Agree. With Curtin locking down a wing and with an eye to going through the middle as time passes, we have the following that are our primary mids we need to be rotating through:
Dawson
Soligo
Peatling
Draper
Rankine
Berry.

Personally if we were to obtain a quality forward like Bailey that allowed Rachele to also have stints in the middle, it makes us even more flexible as we have a real mix of size, power, pace and skill across the group.

But even more important than obtaining a quality small forward to enable more Rachele and Rankine in the middle is a better midfield line coach that can fix our structures so we are not losing clearance at the centre week in week out. Get that right and we are the ones winning ball with our group giving first look to our forwards, look out everyone
I still think Rankine is most damaging for us spending most of his time in the forward half. Happy for him to go into the middle for stints, but think he is best suited in the forward line.

Discovered the NWM thread over on the dark side

Apparently 1 of their itk claiming he's coming to them. A St K fan dropped in claiming 1 of their itk has just posted he's staying .. 🍿

Someone else is claiming Cochrane's family has been told he'll be eligible to port via their NGA.

Anyone know when the AFL is releasing their report on their review of the academies and zoning etc, and their decision on any changes?

Hard to see that they'll open up more access to us and the WA clubs right now with Tassie coming in and all of North, Carlton, Essendon and St Kilda more or less dead set shit shows right now. Unless they're going to heavily restrict the northern clubs?

Who know's

It would be great to see Curtin and Draper (Sid variety) starting in the midfield in the pre-season next year, Dawson, Soligo and Peatling rounding it out
Draper, Peatling and Soligo best combination imo. I believe Dawson and Rankine should only be used there in short bursts each, like 5mins a qtr. Probably start Curtin off a similar amount as he is looking good on a wing.

I'm sure Cochrane will be added to Ports NGA, but that's not the same thing as Port being able to match a bid in the first round whete he is expected to go.
I'm also
not sure how Port could satisfy St Kilda on a trade for NWM without trading out one of their best players

I thought he must already be in their NGA. He's already been added or accepted into the AFL's indigenous academy. He's doing his rehab from his recent hamstring injury with port

Maybe I miss read the post, but thought it was saying they'll be able to match a bid?

TBF - it's probably just some flog repeating a rumour they've heard (or made up)

Yeah I shouldn't have used the term NGA. He could or maybe already has been added to Ports academy but he couldn't qualify as a genuine NGA as neither Adelaide or Port currently have a Metro Zone under the NGA indigenous category.

Yep .. any idea when the AFL is going to make a decision on all of that. Aren't they currently reviewing all of that?

What would be hilarious is if in their pursuit of NWM this year, they burn up 2 years worth of future picks and whatever else they could scrape together and then the find out Cochrane is eligible to them under their NGA and they have nothing to match a bid with and he gets drafted by another club...It would be a classic rob Peter to pay Paul scenario

Port won’t need to satisfy them. He’s uncontracted. Saints will fight hard but end up getting bent over. Port will get him for a steal.

Want nothing to do with a bloke who is not interested in playing finals football in a Premiership contending team !

"Avoid at all costs signs " all over this bloke on that point alone !

St Kilda are at least 6/7 years away & Port have to rebuild & will require years of hard draft work !

Let them offer him over $1.2 to $1.5 per year for 5 to 7 years.

Grant Thomas isn't a fan either !

Dawson came to us in 2021, leaving a team that literally played in the GF next year, to join a team that had just finished 15th after being wooden spooners the year before.

Any speculation is good.
I'm just glad the rumours of Clarry to Adelaide have died down
Melbourne know they are stuffed on that, $1M a year average until 2030. Who thought that was a good idea??

No way known any club would cover that contract.

What has Grant Thomas said?

Gee, I hope the price isn't right
He's had a pretty average couple of years now.
I think it would be hard for him to get back to his best.
And his disposal is very ordinary
I am keen on the idea , getting him in a new enviroment with Burgo fitness program again

I was happy to hear we are at least going to look at it

Well the positive for St Kilda is they look like finishing very low, well below Port, so there can be no threat from Port to walk NWM to the PS draft. If they want him they will actually have to deal and they will have stiff competition from Adelaide.

Do we actually want more Rankine in the middle? I think the last few weeks in particular have shown he is far more damaging when playing more up forward. It's far easier to replace 25-30 touches from him as a mid than it is for 15-20 touches and 2-3 goals as a forward. Agree on better mid coaching/structures though.
I tend to agree. Rankine has seemed far
more impactful since being forced to play more forward due to Rash’ injury.

I personally think Rash will make the better midfielder of the two. He is very good in clearances.

Any link for what Thommo says?

Just asking, but were you this adamant when dawson chose us over Port considering it was us in the doldrums and port finishing top 4?

I guess the difference there is we had laid out the work in drafting some talent first and had picks up our sleeve to see the next few years out. We had sunk and were on the way up for sustained success, plus we didn't throw a massive contract at Dawson, it was good but not stupid.

Port are on the way down, have burned draft picks searching and have become a place that Free Agents now avoid than commit to.

There is a marked difference between the two
