To add from my prior post; the current successful coaches over the past few seasons be it for example, Clarkson, Lyons, Longmire, endured apprenticeships and stepped up to the senior coaching role and have achieved success. And yes plenty of others have done the apprenticeships but haven't made the cut. The fact is, that some guys will be fantastic coaches and others wont be,just like players, some will make the cut and become stars and others that have potential just don't make it.

This is the truth. People get carried away with their theories. They are either cut out to coach a premiership or they're not.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that we'll hear a big story regarding Bomber tomorrow.

Perhaps not now, but it was pretty close when Malthouse took over.

Granted guys like Carazzo and Scotland have gone downhill with age, but guys like Simpson have entered AA form, as well as Murphy and Gibbs entering their physical prime. It balances out pretty well.

Meh, just my opinion really. ;) I thought the list Ratten had wasn't super awesome and he did very well with it.

Massive difference in performance between 2011 St Kilda and 2013 St Kilda....very close to same list but 2 years on and change of coach or philosophy has them at the bottom of ladder trying to turn around. is it coaching, age or just the list was constructed had peaked in potential?

Ratten will get another chance, but not sure I think he's a fit here.

New direction for discussion while we wait for a coach to firm up. Lots of talk right now amongst us that X coach doesn't have what it takes to win a premiership. So going to put out a pair of challenges to you all.

1. Has there been an AFL head coach in the modern era that was a passenger, that regardless of anything he did or didn't do is considered to not be the reason his team won a flag, where the team was so talented you could plug in anyone and get close?

2. Has there been an AFL head coach that was the goods, should have gotten his team over the line, squeezed every bit of luck and skill out of his list and for whatever reason the team just didn't have enough to win on the player side?

Caroline wilson.
Article in the age : Suns warming to serious Eade bid.

Pretty much says Malcom blight has been ringing around all the better candidates to ask if they were interested and all said they would not break exsisting contracts.
Suns have told other unsuccessful candidates they are determined to appoint a proven senior coach.

Eade has stated he isnt keen on coaching again. He is Suns last chance considering Worsfold doesnt want to coach... And Harvey is back at Essendon and Supposably the Suns ruled Bomber Thompson out last week?

Wilson says- says the replacement for Guy Mckenna is expected to be announced over the coming week.
Andy lovell and Dean Solomon will present to the Board early next week as to why they should get the job.

Looking at a thursday or friday next week announcement i guess?

Surely they cant wait till next week to announce a coach? Theres sponsors, players, potential players, etc, etc to show some stability to.

Eade / Bolton as co-coaches, I can see...

My sources have all but confirmed that Tony Shaw will be the next GoldCoast Suns Coach. This is a bit of a shock for me, perhaps he will bring BT over to help him coach the guys and the Human Meatball. You heard it here first.

There is really not many serious candidates left. Bomber, Eade, and Bolton who gets two cracks; 1 as a stand alone coach, and 2, as a co-coach.

Eddie McGuire was angry on MMM this morning that were supposably after Eade after Eade had already stated he isnt interested.. Said Eade is in Collingwoods management team and if he was to leave Gold Coast would have to pay out his contract and damages to Collingwood etc..
If he was an assistant coach.. Totally different story.. But his not a coach at the Pies

Hope we get him just for Eddie's reaction.
Eddie is a cunning man. People my think he just blathers away with bold opinion. But he has method to his spiels. Don't underestimate Eddie.

2015 will be a interim coach on a 1 year contract.. Then we'll poach a gun for 2016
God I hope not. I don't want to go through this again.

I think its why its taking so long, they are getting it right this time. My prediction is co-coaches, of Bolton and another. Either Eade or less likely Thompson. With co-coaches you need yin and yang. Bolton is definitely one side of the equation.

Getting it right..?
They said they want a experienced senior premiership coach..
Every experienced coach they've spoken to has said NO
They didnt want a rookie.. But it looks like thats all thats left..
Thats why its dragging out..

Caro has all the credibility of Craig Thompson

For those that don't remember he was the labor party up and comer that spent health services union money on "ladies if the night" and then lied his ass off about it for 2 years. He has slightly more credibility than Caro

Chris Scott - Geelong

Ross Lyon - St Kilda/Fremantle

"......when Bolton was coaching most of their senior list was out with injury so he was really coaching a shell of the hawks side that ended up winning the premiership. Also, when you look at the clubs assistants if he is rated higher than a lot of the other assistants they have he must be very good at what he does, after all, he has done a fair apprenticeship under Clarkson......"
