I absolutely agree. There is no way we will replace an untried coach with another untried coach. This Bomber Thompson saga has been brewing for the past few weeks and played a large part in the review occurring in the first place. The belief that they could get Bomber. I would consider it very likely he will coach up here next year.

The Hawthorn assistant coach stepped in to the senior role early this year when Alistair Clarkson was struck down with injury and led Hawthorn to four wins from four games. While managing the media in a brilliant and refreshing way he also handled the absence of several key players and kept Hawthorn going strong.
Having coached at the Hawk’s affiliate Box Hill and in the Tasmanian League where he won a premiership as a player-coach aged just 24, Bolton is on the up.
At Box Hill he is credited with ‘creating a positive environment so that AFL players actually enjoyed playing there according to Box Hill President John Ure. He is further credited with taking the side to the finals in 2009 and 2010 before he really impressed Hawthorn and became their midfield coach.
The man with the megawatt smile has the makings of a brilliant senior coach and wouldn’t look out of place coaching his own team in the near future.
His is said to have a team first philosophy similar to that of Paul Roos but favours faster ball movement. Although an outside chance and perhaps unlikely to leave such a successful team like Hawthorn, the Senior assistant role really would set Bolton up beautifully for the job.

Buddy was going to GWS and Roos was never going to coach again. Then he was going to the Lions and the Deees endied up with him... Now he has signed contract (2?) with the Dees! Theres no guarantees.

Everyone seems to have forgotton GAJ and Bomber don't see eye to eye? How does that work out in a few months..?:rolleyes:

But GAJ has stated before that he has been ready to put things behind, Bomber was the one making the fuss. If Bomber reached out then GAJ would accept the apology

that's the most likely scenario. As much as I d like Bolton. Perhaps they can get them both, with Bolton the assistant.

It would be most likely if they were to go down that way, they would probably get Sando. Not saying that Bolton's a bad idea, just they'll go a different way then one expects.

Stuart Dew
The Swans' strategy and midfield coach is the bookies' favourite – among the untried coaches – for the Adelaide job. Paul Roos' attempts to secure him last year for the Melbourne job (now filled by Simon Goodwin) are viewed as an excellent endorsement of his value. Regarded for his delivery of messages to players and gameday insights.


Brendon Bolton

That Alastair Clarkson trusted him with Hawthorn this year is a huge tick of approval. Little-known before this season, the Hawks assistant and former Box Hill coach had the rare opportunity to prove he could manage his own team and a team of coaches in the five games Clarkson missed through illness. He was praised every step of the way and says he is ready to coach.


Brett Ratten
Has spent two seasons studying how the best in the business, Hawthorn, runs a daily program. Took the key role of "stoppage coach" at the Hawks after six years as senior coach at Carlton where he finished with a 51 per cent winning record. Not having the pressure of being a "Blue Boy" would help his cause.


Mark Bickley
The romantic option for the Crows, being a two-time premiership captain. The theory that "non-Adelaide people" or "outsiders" don't get cut much slack would not be an issue for Bickley. Perhaps the most likely of the Crows' assistants.


Scott Burns
Was overlooked fwhen Brenton Sanderson was appointed in 2012. Moved to Collingwood to become midfield coach this year after working at West Coast since 2009. Missed out on a promotion at the Eagles when John Worsfold moved on, but as Ken Hinkley and Alan Richardson proved, if you bang on the door enough times, eventually it might open.


Leigh Tudor
Another assistant with an extensive and varied apprenticeship. His luring to North Melbourne this year from Sydney, and also having spent time at St Kilda under Ross Lyon, was seen as a major positive for the Roos. Took charge of the midfield, an area of the ground where a number of the Roos' middle tier players took a step forward in their development.


Peter Sumich
Maybe one for those who subscribe to the Hinkley-Richardson "pay-your dues" theory. Has been over-looked for several jobs, including former club West Coast which left him "gutted". Now learning under Lyon at Fremantle. Still has the desire to take a top job somewhere.

Mark Thompson
Still yet to work out his role at Essendon, and has been linked to Gold Coast, but was upset with the way Sanderson's sacking was handled and says he would never take the job.


Michael Voss
Put his coaching skills back in the public eye in his role as the coach of the reality TV series The Recruit but says, at least for now, there is "no way" he would coach or even be involved at a club next season.


John Worsfold
As soon as the Crows said they were looking for a premiership coach, the media rushed to canvass his interest in getting back into the game. Responded by saying "definitely not in the next 12 months".

Theres no point talking other canditates , if Bluey goes Bomber will coach , simple.

Its a tough gig. He done fine, just didn't have the sports psych ready, or down pat when he needed it.

Good luck to him in the future. Im sure he has one. As a millionaire living on the GC, im sure he can find somewhere or has somewhere and someone to get over the disappointment.

Im going wild card here. I don't think its Bomber. Im not saying Bolton either, but I would rather him. It will either be both or a wild card.

If we look at time frames, it was when Bluey failed to get the team winning this seasons end without GAJ that started this I believe. That and previous failures without GAJ.

The board understand the failed sport Psyc behind it. I recon they will place great importance on the sport psyc of their next coach and his closest advisors. I really believe Bolton needs to be there.....somewhere, and I believe the executive does also.

People say he was given a dream list. Not true, he was given the toughest gig in footy - a bunch of kids with one star and a few honest toilers.
