If Hird is staying, then it's a good chance that Bomber will make a formal bid for the Suns job. I like that, even if he doesn't get the job. At least we know that the team is really going to get their pick of whoever they want on the market. Lot of good options available who's only chance at a senior job would be with the Suns. Choose well!

i dont think he will apply for the job.. we will go after him, not the other way around

Story posted in this thread recently said the job wasn't his if he wanted it, and he'd have to apply for it just like anyone else. Really doesn't sound like the board is very interested in bringing him in, but at least we know he's there if they want him.

Howlett from Essendon saying he will go if Hird goes and stay if he stays, so there is a core of the board and players who still believe in Hird, which is great because it gives us the choice to choose or not choose Bomber, it is amazing how time of 48 hours has changed the positioning of this decision in our favour beautifully. I can only imagine that Bomber, Dew and Bolton are the main choices that would be in the running and they are all now having to zero in on us

His manager has already approached us about the job, prior to Bluey being sacked.
i think that was done to bait essendon into sacking hird..
telling essendon either make me coach or ill go somewhere else.

Possibly - hard to tell with Bomber. Could well have been hedging his bets.
I think he genuinely wanted to see offers from both clubs but he has to be sick of Essendon being wishy washy with Hird, he clearly doesn't want Hird at the club so he will be a strong front runner for The Suns unless Essendon backflip

I don't think this is a Game of Thrones level conspiracy. It's just Bomber's manager doing right by his client and looking at all potential coaching gigs. However, the fact he went to the Suns before there was any official word that Guy McKenna had been sacked is pretty indicative that the bloke has connections.

It doesn't sit right with me that we are 'second best'. We are the gig of a lifetime. No other club has our upside. We have the cattle, climate, beaches,......how the hell we come second to the basket casr that is Essendon in Bombers mind is mind blowing. Im ean, its not like he hasn't coached anywhere else and wants to remain a one club man.

In my mind we are second to none. We should be treated as second to none. Psycologically we are second best to Essendon in Bombers mind. There is something there that puts the Dons ubove us in his mind. It could be he doesn't want to leave his mates, the group he has, or too hard to move house, states, etc. But whatever it is, we are still second best in his eyes.

That to me is a dangerous beginning. In his mind , if he comes here, he is going to where he didn't want to go. He wants to be in Essendon, not Gold Coast. He is damaged mentally for us. We are second best. If he does come here its 'oh well'' it was second best.

Bolton has approached the Crows but that was on before we lost Bluey.

So? It's not like he's ok with losing. He'll give it his best wherever he goes. He played every game he ever played in the AFL with the dons. The team obviously means a lot to him. That doesn't mean if he went to the Gold Coast, he'd half ass it.

agree

In fact, I'd argue that wanting to show Essendon that they were fools for passing up on him would drive him more than some newbie desperate for a senior job slobbering all over the chance to coach the Suns. Give him a good chip on his shoulder.

second best....

He'd rather the crap going on down there, take a job he said wasn't his in 2015, go back on a promise to a mate, try and push Hurd out.

I think he's a grub personally. When he took on the coaching role at the Dons, he said all the right things, 'its only for a year'.....its Hurdys gig. When James comes back its his job im just looking after it for him till he gets back.

Now? scheming behind the scenes, announces he wants the job, etc, etc. Where is his loyalty? Ablett had a taste of Bombers character.

I was as excited as anyone about the prospect of Bomber a few days ago but now I have some real concerns
  • Bomber was worn out after his time at Geelong and as recent as a few months ago was saying he didn't want to coach any more, too hard on him and his family
  • We are clearly number 2 in his eyes
  • He seems unstable
  • The players at Essendon even after all that has happened STILL prefer Hird, WHY

My mail was he wasnt that potent and engaged when he DID coach at Geelong, spent a lot of his time touching up one of the office girls apparently. he is clearly no angel BUT has runs on the board so he is a risk.

  1. Bomber left because of internal issues at GFC. If you hate coaching, you don't go into an assistant position a week later.
  2. Possibly, but maybe not. He did say he was going to leave EFC at the end of the year, and to me, he got conned into 'revealing' more due to the crowd yelling things out. It seemed to me that he was going to give a brief speech about his position, but the crowd asking questions and yelling made Bomber get carried away. Who knows.
  3. That's just Bomber, he's weird as ****
  4. Most of the players were EFC fans as kids and saw Hird as their hero. Plus, if the players are as confident as the club is that they've done nothing wrong, why wouldn't you support Hird?
Just a different perspective on things!

Now that Hird is still engaged and Walsh is at The Crows the Suns management look like geniuses - they have all the strong candidates remaining vying for one job - time is an amazing thing in negotiations

maybe your right, who knows. The Board now has plenty of time to ensure they get the right guy
