This thread is running a bit behind this season.

Most years we are well out of the finals race by now so potential draft picks, trades and off-field additions are all we have. The Henley Beach Cafe thread is usually pumping by now.

Most of our attention will be devoted to our push for finals action, but there will be an upswing in whispers as more teams are mathematically eliminated from the finals equation.

The Bont just looks like a Geelong player tbh.

We have to plan around building a midfield that doesn't include Rachele and Rankine. I love these two as small forwards but I don't think either have shown enough to guarantee that they can be regulars in our midfield rotations. In this years trade and draft, midfield is still the priority.

I suppose if an established best 22 player was available that could work, is this the year we desperately need to draft a mid though?

We have young mids not being played there. I see Draper and Curtin as future midfielders, neither are in the middle at the moment.

Again, it would be interesting to dig into the stats to see what sort of dominance in this area we exerted over the sides we thrashed (typically the weaker sides) as opposed to the sides in and around us. I know the dogs won the clearances last weekend as Beveridge was making that point in the presser. Pretty sure Collingwood did us in as well in the clearances from memory.

No, we won both centre and stoppage clearances against Collingwood and Hawthorn and lost against Brisbane.

Small rumour - mentioned in Inside Trading that we have interest in VFL forwards Sam Davidson and Corey Ellison
These were two rumours from last year that potentially could still be looked into.

I think Tsatas will be delisted or no club will bother due to the horrific disposal but he did play his best game of the season against us and we have valued that in the past.

C4 mentioned a while back that Bailey was possibly gettable from the lions. I'd be into us going big to get him. He could free up Rachele to play more in the midfield along with Rankine.
Port had done some ground work in the event that Bergman left.

We have a positive average centre clearance differential (0.5 per game, ranked 7th in the comp).
Do you have for just against the top 9 teams?

Reckon our defence & attack of won us games where we have lost the centre clearances.

Do we actually want more Rankine in the middle? I think the last few weeks in particular have shown he is far more damaging when playing more up forward. It's far easier to replace 25-30 touches from him as a mid than it is for 15-20 touches and 2-3 goals as a forward. Agree on better mid coaching/structures though.
Think we need use Rankine best where best suits the game.

Don't mind him starting in the centre square then running forward... but don't think we need him much purely on ball unless we need a spark or get him more into the game.

Our midfield looks better with players who can play different roles. Like using Dawson in stints up forward as decent marking target.

I would love to trade in a proven A grade mid if one becomes available. Would even trade this years and the 2026 1st rounders. We are so, so close but just need abit more midfield depth and quality. Given this, it’s frustrating as hell watching Draper playing SANFL.

By the time one is available, Curtin cements a spot there.

It would be great to see Curtin and Draper (Sid variety) starting in the midfield in the pre-season next year, Dawson, Soligo and Peatling rounding it out
