head coach to assitant coach has happened a fair bit. mark harvey, ratten, voss, etc.
goes to show that no head coach has been sacked, then been appointed to another head coaching position. Others have ended contracts/resigned or headed into the media, eg Matthews, Blight, Malthouse, etc.
sack bluey.
bomber favourite. articles saying he's not in the running according to the board process?
dew favourite. rules himself out.
eade favourite. rules himself out.
voss? headed to port.

it's all coming together nicely.

when was the last time a sacked head coach got hired by another club? not talking not renewing a contract, i mean sacked midseason or part way through a contract.
And I've come up with one, Rodney Eade resigned with 10 games to go in 2002 (Roos took over as interim coach) and was appointed Dogs head coach in 2005

Trust in the admin. The AFL knows, the club knows, we are a step or two away from to playing top 4 footy for 5 seasons of finals. Together, the League and the club will attempt to deliver us a YOUNG bright coach to see us through it. And the support crew he and GAJ needs to support that campaign.

I don't talk other coaches. There aren't any others that fit.

Eade will get an interview. He does deserve one. Wild card.

I love Bolton, and I myself once worried about him not playing at an elite level, but to be completely honest, being a good player and being a good coach is completely different.

The AFL has this weird obsession with getting ex-players as coaching, and more often than not, it doesn't work out. Some of the most successful NRL/NFL/Soccer coaches never played at the elite level, but they have the tactics and strategies to achieve success tucked away in their mind. In fact, all of these coaching greats played at the same comparable level as Bolton did, then coached their way up.

Similarly, the best commentators are the ones who aren't ex-players (Huddo, Dennis, and pre-2000's Bruce).

Good player doesn't make a good coach.

Bring on Bolton.

So this is AFL, not any of those other codes.

Name the premiership coaches that haven't played at the top level?

There's a reason ex-players are the most popular. They know the game, flow, momentum of football at the highest level ...... and they win you premierships.

No, they're ex-player who have played a few at the highest level. Apart from Roos, name me a household-name player who has won a premiership in the past 20 years? Sheedy, Malthouse, Matthews, Blight and Roos.

Is there a third Scott brother? Perhaps a forgotten triplet? Worth a shot

Yes but how many non-AFL playing coaches have actually coached a decent list?

Geez TN a week ago you were having a stroke because you weren't being kept up to date with the process by 'the admin'.
You're a funny dude.

You've missed the point. I'm saying it doesn't have to be an ex-player in order to taste success. Just because someone's not a premiership winning captain back in their day shouldn't exclude them from being a good option.

As I said, there's a reason those who know much better than us make those decisions. It's not by accident.
I don't think clubs with a good list would take the gamble on it to be honest.

True. But you're missing my point. I went back 65 years and never found a non VFL/AFL player who coached a premiership. That's not opinion, it's just a fact.

I strongly disagree with your theory that non-AFL coaches cannot coach premierships. I think it's bullshit and the reason ex-champion players get gigs is often for aesthetic appeal and justification to members.

Your ignoring so many variables it isn't even funny.

And because of the "God" effect, ie Lions-Voss, Pies-Buckley, Dons-Hird, etc.

Neil Craig only ever played SANFL yet took Adelaide to a couple of prelims.
Thanks for supporting my point. When it counts ..... WINNING .... they haven't delivered the ultimate prize.

Will you guys be happy with 2nd ... 3rd ... 4th?

I've followed the Blues for 40 years and believe me, if you aren't 1st, you're nowhere.

Suns are approaching a premiership window and I for one would like to be in the crowd when they win it.
So get the best coach with the best probability of delivering a premiership, not a prelim final.

Essentially your saying that not playing in the AFL stopped Neil Craig from getting past a prelim... which is laughable.

What if the best coach is Bolton?

No I'm really not. Just stating a fact. I didn't make it up, it's true and accurate.

I think Bolton would be a great choice, but he is a big risk to take the club to the ultimate prize.
