EFC aren't giving Hird the support you are claiming. They are basically saying. piss off.

If EFC wanted Hird to piss off then they would of done it already. They don't want him to piss off at all but are under pressure from the AFL dictatorship to make him go away. I still would not be surprised to see him remain. Tim Watson even said on Sunrise this morning apparently, that the players want Hird as coach. As I said yesterday, non-Essendon people do not understand how much the guy is revered at Essendon.

If the club has criteria like successful in finals etc as they apparently told Bluey who else apart from Bomber is available, Worsfold is out. If they can't find one and settle for a rookie and he doesn't work out we may blow our premiership window. I have to believe the club or AFL has someone sewn up as if not this truely may be the destroying of the club
I see where you are coming from. What is our window with this group? 5 years? I doubt we will keep the next coach for 5 of them.....just win baby!

I think that, ever since they ditched Knights for no good reason other than club politics, Essendon culture has been on the nose. I think that's why clubs that hold strong against criticism succeed and those that fall prey to media speculation and underperformance and all that crap always fail. If I were an Essendon member, I would probably want the club to stick by Hird at all costs, to represent that solidarity the shit clubs always lack. I'm also hoping the McKenna sacking is not a sign of GCFC being one of those clubs with constant leadership changes and backstabbing bitches operating behind closed doors. Those clubs don't win shit. Just my 2 cents.

too messy with contracts, SADA muck ups etc. im sure EFC would be rid of Hird if they could, but Hird has a handful of cards, and probably a few aces...

Sorry to butt in ...

I hope you get a good coach ... hopefully you didn't just sack Bluey without anyone in mind ...

I think we all understand how much he is revered. It's why they continue to revere him is what others cannot fathom. He's the King Lemming and they are his faithful lemming subjects, and ....... here comes the cliff edge ...

Just like Micky 'Collingwood Forever' Malthouse, hey? If that bullshit artist has you under his spell why not give Hirdy a go?

Nah I think you'll find the jury is still out on Mick down at Princes Park given the teams performances over the last 2-years. He isn't David Parkin status to the supporters. Not even in the same stratosphere.

he is cleaning out.. it will take a year or 2 to get rid of the guys who arent on the same page.
he will get the guys he wants in then they will become good.
look at what he did at collingwood

Agree with this 100%. Was just pointing out that we won't be following him over the cliff like the Essendon* lemming are with Tird. At least until he delivers a premiership to the Blues, which doesn't look like anytime soon IMO.

it will take time.. i hate the teams that take the short cuts and offer all their good picks for short term solutions.
it just doesnt happen

Anyway, this is about the next Suns coach isn't it?
The game overtakes them. Coaches get old. When is too old? When the game has changed so much their experience isn't worth as much. I get that feelong with Malthouse, and Bomber.

Who is the oldest coach in the comp? Are the younger ones doing better? Hurd looks like a goodun, if he gets a gig again.

Is it worth the watch or is it just Barrett spurting shit again? I haven't seen any 'breaking news' come from the episode last night. Will give it a watch later anyway, cheers mate.
Nah, nothing new. Only that Caro reckons Bomber will go to Essendon, whereas Hutchy thinks if both jobs are presented Bomber will take the GC job. And the two #flogs go at each other while Hutchy and Wolfman watch on. Brilliant tribute to Robbie Flower also

The age factor only matters if the old dogs refuse to evolve with the game IMO.
Bomber did a very good job with an average list and a club constantly in turmoil. They should never have made finals and probably wouldn't have without him at the helm.
He has shown an ability to adapt his game plan to different player groups and get the best out of their skill/ability level.

Thompson brought in the innovative 'handball, run & gun' style when the Cats started dominating 8 years ago tigernova

So you're wrong in saying that he's an old style coach who's past it. He's very much an innovator and a forward thinker, who's not afraid to break new ground. I'd say his game plan could be roughly summarized as 'keep it simple, move the ball fast, break from defense, kick it out in front of your forwards'.

Who are the old dogs left?
How are they performing?
Who are the young brigade.
How are they performing?

The game has changed rapidly in 5 years. Bomber was a great coach. He may now be a good one. But I don't think he is the best, and he gets older as the game changes. Young coaches change the game. They are game changers. Bomber and Mick are now followers, reacting to change.

It depends what you want in a coach. I want a game changer. Not a reactionary..

Oh ..... then we must get Brendan Bolton.

Most clubs have opted for youth. Roos is a bit older, but he is Roos after all. Bolton may be the best of them. To understand how good he is you need to learn a bit about him, his time at the Hawks, what they have said about him, the responsibility they gave him in a time of need, their promotion of him from a non AFL playing background. But the most important thing, the thing that got hm there, is his ability to speak at a subconscious level. NLP and sports psyc. No one is as adept as Bolton in these areas in AFL. No one.

Anyway. will GAJ want Bomber..? truth? I doubt it. Bolton and GAJ work together seamlessly, I can see that.

Bomber and GAJ having a difference of opinion, I can see that also. If GAJ and Bomber fallout, the GCS will be a basket case, and a lot of us may become Lions.
