Tabs can keep developing, but Alex has usurped his spot in my book.

And he's smart! He and Fyfe could really feed off each other and build an aggressive, canny mix that would be hard to stop. Get Morabito on the same line and all of a sudden its a pretty impressive forward setup.

It'd be a handful. Pearce and Fyfe both love to compete. Add Bennell into that forward line and our problems are much reduced. I think we can work around Alex not being in the backline, and I think we could go deeper into the season with him in the forward line.

Natural backmen like A Pearce are extremely rare.

Look what Hird did to Carlisle.

Then look how easily Pearce reads the ball coming to him, his positioning and his vision.

He's a CHB guys.
Some guys are good enough to play both ends.
I don't disagree with your assessment, he is a natural CHB and if we had another prospect with even half his talent to try down forward I wouldn't even think about it. But we aren't exactly spoiled for choice and I thought he showed enough in the time he did play forward this year to give him a bit more time up there.
Plus I just love the idea of him paired with Fyfe as they are both so smart, gifted and aggressive.
It would be nice to give him a good apprenticeship at CHB though.

Yeah, that's all great.

Except Luke McPharlin retired this year and, you know, those sort of guys are pretty difficult to replace.
