Essentially your saying that not playing in the AFL stopped Neil Craig from getting past a prelim... which is laughable.

What if the best coach is Bolton?
No I'm not. I'm saying he didn't take his team to a premiership.
What happened to him after that?

No I'm really not. Just stating a fact. I didn't make it up, it's true and accurate.

I think Bolton would be a great choice, but he is a big risk to take the club to the ultimate prize.

Doesn't mean it is correct. The best man with the best assets gets the job. I dont give a shit if he hasn't played AFL.

Thanks for supporting my point. When it counts ..... WINNING .... they haven't delivered the ultimate prize.

Will you guys be happy with 2nd ... 3rd ... 4th?

I've followed the Blues for 40 years and believe me, if you aren't 1st, you're nowhere.

Suns are approaching a premiership window and I for one would like to be in the crowd when they win it.
So get the best coach with the best probability of delivering a premiership, not a prelim final.
Good thing Adelaide didnt have your attitude when they appointed 3 time runner up Malcolm Blight as their coach. You can still be a good coach without winning the big dance.

No one in the industry has that attitude. It's ridiculous.

Soooo .... who last coached a premiership and never played VFL or AFL?

That attitude of coaches having to be ex-players is only just starting to fade in the past few years so your constant pointing of the finger to old precedent is as close to useless as it gets.

This is my point exactly. There's no reason to exclude non-AFL players from coaching. For example, despite the happenings at the dogs in the past few days, McCartney was a great coach and a fantastic assistant at Geelong even though he was never a top-tier AFL player. Bolton is in the same boat.

There is literally no reason to continue excluding people who aren't ex-players purely because they haven't played at the top level. As you've said, TheJaegerBomb , the times are changing and the whole attitude regarding it all is fading.

It's like saying Blight can coach the Suns, yet he's past it and he would admit that. No-one gets an easy ride in the coaching game and boards aren't willing to give new coaches (Non ex-AFL players) a chance, and McCartney, Watters and Neeld are a great example of this. Not given enough time to develop a club/team. McCartney got a "decent" go but then the players arked up when everything was smooth sailing, and was moving the results the Dogs way. More years down the dark end of the ladder for these clubs.

Rightly so too. We are so far behind other sports in this sense.

I'm open minded about the next coach. I'm not on a one track minded 'only Bolton will do' course.

I merely pointed out that there is a factual added risk to it.

Just because you don't agree doesn't change it.

Do you think it adds any risk at all given the Suns current potential for the top spot?

If any, very little. I think adding a coach with AFL experience who is worn out is a far, far bigger risk.

And just so everyone remembers Bomber comes back tomorrow/Friday. What will happen with him? Gold Coast or Bulldogs jobs are open
If he's consistent he won't put his hand up for the Dog's job, given McCartney was one of his assistants like Sanderson. Looking more and more likely Thompson won't be a head coach at any club next year.

What happens when Bomber starts beating down our door? When he goes through our process?

There's every chance that Bomber's two weeks away has made him think about things and he's really wanting the GC spot. If that's the case, I'm sure his agent has already made the call and Bomber will go for an interview personally to say what he's got to offer and why he's the best man for the job. But to be completely honest, I think he's blown his chances with his poorly worded speech at the EFC B&F. As much as I love him, he came across as a massive campaigner who's trying to undermine the club he apparently 'loves'. Maybe that's not the case, but I guess we'll see.

Very interested to see what happens with him!

He would obviously 'love' the club he played for and captained. He would also 'love' Geelong due to breaking that premiership drought. He did look like a massive twat at the EFC B&F, but a fortnight is a long time and he could "still" want a main job. I still see Bomber in the box seat depending on what he wants and wants to do.

make of this what you will.
A mate of mine who manages a high rise apartment in Broadbeach, told me today that he was sitting next to one Stuart Dew and a few board members from the Gold Coast suns yesterday morning having breakfast in a Broadbeach cafe

Does anyone know anyone on the GC board apart from Witheriff? But that looks like Dew is on their "bucket" list, yet they may have "sped" up the process of interviewing candidates due to Bomber returning. Not saying that they would speed up their announcement but just sped up the process of interviewing their favorite candidates.

Seriously? Very interesting.
