just the standard scripted answer that all the suns players are using in all their brownlow interviews. Gaz also said he has a meeting with the board next week.

Not the standard script answer at all in my opinion.

To openly endorse the development of the players (which he wasn't asked about) and say that Bluey is a very good Coach goes far and beyond what the standard media-trained answer was there.
 
Mike Whiting is right. It was weird hearing him so firm about it. Little doubt in my mind that he'll throw in his support whole heartedly behind Bluey. Unless something is revealed to him by the Board that surprises him (unlikely), it sounds like he's going to back his Coach.

The Bomber comparison there is interesting too.

Gazza has given Bluey the seal of approval which is good news for McKenna and his supporters
What confuses me is why did it take him so long ??
This issue hasn't just popped up. Speculation around McKenna's job has been going on for some time now.
Why wait until the middle of a full scale review to back McKenna.
Also if Gazza really wanted to support the coach he should stop stuffing the club around and sign.
That will enable the Football Dept to recruit, draft, trade players and extend existing players contracts.

Agree with this, Gary is driven to succeed and as such wouldn't endorse someone he didn't think had the quality to take the club all the way.
He could of said
  • Review is under way and it is a football dept matter
  • Wants to concentrate on his rehab etc
But he didn't, Bluey will be coach next year.
 
To be honest, I didn't come away after the Brownlow interview re: Bluey thinking any different from how I did prior. He didn't answer immediately, had a few 'um' and 'uh' moments, and used "I think, yeah, um, I think so" a few times. Didn't see very genuine, imo. I have no idea what other 'scandals' this could equate to, but I'd be interested to see an interview with Gary and compare his response with what actually eventuated.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for backing Bluey, but it sounded to me like Gary hadn't quite made up his mind but didn't want to be 'that guy' that disrespects his coach. Bluey is still the Suns' coach, and deserves respect from all players publicly regardless of how this review is going to turn out. If Gary said anything different from what he did, I'd be shocked. He said he's got a meeting with the board in 'a few days' - that's when the decision is going to be made.
 
i think it strange that Marcus Ashcroft has to review the football department, yet he is part of the football department. makes me think that the board have made up their mind they just need someone on the inside to agree with them

Body language. Very hard to hide. (I suggest someone finds the interview and posts it here, it was hard to perceive but it looked that way to me)
 
I think we're trying to read too much into body language and word selection.. Leigh Matthews summed it up well from the outside it seems he doesn't deserved to get sacked but we dont know what happens in the inner sanctum. Point is, we dont know shit and wont know until the review comes to light. Just hope we get an answer sooner rather then later so our coach can have a shot at having a successful offseason
