I'm not going to judge the board for not going after Bomber if they don't, because he is getting older, and it might be better to find our own Bomber like Geelong did in 2000. But if the next guy sucks, and Bomber ends up pushing Essendon into finals contention again, it's gonna be real disappointing that we passed on an opportunity to go after a proven commodity right as some of our young guns are starting to come into their prime.

A constant in The Suns play book is to look to handball when there is no need to. So much so that I feel it is the coaches edict to make them handball when they could kick in the open with time and space. To me there are so many times the guys cough up the ball from a play where they are not under direct pressure because they handball to a team mate who IS under pressure - Swallow and Harbrow are two who don't folow this pattern though
Ah gotcha! Yeah I think you'll find that's because when players look up coming out of the backline/going through the middle, there's nothing there! Our forwards have to push up and defend, meaning we have no one to kick to, meaning we look for that handball to but some time and inadvertently put other players under the pump. So yeah, it's a forward line issue I think.

Disagree, I think it's defence related. We. Have had such a focus to defend, retain possession. Turnovers are coach killers, so the last thing instructed is to blaze forward with no skill under pressure.

Yeah I think it's a bit of both. I think both happens. We have no forwards to kick to. We also try and keep posession when it's implausible to do so. I honestly reckon if we fixed our forward setup this would sort itself out though.

I saw that! Huge coup for the Sharks.

Interesting that Bock is suddenly Head Coach with no experience whatsoever. I wonder if we'll bring him back like we did Fraser? Very well liked in the group and really developed Rory and May to be the players they are today.

we might have set it something up... told him to go coach for a couple of years and come back into club as development or assistant coach.

Essendon to decide on James Hird’s future at afternoon board meeting

EMBATTLED Essendon coach James Hird retains the support of some club directors and senior players ahead of a crucial board meeting this afternoon.

Chairman Paul Little and Essendon board members will discuss Hird’s decision to continue legal action against ASADA and its impact on the issuing of 34 show cause notices against players.

The club could make a decision today or take more time to weigh up whether Hird is best dealt with as an employee, rather than an ex-coach with no restrictions on his next move.

Some at Essendon are also believed to have cooled on the idea of Mark Thompson taking Hird’s position as senior coach should Hird be removed, limiting their coaching options.

Thompson flew overseas last week as turmoil engulfed the Bombers and the Gold Coast Suns also entered the market for the services of the two-time Geelong premiership coach.

Hird and his lawyers will return to the Federal Court on Thursday to try to get their appeal expedited.

Club directors remain hopeful Hird may drop the action but the Hird camp is determined to push ahead.

Senior players are believed to have told the club they want Hird as coach next year, but those same players have also told him to drop his court action.

The AFL has made it clear it wants the entire saga wrapped up and any penalties handed out to players before the start of next season.

ASADA is still assessing whether to push ahead with new show cause notices for 34 current and former players immediately or respect the Hird appeal process.

Hird and his lawyers have made it clear they wouldn’t stand in the way of any immediate action from ASADA.

The Herald Sun yesterday revealed the full-cost of the supplements scandal for the Bombers, including fines, legal action and a payout to former fitness boss Dean Robinson was beyond $6 million.

A payout to Hird should his two-year contract be terminated could send that figure soaring past $8 million.

Gee, wonder why they've 'cooled' on Bomber all of a sudden?

It's understood Hird's advice is that he could launch a contempt of court action against the club, on the premise that it is wrong to threaten to sack an employee for pursuing his or her legal rights.

Essendon chairman Paul Little has said he had wished Hird had not appealed.

A lawyer not involved in the case believes a contempt of court action would be "unusual but a serious allegation". Another lawyer suggested Hird could be better off pursuing an "adverse action" under the Fair Work Act.

It getting messier everyday. Wouldnt be surprised if the Board keeps Hird simply because their hands are tied.

HAWTHORN assistant coach Brendon Bolton will meet with Adelaide at midday on Sunday to make his final presentation to the board in a bid to secure the Crows' senior coaching role.

AFL.com.au understands that Bolton is among the final three candidates for the top job at the Crows following the axing of Brenton Sanderson just over a fortnight ago.

Port Adelaide assistant Phil Walsh and former Hawthorn premiership player and current Sydney Swans assistant coach Stewart Dew are also in contention.

Bolton coached five senior games for the 2014 premiers in the absence of Alastair Clarkson who was diagnosed with a rare condition called Guillane-Barre syndrome in late May.

He has a 100 per cent record, winning all five of those games.

The former North Hobart captain-coach met with the Crows board for his first interview on Wednesday following the Hawks' Grand Final victory against the Swans.

Are you serious? Lynch and Dixon don't lead? :/
Yep, I often watch them prior to a forward 50 entry and they are waving the ball back or dropping back ONTO their opponents, they don't lead like a Buddy or Riewoldt or Kennedy. I love them both as players and especially give Lynch massive props for transforming himself this year from a gangly clumsy player into a power forward, amazing BUT they have a long way to go to make themselves constant open targets at the right time.
