George Stevens just about a done deal , surprised if doesn't end up at West Lakes
Ah Chee the same but thats well known

Oliver discussions ramped up again as the situation with Essendon/Merrett is clouding the Petracca move

Don't be surprised if Peatling style it just comes out the blue Clayton is Adelaide bound, certainly not a formality though so don't shoot me if doesn't happen
Any suggestions on players leaving us in potential trades?

We have some players like Sholl and even Berry who we should consider moving out to bring in these new players.

I think Sholl will move on for sure

Berry not so much, he's a favorite of Nicks so he would move him on kicking and screaming

TBH I think Trac will stay at Melbourne when its done because the Merrett stuff will take so long.

So this rumour doesnt surprise me all that much. TBH if we figured out a way to unlock prime Oliver again for 3 or 4 years then hes 100% the player we need.

Thats a big 'if' though
Yeah the Merrett situation is the issue

If it falls over then Petracca will be Hawthorn's main go and also his first preference

So rather than being left the kid without a seat during musical chairs we just bite the bullet on Oliver start of 2nd week of trade period , will give it the first week to see how it plays out and then rip the band aid off if needed

Agree, he will be a RFA next year anyway so we will have to trade for regardless.

Brisbane would be silly to just accept a late teens pick for him, better force a trade and take our picks either year.
Brisbane want the potential for another flag, not draft picks. They're holding him to his contract because he's an essential part of their side.

He loves the hard working blue collar player , probably reminds of himself from his Swans playing days
Great call. Probably a big element of seeing yourself in young guys clouds his judgement. Lot easier in the 90s though for those "hard work" types to make something of themselves. These days you need the skills to back it up.

Honestly, Oliver is the better target. Won’t cost anything at the trade table, is younger, and more of ‘type’ we’re crying out for.

Neither Oliver or Petracca are long term projects but either will help next year.

No Burgess does concern whether we can get Oliver back to his best though.

It's all the built up resentment from his playing days of thinking people don't see or realise who the "genuine" important players in the side are.

Speculation in the speculation thread. Very unbigfooty like. Thank you VLM!

FWIW I’m happy to play draft this year with five National Champs winning SA lads in our range worth a shot. Mids and talls. Got a good vibe about these players like a Geelong or Sydney would be all over them vibe and we go later after they are guns ….. why didn’t we look at them.

Is Stevens the most common surname we have had?

Mark, Scott, Linden, potentially now George and a Father-Son Mitchell
As others mentioned it looks like Cook is the clubhouse leader with 4 (at an average of 14.75 games per player). Which Stevens would match with another or pass with both.

A few others on 3 (only counting those that actually played a game):
Brown (David, Luke, Tyler)
Thompson (Luke, Robert, Scott)

No Burgo worried me , but seeing he has cherry picked his replacement fills me with confidence

Plus the fact Oliver and Burgo still keep in touch , he is there to mentor him from afar if needed

Oliver coming in allows us to keep our first and try and trade up in the draft for one of Sharp, Shubert or Cumming

I don't get why Taylor got games when Rachelle got injured. Cook has a much higher ceiling and has shown in glimpses he can do elite things. Cook may not get many touches, but neither does Taylor.
Zac uses Meguiars on Nicks' car were as Cook is a stock standard el cheapo SCA home brand man

Digging a bit deeper, 1 thing statistically Oliver brings has always been high end clearance work. At his peak he had 199 clearances in 23 games. Thats bonkers!

Even last year in 23 games he got more clearances (121) then Dawson did (109, our best) in 25.

Considering as a team we had a +268 hitouts and -47 clearances. Yeah, Oliver does have a growing appeal. He certainly never seemed to have a problem reading ROBs taps as a Demon.

Cook struggles to find the pill at SANFL level at times, and personally I think Taylor is still the better player.

Oliver has also been roving to the most exceptional dominant ruckman Max Gawn in the last 20 years. Wouldn't have that luxury at the Crows.
