MBF takes on Lions partnership

3:07 PM Mon 09 February, 2009
Lions.com.au

The Brisbane Lions' partnership with leading private health insurer HBA will go from strength to strength with today's announcement that HBA's sister brand MBF will take over the role as the Lions' Major Support Sponsor.

MBF and HBA became sister brands in 2008 when HBA's parent company Bupa Australia merged with MBF to create the largest non-government operated health insurer in the country.

MBF has been serving the health and care needs of Queenslanders since 1950 and is a leading private health insurance brand in the State.

MBF's Head of Market Development and AFL legend Peter Hudson explained the reason behind re-branding the Lions under the MBF banner, was because MBF is so well known amongst Queenslanders.

"Queenslanders know MBF - they love it and trust it - just like they know, love and trust their Lions," he said.

Lions Chief Executive Michael Bowers was delighted the Club would continue its partnership with Australia's leading health fund through the trusted MBF brand.

"It's very reassuring to know that a core business partner who's just as passionate as we are about footy, fitness and health is now larger and even more committed to the Lions than ever," Mr Bowers said.

"Through our partnership we've already created two extremely valuable social programs with MBF Schools Assist - where schools can apply for the equipment they need to conduct active footy programs for students, and the MBF Lions Alliance which supports the fundraising activities of Queensland charities through player appearances, signed memorabilia donations, match-day tickets and Lions supporter packs."

Peter Hudson reminded fans that the brand changes were going to mean access to a broader service centre network, and a greater range of health and care products to choose from.

"Brisbane Lions members who are insured with MBF or HBA don't need to do a thing. Club members can be confident that they'll receive high quality customer care through their existing HBA or MBF membership, only with access to a greater range of products and services, and a more extensive member centre network."

"Our partnership with the Brisbane Lions is about supporting the Queensland community and encouraging the next generation to start a healthier lifestyle today." Mr Hudson said.

Lions Captain Jonathan Brown was excited the Club would continue working with MBF to promote healthy lifestyles and give more Queensland school children a taste of Aussie Rules football.

"It's not only the Lions and our fans who will benefit from the partnership with MBF, but also students from more than 160 Queensland schools participating in the MBF Schools Assist program," Brown said.

The MBF Schools Assist aims to get Queensland school children more actively involved in AFL programs and clinics through sporting equipment donations and tickets to attend Brisbane Lions matches at the Gabba.

The program gives many Queensland children the opportunity of a lifetime - to be coached by and have a kick with some of their favourite Lions AFL stars.

De Bortoli Wines official Lions wine partner

11:05 AM Mon 16 February, 2009
Lions.com.au

The Brisbane Lions continue to kick goals off the field with their announcement of a new commercial partnership with De Bortoli Wines for the 2009 AFL Premiership season.

De Bortoli Wines now holds the exclusive wine pourage rights for all Lions functions hosted at the Gabba this year, in addition to stadium signage and event branding on Lions hospitality items.

De Bortoli Wines is an Australian family-owned company established in the New South Wales' Riverina District in 1928 with sites in the Yarra Valley, King Valley and Hunter Valley.

De Bortoli Queensland State Manager Howard Lawrence said he was thrilled by the prospect of the fresh partnership.

"It's no-nonsense, passionate determination that produces results in the elite and often challenging world of professional sport. We have those very same beliefs and values at De Bortoli so we're very excited to be working with the Lions in 2009," Mr Lawrence said.

Lions Chief Executive Michael Bowers was equally pleased by the commercial alignment.

"Quite simply, the quality of wine we serve at our prestigious Gabba match-day functions and during our off-site gala events really sets the tone for the Lions as providers of high-quality sporting entertainment," Mr Bowers said.

"So to have industry champions and multi-award winners De Bortoli Wines onboard ticks that box perfectly for us and their desire to get involved with our members on the ground level shows what an innovative and motivated relationship-minded people they are."

"I certainly hope to be toasting Vossy, Browny and the boys with a superb glass of Deen Vat or Windy Peak in some capacity come September this year that's for sure."

Now in its third generation, De Bortoli embodies a strong family wine growing culture intent on creating a sustainable legacy for future generations.

2009 promises to be an especially exciting year - not only for the Lions, but also for De Bortoli Wines as their 2008 vintage looks to over deliver on quality in all wine categories.

De Bortoli owns recognised brands such as Windy Peak, Gulf Station, Sacred Hill and the highly awarded Deen Vat Series.

De Bortoli will also offer Lions members exclusive deals throughout the year to share the celebrations of this new business partnership with the Club's own legion of fans.

Bank of Queensland re-signs for three years

5:12 PM Wed 18 February, 2009
Lions.com.au

Long-time Brisbane Lions major support sponsor Bank of Queensland has renewed their close partnership with the Club for a further three years until the end of Season 2011.

The extended Bank of Queensland sponsorship incorporates strong electronic scoreboard branding, multiple corporate facilities, game-day activities sponsorship and Chairman's Circle match-day function entitlements at the Gabba.

Bank of Queensland has been a major support sponsor of the Lions since the 2002 premiership year.

"Bank of Queensland and the Brisbane Lions keep succeeding as partners because we're both heavily focussed on customers," Lions Chief Executive Michael Bowers said.

"We believe in delivering personal service and having an intimate relationship with our members - which is exactly the way Bank of Queensland does their business."

"Furthermore, both organisations are proud of their maroon-grown origins and we're both looking to dominate in the local Queensland and southern markets."

"We've shared a lot of business acumen, innovation and passion in the pursuit of excellence since 2002, so it's extremely gratifying to have them re-sign with us during these turbulent economic times."

"Bank of Queensland and the Brisbane Lions feel extremely confident both on and off the field sporting-wise and business-wise as we head into Season 2009."

Senior Lions Leadership Group player Luke Power has been the Bank of Queensland's Banking on our Kids annual Children's Hospital Foundations Australia charity ambassador and television commercial star, while fellow Lions champion and close friend Simon Black owns Bank of Queensland branches at both Kallangur and Southport.

Devine Ltd renews for 2009

12:02 PM Tue 24 February, 2009
Lions.com.au

The Brisbane Lions AFC is pleased to announce that major support sponsor Devine Limited has renewed and upgraded their partnership with the Club for Season 2009 with a further option for 2010 and 2011.

The Devine Ltd sponsorship centres around the Club's new Senior Coach and 'Lion King' Michael Voss after a long and successful partnership with former coach Leigh Matthews which commenced in 2002.

Devine Ltd branding will feature prominently on the Lions' coaching box at the Gabba, on official Lions team apparel worn by Voss and his Assistant Coaches and on Gabba stadium signage. Devine Ltd guests will also support the Club's prestigious Chairman's Circle match-day functions.

Lions Chief Executive Michael Bowers was proud to continue the Club's ongoing alliance with this powerhouse organisation whose founder and Managing Director David Devine is the Lions' new Number One Ticketholder for Season 2009 onwards.

"David is a Brisbane and Queensland property development icon, a long-time Gabba corporate suite holder and a senior member of the Club's elite 'Lethal Lions' business group," Mr Bowers said.

"So it says something about the strength and popularity of this footy club that we can have someone of the commercial calibre as David Devine not only upscaling his strong sponsorship with us, but becoming our Number One Ticketholder as well."

"David's been one of our inaugural 'Lethal Lions' and Devine Ltd's been one of our great sponsors since the premiership heydays of 2002. In fact, David's been supporting us since we were the Brisbane Bears so he's genuinely passionate about this Club."

"But if there was ever a time to reap the rewards of a fresh Lions coach's sponsorship, then it's right now with Vossy onboard injecting himself and his determined energy into our revitalised playing group."

Re: Sponsor Watch.

Did they say why?

They are pulling out of all AFL sponsorships, Brisbane, Port Adelaide, North Melbourne and West Coast.

Supposedly a combination of the global financial crisis and also difficulties and conflicts arising from the AFL's major partnership with Telstra.

We'll find someone. We aren't the Demons.

Wouldn't surprise me if we had someone lined up already, we wont hear anything until Vodafone's sponsorship expires.

Can't find a link, but the article did say that Vodaphone had advised the Lions of this some time ago. So it would be safe to say we have been on the hunt for a while.

Betting agencies will most likely be lining up as the AFL has just relaxed those rules, but there are 4 teams at least looking for a sponsor now.

Wonder if the blue on the jumper can now be moved back to it's original position:eek:

I think Vodaphone has pulled out of sponsorship as they merged with Hutchison Telecoms (which is 3) some time ago, information here: http://www.vodafone.com.au/stelprd/groups/webcontent/documents/webcontent/merger.pdf

That would be a Puma thing CtD. The club must talk to Puma about it. I like the blue higher up too and having more maroon on the jumper. The maroon is an important part of the jumper as we are a Queensland team and it is the state colour. Add more maroon to the jumper (as it once was) before the Gold Coast comes in I'd say. Queenslander through and through.

Exactly. No way in the world.

Dear Mr Bowers
We have received your order for 10,000 Brisbane Lions jumpers. We have taken the liberty of making it way more blue though because it looks awesome.

Kind Regards

Vodafone's major Lions sponsorship enters final season

Pat Cunningham, Head of Sponsorship at Vodafone Australia, said: “Vodafone has enjoyed a high-profile association with the Brisbane Lions and we wish the Club continued success. Vodafone’s partnership with the Lions has delivered strong results in Queensland. However, we’re now looking to diversify our sponsorship portfolio into new areas, with a stronger interest in music.”

http://www.lions.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/5085/newsid/72725/default.aspx

I heard that Vodaphone were moving more into the area of music as in music downloads to their phones, etc. I wonder if they will try and buy record labels/companies so they can have exclusive rights to that music and how it's distributed, although I have no idea how it all works.

Anyway, it looks like we're are shopping around for a new sponsor and that's very exciting.

Coca-Cola Amatil signs as new Lions sponsor

2:32 PM Sat 14 March, 2009
Lions.com.au

Coca-Cola Amatil (CCA), Australia’s largest beverage and food manufacturer, today announced it has signed a five-year sponsorship deal with the Vodafone Brisbane Lions Australian Football Club.

The deal will see CCA become a Major Support Sponsor of the Lions and a market leading brand at the team’s world famous home ground – the Gabba.

CCA General Manager QLD, Ross Morgan said securing the Brisbane Lions partnership represented a significant milestone for CCA.

“Coca-Cola Amatil is delighted to be aligned with such an iconic Queensland brand which will offer many opportunities to customers during the week and especially on match-days,” Mr Morgan said.

“The Brisbane Lions are one of the most celebrated sporting brands in the AFL and we are committed to supporting the performance of their players through our sports drink Powerade.”

Powerade, Australia’s leading sports drink works closely with the AFL, its clubs and its players to assist in sports and hydration leadership and innovation.

Mr Morgan said the new Lions deal meant CCA now sponsored all key AFL teams across Australia.

“CCA has been a long-standing supporter of AFL in Australia for the past 20 years. We are proud to now be in a position to support this powerful sporting code right across the country,” he said.

“In addition to supporting the State teams, we will continue to work closely with AFL Queensland to bring the sport to even more young children through a grassroots AFL program.”

CCA was most recently associated with the Lions in 2003 and will re-join the Club’s sponsorship family with an aim to build and sustain a successful partnership for future seasons.

Brisbane Lions Chief Executive Michael Bowers was thrilled to be rekindling a commercial agreement with Australia’s largest beverage and food manufacturer.

“Coca-Cola Amatil is arguably the world’s most recognisable brand and their previous association with the Club coincided with the Lions’ hat-trick of AFL premierships – so we’re certainly pleased to welcome them back to the Gabba with us for Season 2009 and beyond,” Mr Bowers said.

“Their ground-breaking sports drink already assists with hydrating our players and helping to maintain their level of performance, while members and supporters will also benefit from a selection of Coke’s high quality beverages at all Lions home games.”

The sponsorship deal is effective as of 1 March 2009.

ABOUT CCA:
An ASX 100 listed company, CCA is Australia’s largest beverage and food manufacturer, and one of the world’s top five Coca-Cola bottlers, with operations in Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and Fiji.

Some of CCA’s brands include: Coca-Cola, Coca-Cola Zero, diet Coke, Fanta, Sprite, Sprite Zero, Lift, Powerade Isotonic, Powerade No-Sugar, Glaceau vitamin water, Pump and Pumped water, Mount Franklin, Neverfail Springwater, Kirks, Deep Spring, Goulburn Valley juices and flavoured milk, Nestea Iced Tea and Mother. CCA also owns Grinders Coffee and SPC Ardmona, Australia’s largest producer of packaged fruit and vegetables.

Pacific Beverages, CCA’s joint venture company with SABMiller, sells and distributes premium beer brands Peroni, Miller Genuine Draft, Miller Chill, Pilsner Urquell, Grolsch, Bluetongue and Bondi Blonde; as well as Jim Beam and other premium spirits. CCA manufactures Jim Beam and Cola and Jim Beam and No Sugar Cola in its operations in Adelaide and now at Richlands in Queensland.

CCA will begin work on Pacific Beverages’ new $120 million Bluetongue Brewery this month.
