maybe your right, who knows. The Board now has plenty of time to ensure they get the right guy
If you and I can see through Bomber, there is no doubt the GCFC can also.
  1. Bomber left because of internal issues at GFC. If you hate coaching, you don't go into an assistant position a week later.
  2. Possibly, but maybe not. He did say he was going to leave EFC at the end of the year, and to me, he got conned into 'revealing' more due to the crowd yelling things out. It seemed to me that he was going to give a brief speech about his position, but the crowd asking questions and yelling made Bomber get carried away. Who knows.
  3. That's just Bomber, he's weird as ****
  4. Most of the players were EFC fans as kids and saw Hird as their hero. Plus, if the players are as confident as the club is that they've done nothing wrong, why wouldn't you support Hird?
Just a different perspective on things!
1. That's not right. I posted an article on the history of all that rubbish and he didn't cover himself in glory, that's for sure. Especially where GAJ is concerned.

If Bomber is overseas for 2 weeks,....mate, that's not the place to be to put forward your case as coach, unless you already have a contract, and I doubt VERY much that is the case.

I remember a very uncomfortable moment on 360 this year.....

at the time ROOs had signed on for 1 or 2 seasons as coach after which he would move into an admin role. Gerard I think asked the question. "Bomber would you be interested in the Melbourne coaching position after Roosy steps aside.."? Bomber moved his hands uncomfortably on the desk, he moved his head from side to side for a pregnant moment, then looked over at Paul Roos.......

"Roos, you could tell, didn't want a bar of it. he started talking assistant coaches etc.. But It was a rejection, absolutely no doubt.

Loyalty - what Bomber Thompson said

MARK Thompson spoke passionately about loyalty in his former job as Geelong coach. Here's exactly what he said.
Thompson on loyalty
"Seven hundred people in this room heard Gary Ablett say the only reason he plays is to play in a premiership. So, Gary, you'd be more of a chance (here) than at the other mob that are offering all that money.''
- Mark Thompson at Geelong's 2010 season launch

"Nup. ''
- Thompson, when asked in May if he could understand why Gary Ablett would be torn about the offer to join Gold Coast.

"I love Joel Selwood and what he's been able to do. It's just all class and just integrity ... A lot of our players have stayed for the right reasons. Because they love playing together and they love playing (for) Geelong. They love playing footy together. That's me, too. That's what I love about team sports and what Geelong are doing at the moment.''

Others on Bomber
"He can give three months' notice and go wherever he wants. But it's not something I think will eventuate. The Bomber I know, he doesn't do these things.''
- Geelong chief executive Brian Cook in August

"I know if I was Essendon I would be trying my hardest to get him to do it, but I just can't see it. I just know that everything Mark Thompson has said doesn't give me any belief they'll be successful at that. He's a guy of very strong values and if he was thinking of making a move he would have approached us already.''
- Frank Costa after Geelong's preliminary final loss

"Mark Thompson's not going anywhere. He's told us he wants to have one more year at Geelong.''
- Costa again

"Mark will be the coach of the Geelong Football Club next year. There's nothing surer. He will not be leaving Geelong.''
- Cook after Geelong's preliminary final loss

CONTRARY to reports that the job is his if he wants it, Thompson will not be offered the post and should he chose to lodge an official application would still have a tough task to win over key figures at the club who do not see the two-time Geelong premiership coach as the ideal fit for the Suns;

GOLD Coast has drafted Malcolm Blight on to the selection panel for the new coach and is set to appoint interim chief executive Andrew Travis as its new boss this week.

It leaves former Bombers coach Mark Thompson at long odds to get the job.

ASSISTANT coach Mark Riley’s position is under threat;
THE Suns will follow a recruitment model produced by former Kangaroos’ great Glenn Archer’s management company Stride;
SKIPPER Gary Ablett was informed of the review’s findings and the recommendation McKenna be sacked in person by Marcus Ashcroft; and
ASHCROFT also informed the leadership group of David Swallow, Tom Lynch, Dion Prestia and Michael Rischitelli by phone on the day the decision was made public.

Travis confirmed Blight had been appointed to the selection committee and said he had complete confidence the panel had the right mix of experience in recruitment and football industry knowledge to find the ideal applicant.
“Directors Alan Mackenzie, the chairman of our football subcommittee and Tony Cochrane, who has an incredible amount of experience in significant recruitment decisions, in particular within elite sport during his time with the V8 Supercars, have been given the responsibility along with Marcus Ashcroft and myself, to identify our new coach,’’ Travis said.
“The panel was granted board permission to add another experienced football person to the panel and Malcolm Blight fits that category.

This was quoted a few pages back mate. Do keep up.

If I was a betting man, my money would be on Dew.

My list of preferences though:
Eade, Thompson, Burns, Voss, Ayres, Ratten, Dew, Bolton
I think that Bomber is still favorite. My preferences would be something like this:
1. Bomber/Bolton (Roos/Goodwin style) - Bomber is a hardened experienced coach, Bolton has had a taste at the highest level and made the final 2 of the Crows gig (tigernova what happens to our bet if we're both right?)
2. Ratten - Just for the fun of it. Still a good coach, made a mediocre side into a good side. Would join Primus as former coaches "poached" by the side lost to cause their sacking
3. Ayres - Forgotten about. Coached Port Melbourne to a premiership in the VFL in 2011, shows still able to move with the times.
4. Dew - Great footy brain, as a player turned the 2008 GF in 5 minutes. Has been "moved" around in his short coaching career. Was Opposition Coach in '09*, Defense Coach in 2010-11* then has "settled" in as Midfield Coach since 2012*
5. Bolton (coaching outright) - see above.

* Date may or may not be correct
Na, all depends.. Maguire coached the rabbitohs to 1 game away from a gf in.his.first and second year as coach and premiership first year.

Roosters coach first year premiership coach.
Geoff toovey also has coached grandfinal
Madge Maguire was an assistant at Melbourne, then left to coach a Super League side. Came back to coach the Rabbitohs, so not quite a first year coach as you first thought

I actually think Dew OR Bolton would suit our young team best, starting to think Bomber may not have the staying power or freshness of ideas to do a 5 year stint

I'm not sure that Bolton would leave Hawthorn to be second fiddle to Thompson. If it is a Roos/Goodwin situation where Bolton would assume the role after some time, we may have the same problem Essendon has now where Thompson does not want to step down.

I don't think Ayres has it to be honest. Any number of clubs could've picked him up between now and his last AFL gig and it just hasn't happened.

Dew has been thrown around as having a 'great footy brain' but I'm sure Bolton has a 'great footy brain' too. I don't consider Dews playing ability in a grand final to have any bearing on his potential as a coach.

The fact he has been at two clubs when they won a premiership and worked under Longmire at the Swans for three seasons when they are at the top of their game is a pretty darn good pedigree

Sure, but if we are making direct comparisons with Bolton, he has coached Box Hill to a relatively high winning percentage - and been an assistant at Hawthorn from 2011, while he has been in that role they have made three consecutive grand finals for two premierships. Obviously took the helm for a segment of this year as well. If it's Dew v Bolton I would pick Bolton every time.

Probably so, I dont argue either one over the other, Bolton also took North Hobart to a GF as a captain coach, I suspect Dew has a harder edge though due to his playing pedigree but Bolton maybe more cerebral, I am happy with either one

That is what separates us from the NRL....

2013 and 2014 certainly not among the best(AFL)
Maybe I feel a little differently from other Aussie rules fans. I love night games, and I love the 'Americanised' fireworks, cheerleaders, etc.

As much as 2pm on a Saturday is tradition, I'd much rather see a Saturday night GF with no expenses spared. That's just me though :P

If Bomber has hasn't already got the job, I still like Bolton,,,, is a breath of fresh air, and has had premiership success in tassy, but more importantly he now has the blueprint of the Hawthorn business plan and how they go about things both on field and off field. This knowledge would be invaluable to us.
Get Bolton as coach, and Dew as assistant coach , that wouldn't be a bad set up would it.?
Must re comment, Rodney Eade is a very well respected coach in AFL areas.... Any chance if he applied.?
Sanderson, well I would give him a big miss with his premature dismissal being one of a huge concern at the Crows.!!!

Plus, media attention is always good. If Bolton came up to the Suns, it'd bring with it more media spotlight throughout the year. Bolton is well liked in the AFL media haha
