I mentioned Eade a week or so ago and got shot down.... this guy took the Bulldogs to where they haven't been for 35 years and then he took on a cellar dwelling Swans into finals very quickly. Still deeply involved in footy at Collingwood, thus not out of touch.... IMO, hes the bloke we need.

Good luck.....you will need it.

No he is not!!! The Bulldogs ongoing saga is a relic of the culture under Eade.
Don't blame the Bulldogs culture on Eade when he was coach, The Bulldogs have been a different culture compared to other clubs since the 1970s and many a coach that coached them found it more then hard yakka. Yes, finances have been tough for the club, but it has the culture of a western suburbs type supporter base. The Scraggers, is their nickname and you know why.
What EADE. achieved in his tenure with the club, was the best result the club has had since their 1961 flag. I mean he got them to prelim. finals and they lost one of these by 7 points to St.Kilda. He took on the coaching job where the Bulldogs hadn't played finals for quite a few years, and since he has departed, they haven't played finals either. Now this has to be proof that the guy can coach, ( not to mention his success at the Swans) .
Yes I hear the talk about his faults, with him being very upfront and in the face, but nobody is perfect.
How quickly one forgets..... how the Bulldogs as a club and their supporters where all over him because of his results.

I don't think today's footballers would be able to handle Eade.

Agree, if Eade was to coach like he did all those years ago. With him still being involved at a major level in the AFL, one would think he has the intelligence that coaching is a little different these days. Iam sure a guy of his experience would be aware of this and would make adjustments to compliment todays way of coaching to some degree. He has a great footy brain, and has always been a excellent ambassador .
But word is he is not interested in becoming a senior coach again, then again, we have all heard that before.

So many people saying that coaching is different 'these days' and that the 'kids need to be cuddled' etc. You realise that guys like Eade were Senior coach merely 6-7 years ago? And are still involved in football in a coaching capacity? And that a lot of players guys like Eade coached are still playing?

I don't buy into this 'gen x sooks' crap. I just think that players these days (rightly or wrongly) realise that they have much more power, and feel comfortable dictating to their clubs. I think if you want to prod the players as a coach, you need to have a reputation, an aura, so they'll fall into line. That's all it is.

I agree with you to some extent, but I think the kids are a smarter bunch than they were 20 years ago. The personality, and character checks are so much more rigorous than they once were, and its created a bunch of kids that are switched on, and taught and encouraged to be leaders. They can see through weakness or bad ideas etc. Look at the modern successful coach. Paul roos ,Clarko etc. They are smart switched on guys who surround themselves with good help.

Like K Packer once famously said, 'im not the smartest guy in my business, I hire the smartest guys. That's the way the Suns need to look at this. Pick the smartest and make sure he is surrounded by the best they can get. Innovation, imagination, sports psychology are all part of what the head coach requires. Bolton is just such a neat fit. He will require support, I t is the Suns job to ensure he gets it.

That's where Bluey fell down, it was his own job implement Innovation, imagination, sports psychology. It was the critical area of psychology that became his undoing. It is the coach alone, it is he that must bring it. He failed at it time and again. Innovation and imagination you can get from a brain storming session round the table. But for a coach to say the right thing, to speak to the subconscious and have the players buy in to what he is saying is the most critical part of a coaches job. Bolton has proven he can do that with the new, young well selected kids that the AFL now demand..

The Bombers must have unearthed a huge gold deposit when excavating land out at Tullamarine.

Would Sheedy really leave his GWS position to come back to Essendon after all that's happened? Doubt it.

Listening to the Malceski interview, when he was asked about the effect not knowing the coach had on his decision he replied that he'd seen the criteria and wasn't concerned because either an experienced coach or one with no senior experience could fill the role well. I found that very interesting. Looks like we're just after the best person for the job. Having senior experience is no advantage.

Nothing just yet.. They couldnt confirm which team or anything about it.. Just that something is coming.. It'll b all over the net and trade radio not just on SEN im sure
