speeding fines

I got fined on a section of road where it goes from 80 - 60 as you go around a bend. The cop was sitting close to the sign, so when I went past I got done. I was doing 74 km/h. My fault, so I copped it on the chin.

These days, I just make sure I slow down to 60 before I pass the sign.

However, it really annoys me when cops sit their cameras, or with their radar gun, just after the sign.

It's not simply about breaking the speed limit, the thing that affects most people is when you get caught at a time when your speed has simply crept or spike above 60 for a very short period, however you drive nearly all the time at (or below) the speed limit. This happens to everyone and to be fined for a simple error is ridiculous. These types of occurences are not responsible for accidents and deaths. Rather, it is people who regularly drive above the speed limit and drive recklessly.

Drive at 55 then and it won't happen.

You have nothing to complain about.

Cameras are partly about revenue I have no doubt, but the revenue has to come from somewhere.

You know you may get pinged and yet still engage in behaviour that puts you at risk. Its your choice.

i'd hardly call going 4k over in a 60 zone, on a big wide quiet road where u can see all around, a risk to myself. like i said, if its such a risk then why havent there been any crashes there for like 4+ years?

Easier said than done. You're not perfect, neither is anyone else.

That post is spot on. THEY'RE the cause of deaths on our roads. Not a driver doing 3k's for a very short amount of time on a prick of a slope. It only takes a split second.

I seriously hope you continue to get pinged for 64 in a 60 zone, and not where you deserve it, but for the split second, and positioning of camera caught you out.

Wrong again flanders.

In this day and age, people crack the ****s if you're doing anywhere near as much as 5k's under the limit, ESPECIALLY in an open wide road capped at 60k's an hour. Generally, from what I see, if you tend to drive slower, you'll get ********s speeding up passed you, and more reckless driving around.

It's a lose lose situation.

So because you think other people drive faster, you have to? If they're getting upset because you're obeying the speed limit then that is their problem.

Not real bright are you?

When road rage results from it, it becomes your problem too!!

You answered your own question right there.

Oh, will you look at this, amazing. Does Santos the deprived man have a groupie? You must fit into the same category.

Here's my official last post, I don't have time, maybe in the near future I will have time to 'debate'. But you're such morons, that you strive on attacking other peoples English which is purely pathetic, and such a geek sun deprived thing to do on a forum.

Obviously lacking in other places as i've stated before. Problems with communcating in real life, so you sit behind a monitor, s******ing. Ha - you'll realise one day how sad you are, and you'll fall into a pit of self depression.

Are you f*cked in the head? Like seriously? Has the monitor radiation ruined you that much, that you're a total ****?

Since when did I say you need to drive faster? You fart crumb. Seriously, I said you stick to the speed limit, as on a road where it already feels slow enough doing 60, people don't want to wait behind you. It's a pain in the arse, but it's reality.

As someone else has stated, you want to avoid road rage.

Firstly, I didn't mention speeding, simply going at the speed limit. Secondly, ever been exposed to road rage? Trust me - driving at 60km/h is safer!!

No problemo.

Although having said that, I have had a couple of tossers yell at me when I was sitting dead on the speed limit. Weird.

Well I seriously hope no one runs you off the road, as much as you're a total wnker, I wouldn't wish it upon anyone.

You've obviously never experienced road rage of any form.

And you're taking words and placing them to suit yourself. You do a great job of ignoring what has been said.

What has been stated is: driving under the limit can cause hassles, so you need to stick as close to it as possible.

If you're experiencing road rage then you need to seek help. You are the one with the problem not those around you.

Learn to relax! You'll feel better for it. :)

Why are you calling me Flanders and where have I been wrong?

I personally think it IS possible to drive at 60 without going over and even if you do its likely there will not be a camera.

Plenty of people drive between 55 and 60 on the road. Its annoying for law breakers like you and me but nothing wrong with it.

Mate you should belt up if you will pardon the pun

You have been throwing around more pesonal insults than almost anyone else on this thread.

Don't get angry just because people disagree with you.

santo. Drinking and Speeding are too DIFFERENT things ALTHOGETHER. Not the same, so dont compare them. Ones where it makes you get intoxicated and makes you slow and drousy, the other is an action. And get back to the point, Drinking does not have anything to do with Cameras.

The government gets enough money as it is, as they collect $500 per driver a year to register their cars. $500 times by i donno, how many people are in melb? Say um 3,000,000ppl = $1,500,000,000 PER YEAR but its not enough i guess :)

Just did a little experminent on the way to the shops. Sat just below the speed limit and didn't experience any hassles.

Just drive carefully, it's not hard.

That would hardly count as an "experiment."

I did a little "experiment" once too. Walked through NY late at night, hence I concluded that NY streets are completely safe as I wasn't hassled...

Or is an experminent (sic) something different...?

Yeah good one, because one drive is going to determine how traffic and keeping under the limit affects you.

Not that it really matters what my education is, but your reply simply makes my argument stronger than ever. If you can pass English then your teacher needs to be fired.

The biggest problem today is that English, particularly Year 12, focuses on the actual content - topic, relevance, all that sort of stuff, rather than what you'd think was important in English - spelling, grammar, syntax, punctuation, etc. You can make all sorts of these errors in the English exams, but as long as your content is OK (eg, in our exam, is expository, or is persuasive, or whatever), then you can get a perfect score for it. It's BS. There seems to be an increasing problem with the English of students who are around my age or less. There are plenty of people who DON'T have a problem with it, but just more and more people who can't deal with basic English. I don't know where the sudden decline occurred, or how, but it's incredibly frustrating the constant incorrect use of words like it's/its, their/there/they're, where/were/we're, to/too, and so on. And, Saint4Life: I think you took the bait far too easily in that post about education, or took it far too literally, or something. And shorthand spelling & punctuation does get annoying sometimes. ;)

But I digress. Re the topic: whether cameras are revenue raisers or not, surely the easiest solution is to not speed at all. A 100km/h speed limit is there for a reason; it doesn't say "100 give or take five." As for speedos, if they are more than 3km/h out (which is also the tolerance on the limit), then it's your problem, not the cops' - get it fixed. I don't understand how people can possibly whinge about speed cameras - JUST DON'T SPEED. Argh. If you do, you probably deserve to pay ridiculous fines.
