Shouldve stayed as the razorbacks at the pig pen and made the kings fans come to them.

The Spirit is is a rubbish name that would surely drive more away than bring in.

i dont blame the name or any of that crap. The reason of the low attendance is becuase more then half Australia dont even know the NBL has started.. not on TV (yet) and theres not much media news on it.

Going well in Melbourne, over 9,000 to last nights game between the Dragons and Tigers. Outside of Melbourne - the league is stuffed. Less than 1000 is just unbelievable, sponsors will drop off dramatically because of this. I'm really not too sure what the answer is, possibly take the league away for a season in the same vein as the a-league. Show the people what they are missing and they may come crawling back???

The Spirit were never going to succeed. Kings fans see them as the Razorbacks with different colours, name etc while Razor fans see them as a soulless franchise that killed their club. Did they really expect people to turn up? What a joke of a club.

Only good for the derby games. Dragons were only drawing 2k at some games earier while the Tigers fans are mostly diehards still around from the 90's.

How long untill they fold I'll be generous and say the end of 2009.
End of this season. No way will the new NBL board give them a licence for the 2009/10 season after losing $800,000 last year (as the razorbacks) and it looks like they will loss almost $1 million dollar this year as the Sydney sprit. Not a chance.

brian goorjian said on SEN this morning the state of basketball in sydney is diabolical, and thats off the court grass roots infrastructure he was talking about. i think he also said they just have to drop having a sydney team in the nbl alltogether.

Rep ball doesn't even go all year round in Sydney which is a joke. I think basketball in Sydney has a future, the Kings still managed to get 10k to Game 5 last season which shows people are still interested, that future doesn't include the Spirit though.

That Tim Johnston spiv has killed basketball up here. Call me bitter if you like, but there's no way I'm going to support the Razorbacks.
The Kings weren't well administered, and their promotions were absolutely dumb. But even if they'd been rolling in cash and had sold out the Kingdome every week, all it would have done was created more assets for Johnston to strip for his criminal corporate frauds; and the club would have gone to the wall anyway.

I've seen all this before, with another team called Spirit in the old NSL - in their golden era packed the crowds in and were the hottest ticket in town, but finished off in front of a few hundred and an overpowering whiff of death. I've seen a dying league before, I know what a dying league looks like - and I see one with the NBL. But does basketball have a Frank Lowy-esque white knight to ride in and re-create the game?

exactly, well said.

even with the support of foxsports and the nbl and their love of the kings it couldnt stop bad admin from stuffing up the team.
