Why in hell would that be Murray or Butts? That's just desperation for desperation sakes because if either showed anything that could turn them into a key forward, they wouldn't be playing as a shutdown key defender.

The smart move is take whatever collateral we can get for Butts instead of wasting our time.
Why not? Both are AFL ready players, both great marks. Plenty of forwards have become defenders over the years, not going to lose much by trying.

If Tex retired this is just an option. The other options seem to be trade for a player using what little draft picks we have, or draft a player in the hope that in 3 years they are AFL ready.

I can't see how with our track record of sacking players like Stengle and targeting "good blokes from good families" in the draft that we'd be interested in Hollands
Didn’t we recruit Stengle though?

Hollands is available

Whether that connects us is debatable
Imho adelaide don't have a culture that can handle a player with issues... we are not geelong. We have a young group of players and 1 bad egg can rot the rest of the pack.

Feel bad saying that cause he's a crows fan as a kid and looked great in his draft year but we have a poor history with players like this in the past.

Imho he didn't look great for carlton. Has a bit of a Troy menzels feel to this...

We liked him in his draft year, we do tend to keep tabs.

I just wonder whether too much water has gone under the bridge.
I'm sure he's a divisive topic in our scouting department right now. As many would have been banging the table for him when we had pick 1.

And getting a player for a packet of chips that you had rated in the pick 1 discussion would be very tempting. Having said that he's not played like a potential pick 1 at AFL level yet. And by all reports, not behaved like a professional as well.

Its a pickle that's for damn sure. I won't lie, I still go back and forth on it regularly

Is the family in Adelaide? that could also be a big factor to help straighten him out.

If we swapped him for Sholl he is worth the risk. He is from Adelaide and as you mentioned he supported us, perhaps the emotional connection to the club will help.
