Bluey's face on the front and back page of the GC Bulletin today. As someone already mentioned, a bit of a blow to the NRL to have the AFL getting most of the exposure today given it's their Grand Final week. I don't think it was strategic though.

What I think we know today is that sacking McKenna wasn't about having a new coach waiting in the wings
It was about Bluey and his failings and the consensus from the Club that he wasn't good for us anymore
That's pretty clear in the wash-up
I don't really see parallels with Voss/Lions, because it seems that was about conflict with the Board
This was about us being in danger of losing our players at their next contract if he stayed and also about our meek capitulation in the last part of season 2014 without GAJ

can he coach GC when infraction notices lob....? hahaha its a greek tragedy....ive tears in my eyes.....laughing!

He can do whatever tigernova, just not at Essendon. Bomber has stated previously that if infractions are given, he would step down. So why take Hird's "job" just so he can stand down, he'll probably take the Suns jobs (if any).

Thanks for that...but god I hope not.

Mark Thompson: poised to take over. Photo: Getty Images
GOLD COAST SUNS
Favourite - Mark Thompson
All the pieces seem to be falling into place. Guy McKenna is gone and Mark Thompson pointedly changed his position on Monday by saying there was a possibility he would leave Essendon. The Suns have said that "announcements" will be made in the coming week. Thompson also has a proven track record at Geelong for nurturing a large group of talented players entering their prime together, and then taking that core group to a premiership. His time at the Bombers this season not only re-energised his passion for coaching, but reminded the industry of his unique qualities as a head coach.

Bolton held in high regard at the Crows. Sacked an astute coach just to look to land this young genius.

Understood to have presented a case to Mark Ricciuto and the Crows' coaching panel, and was advised by Alastair Clarkson through the process. Was little-known until Clarkson trusted him with Hawthorn for five weeks while the senior coach battled an illness, and Bolton aced a very public audition. His regular role at the Hawks is forward-line coach and overseeing training procedures. Was unanimously endorsed as Clarkson's fill-in by the players. Has experience coaching his own team at Box Hill, a quality Clarkson and other astute judges think is essential.

ESSENDON are today likely to sack coach James Hird and make an 11th-hour bid to regain Mark Thompson, keeping him from accepting the vacant Gold Coast head coaching position.
On learning of reinstated coach Hird’s decision to start appeal proceedings against last month’s Federal Court finding validating the joint AFL-ASADA probe, Essendon called a specially convened board meeting today.
That could lead to Hird’s dismissal and the offer of an immediate appointment to the senior coaching position for Thompson.
Hird’s contracted two-year position was placed in jeopardy because of the Bombers’ contrasting action yesterday in deciding not to appeal against the verdict in favour of ASADA, allowing 34 show-cause notices to current and former players to proceed.
The Essendon board last night considered Hird to be going in a different direction to the club, with his future in limbo.
If Hird is sacked, the Bombers will be hoping that Thompson accepts the senior job with Mark Harvey as his senior assistant after the former Fremantle coach was appointed last week to a coaching role by the board.
Speaking at Essendon’s Crichton Medal last night, Thompson said he had not spoken to the Suns.
But Thompson, who received a standing ovation from the Essendon members and fans, said he would not accept an offer to work at the Bombers in any position other than as senior coach.
“The thing I am struggling with at the moment is taking a step back,” he said. “I don’t really want to (leave). I am not saying I’m not.
“I do love this football club. I love the players and I want them to do really well, but I can’t do a job … that doesn’t really fill the need. You don’t go backwards in this world.”
Thompson, about to go on holidays, said it could be as long as two weeks before he made a decision.
Thompson praised Essendon chairman Little, who did not mention Hird in an earlier address.
Little said later: “I can also say we are in discussions with Bomber and hope to work out his role in the very near future.”
Earlier yesterday, Thompson was almost certain to take control of one of the competition’s most exciting lists following Guy McKenna’s axing by the Suns.
On the same day that Hawthorn assistant coach Brendon Bolton was in Adelaide being interviewed for the vacant Crows senior coaching position, McKenna was dismissed with a year still to run on his contract.
The Australian’s exclusive report last month that McKenna had coached his final game for the Suns was confirmed yesterday by club chairman John Witheriff. Despite denying they have spoken directly to Thompson, the Suns were expecting to announce that this year’s Essendon caretaker coach — a multiple premiership coach at Geelong — will be the club’s next senior coach.
The Australian believes the AFL has been aware of Gold Coast’s behind-the-scenes movements over the past month and had endorsed Thompson, who was fined $30,000 by the league last year for his role in the Bombers’ supplements scandal.
Thompson said on Tuesday that he was aware of the Gold Coast interest in him.
“I’ve been told (they) are coming,” he said. “I haven’t acted on it but that’s what’s happening.”
Asked if he would coach a third club, and in particular Gold Coast, he said: “If you’re going to coach again, that would be the club you would look at. There’s a lot of upside there.”

Vossy continued to retweet about the situation last night. His latest photo on Twitter shows he is still living in Brisbane (Coorparoo) so you'd think he would at least listen to an offer from the Suns.

If EFC sacks Hird and offers Bomber the job, you'd imagine he'd take it with Hird's blessing
It's difficult to read Hird because he seems so self obsessed, but it's hard to imagine him standing in the way of Thompson keeping the job while he goes jousting at windmills in the High Court or wherever

True story. just hung up....

Rang the suns."theres no one here from the coaching staff they are all on holidays...". "what, you just sacked your coach, are looking for another and no one is in the office"? .......üm, well, someone might be in later, im not sure. Would you like them to contact you when someone gets in?" "yes that's would be fine. ...........thank you.
