Dear, sir, MS, or however you like it..

coached the cannon hill saints u7s to 4 premierships. I was 4 years older by then.
im pretty good at talking to kids as I often post on big footy.
I have seen Gary Ablett jr in person and have a signed SUNS guernesy. Its my sons actually. but you know that's important.
I yell really load at games, even louder than the old Collingwood ladies up the front near the fence.
I own about 7 sherrin footys.
I only get gout once a month, but my eldest daughter can fill in for me.

Sunny_, were you aware our coaching staff and admin are on holidays and not meeting at the club? They cant be reached there!!!!!

You're all giving the Board zero credibility. They would not have acted the way they did had they not been assured that Bomber Thompson would coach next year.

rubbish. anything could have happened with EFC asada etc. it could would and did blow up in their faces. they should have been aware of that and known there were no guarantees with bomber....who walked out of geelong with an excuse. our board should be ducking for cover....which I guess they are. from their palaces on holidays...

Let's pro and con this from Bombers perspective
Pro's for Essendon
He is a club captain and premiership player, loves the club, is currently at the club and likely to be offered the head role, they have fantastic facilities, a massive war chest and membership base, multiple media opportunities to make extra coin eg his spot on AFL 360

cons for Essendon
ASADA is going to smash them, an element of the club will hate him for undermining the golden child that is Hird,

Pros for GC
Outstanding list that is maturing, get out of the ASADA mess and the Melbourne bubble that is AFL,

cons for GC
Shit facilities ( for the next couple of years at least) no MD, CEO is not a football person and can barely put a sentence together, club is not self sufficient $$$$$, has to move interstate

If I was him I would be stating, gambling that the ASADA stuff just goes away, after all the AFL has to field 18 teams so Essendon will continue to filed a side regardless

You're probably right and they've most likely had the "3rd party" sounding out conversations. However the timing of the whole thing is bizarre. It has been reported for weeks now that Bluey was a dead duck yet they "part ways" the day before James Turd lodges his appeal and the same day Bomber has to get up in front of the club and give a speech about the clubs year and their / his future. It's the timing that is shite not the fact Bluey has been shown the door, because that has been on the cards for a while.

Bomber is what the club needs to move to a top four club IMO but if it's not him, other good quality coaches are out their who could improve the playing group and communicate better (as it appears was an issue) with the players.

If it's not Bomber then the sky won't be falling in and the Sunnies will still be better for this change regardless.

I think the main concern with waiting until this week to make a move is the FA and trade week. Uncertainty may effect players (eg. Malceski) signing for the club. Although looking at the playing list should be enough for them to still want to come.

so Bomber is officially out of the country. This is going to be a long few weeks image.jpg image.jpg

From sportsfan.com.au:

These guys on there boards are a blight on the game. Sacking coaches appears to be their only function in life. Gold Coast will play finals next year and probably ever year for the next 5 after that, the list is awesome. Bomber will end up at Essendon next year and this board will have to take a gamble with their future and appoint an unknown quantity and there is no way that is good for anyone.

And another from sportsfan.com.au:

Got to say the Mckenna's press conference showed his class. I wonder if James Hird will do the same when the axe falls. It must be obvious to everyone except James that he is not wanted.
I think Mckenna performed the same role as Barassi did with the swans. Both transformed clubs into what is needed for AFL clubs. He instilled a great deal of professionalism into what is a very talented but young & inexperienced playing group.
Sadly the inexperienced board want instant success and "winning a grand final within 5 years" is just ego talking and far removed from reality. Same ego that, I suspect, led to the demise of McKenna.
They may prove me wrong but unless they follow up with a coach like Roos they wont get there.
Lyons is about due to leave the Dockers. He may be available.
He has had the first year with an "almost" team, tried his defense at all cost strategy and found again it didn't work (again), added what players he thought he needed to win a flag, still didn't get there, tried to copy Geelong & Hawthorns style late in the season, but didn't have the right player mix depth. Time for him to move, just like moving from St Kilda. All the ground work has been done by McKenna (like it was done for him by Mark Harvey) so this would be a good fit.

Oh god no, not Ross Lyon. Every time he opens his mouth in a post match presser I feel compelled to head butt the TV. Obviously can coach, but a complete **** and a very negative/ defensive style. The best thing about watching the Suns is their running, attack minded style which is so refreshing to see.

I know there is some love on here for Bolton but it would be a massive gamble, he is a forwards coach at a team with the best kicking midfield in the league. Apart from that he coached 5games at a club that could of coach itself
He was hawks midfield coach also at some point.
