Can't help but think we missed an opportunity with Voss going to Port, being a Qlder and champion footballer with Senior experience he would of been great for us in a similar role to the one he will play at Port

I'm starting to dislike Port ....again. Not only have they stolen two of our best coaches, now they're stealing our best prospective coaches!!!

It took a huge, huge sum of money to get Voss out of his media gig and to Port. And he was quoted in saying that he wanted to get back into the bubble of a footy state. Neither of which we can provide.

Just the way it is, unfortunately.
Voss was also enticed by the idea of learning under a good coach like Hinkley.

I love Bolton, and I myself once worried about him not playing at an elite level, but to be completely honest, being a good player and being a good coach is completely different.

The AFL has this weird obsession with getting ex-players as coaching, and more often than not, it doesn't work out. Some of the most successful NRL/NFL/Soccer coaches never played at the elite level, but they have the tactics and strategies to achieve success tucked away in their mind. In fact, all of these coaching greats played at the same comparable level as Bolton did, then coached their way up.

Similarly, the best commentators are the ones who aren't ex-players (Huddo, Dennis, and pre-2000's Bruce).

Good player doesn't make a good coach.

Bring on Bolton.

I would be so upset if we got Harvey. Do not rate him as a senior coach. Has god awful communication skills.

Agreed about communication, however I think he showed a bit at Freo.

I think though, the emphasis needs to be on communication skills. You can hire people to sort your tactics but we need a motivator. Not that Bolton's tactical nous would be bad anyway.

I want someone who understands what makes people tick. Very few AFL coaches are well schooled in this. I think Bolton is.

Brendan Bolton now a $3.00 favourite for the job.

Does anyone else get the feeling that Bolton is a bit of a simpleton? I just can't shake this perception.

Not at all. Actually quite literally the opposite. He is just excitable and that may give that impression. If you read some of the stuff he says he really knows his shit about successful organisations and people management.

They weren't stolen, they were identified.

when was the last time a sacked head coach got hired by another club? not talking not renewing a contract, i mean sacked midseason or part way through a contract.

I definitely associate positivity with being less intelligent. But that's probably a deeper intellectual debate for another day haha!

A lot of our good work to finish 5th in 2010 was allegedly down to Chris Scott who was an assistant. In 2011 he goes to Geelong and we miss finals. Besides Harvey looks certain to go back to Essendon in some capacity next year.

I definitely don't agree with that school of thought. Just because I have had some super intelligent mentors who are extremely positive and successful people. Each to their own I guess.
