Hawthorns assistant coach , Bolton.
Have a look..... the review is just after the grand final... why wasn't it pencilled in before the GF, maybe because the new coach is still involved in the current season.
Bolton did very well in the few games he took over as head coach whilst Clarkson was ill.
Bolton has been around Hawthorn long enough now and has learnt the front and backroom culture of the club, which is a proven business plan at Hawthorn.
This has been going on at Hawthorn for many years,,,,and because of this culture, many of their ex players have become extremely good coaches at AFL level. eg, Matthews, Eade,Wallace, Clarkson,Ayers to name a few.
Guys, I don't have a clue if Bluey will be sacked, and if he is sacked , I don't have a clue who would be his successor..... All Im doing is looking at a scenario here that represents a guess.

I see bolton as nothing more then a development coach.. in which case blueys development stacks up well enough to remain. Any replacement would have to be of the elite, premiership commanding variety
I disagree with this. There are examples all amongst the clubs over the years where this formula is not the correct one..... eg Malthouse to Carlton.Hird and Bomber at Essendon, Lyon at both St.Kilda and Freo and Worsfold over the past few seasons. They haven't been unsuccessful, but haven't achieved the ultimate at their new clubs as coach.( yes Worsfold not at a new club)
On the other hand , look at say Hinkley at Port Adelaide,Scott at the Kangaroos, Hardwick at Richmond,, even Leppa at the Lions and Simpson at West Coast, achieved big improvement in their results over the past season or two.A club needs a head coach that is like these new era of coaches, not a ex premiership coach from a number of years ago. ( exceptions here are Longmire, Clarkson ,Scott(Geelong) and maybe Roos whom must adjust his game , plan to the way todays footy is played , not the way he won a flag with the Swans with his defensive, press type footy resulting in boring , scrappy low scoring games, and Lyon has done the same and lost in 3 GF,s.
From all reports, Bolton ( Hawthorn) is highly respected for his footy brain and looked upon as a prospective head coach in the future.

Also, I think Bluey has done a ok job . I mean, what a challenge he had to take on a new club in the AFL comp.Problem that is presenting now, is that a lot of our young players are now at 50 games plus and our results are not growing to the game experience gained here. Bluey seems to be missing the ability to implement game plans that will see us win more games as the players grow experience with game time. I think it is in this area that the board has recognized this deficiency .

There is little doubt many of our guys fail to hit a target and I don't care how fit you are you will look slow if you are chasing all day. Our skills need some serious work

Could do worse than get Akermanis as skills coach. Queenslander looking for work. People say D. Jarman was the best kick, couldn't tell if he was right or left footed, but Acker was just as good and he was kicking at top speed. I'm still concerned about Primus as our midfield coach and Fraser coaching the reserves. Oh to have Hinkley and Harty back.

Interesting. What would he cost us? Can he just turn up for weekly payments like in the NRL of need he fit in the cap? Another experienced head amongst the boys would be great IMO.

As far as a future coaching role goes, that remains the judgement of other people of his qualities as a person etc. I cant comment on that as I don't know the bloke or much about him.

But I do think a few guys at that age a good around a club, and lets face it, we haven't any. Perhaps that's part of the added preasure on Bluey? No senior players to aid him on field?

Which is what I would have expected from an executive building a club from scratch with a mob of kids and not much experience on the field or around the club. Instead they chose a novice! Who they choose next will be a nonsensical surprise, if history is anything to go by.

Clarkson is contracted with the Hawks until the end of 2016. He extended his contract only earlier this year.

Wouldn't make sense for him to leave.
Exactly the same rumour happened last season before the GF, and that was Clarko to coach the West Coast, after the eagles and coach Worsfold departed.

Herald sun Melbourne
Jon Ralph article.. Can't find it online
"Axe looms for McKenna as Hawks brace for raid"

Guy McKenna is in his last days of coach as Hawthorn prepares for their coaching team to be raided as early as Monday.
Suns football boss Marcus Ashcroft will lodge his coaching review to the Gold Coast board early next week, which is expected to see McKenna removed by the club.
Ashcroft has again interviewed the Suns leadership group and department heads Steven Schwerdt, Scott Clayton and Simon Fletcher.
The Suns are adamant they have not considered other coaches while they review McKenna .
But if he is removed Hawthorn assistants Brendon Bolton and Brett Ratten and potentially even back line coach Luke Beveridge could come into the frame.
Gold Coast denies it has an exit Claus for McKenna related to a deadline on Tuesday.
But it is believed if he was sacked with a year to go on his contract, the Suns would not be required to pay him a full years salary.
The suns might only need to pay him as little as 200k
If Gold Coast allows Mckenna to coach next year and then sacks him they will have been seen to have wasted a year.
The Suns will need to play finals in 2015 to meet expectations.

All will be known soon!!! Glad once it's over.. 1 way or another...
Now I know how Essendon feels haha.. Only been 2 weeks.. :(

If McKenna does get sacked I think it would be wise he was just their like Kevin sheedy, john Cahill and Graham cornes just to build the club but not to take them to a premiership

damian barrett on triple m footy has said the findings from the review will be handed down on tuesday his mail is saying guy mckenna is gone. marcus ashcroft and a few other suns higher ups have been in Melbourne for about a week now. said to make of that what you will (interviewing potential new coach)

james brayshaw think it would be a huge mistake to sack him thinks theres much deeper issues in the coaching department and football department

Wonder if the AFL have any input in finding a new coach..
They can't allow us to fail up in QLD after such a strong start to the club
They owe us after pinching our CEO 12 weeks ago
I'd be surprised if the decision isn't run through head office before it is announced. I'd imagine the AFL would be keeping a very close eye on developments.

Candidates that have been mentioned (if Bluey goes): Brendan Bolton (Haw), Stuart Dew (Syd), Brett Ratten (Haw). 100% Bomber WILL be at the EFC next year..Period! And for the peeps who mentioned S.Watters..ARE YOU COMPLETELY INSANE! lols.....He is a pathetic AFL coach...IMO Bolton or Dew would be Brilliant with our youngISH list.....Cheers

what makes you think bomber thompson will stay with essendon ?
Come october 1st bomber Thompson is free to go where ever he wants. He hasn't signed a contract extension with essendon. He has also gone on record saying he's got the fire back and wants to be a head coach again.

I'd be pretty confident that he'll stay there too. No doubt the club will dump Hird in the off-season, and will throw all their money at Bomber to stay.
