Sponsor Watch

I'm wrapped the club has announced the new sponsorship in time for round 1. It's been revolving doors for major sponsors over the last few years so hopefully this is the beginning of a long & stable partnership, only poor performance on the field would dictate otherwise you'd think.

NOTE: THE FOLLOWING POST IS A LIGHTHEARTED CONSTRUCTION (but with an undercurrent of SAUSAGES, THAT'S PROBABLY THE BEST IDEA YOU'VE EVER HAD :D)

Ok - some of you....well, maybe only a FEW of you....are aware of my wholesome addiction to Girls Generation, a South Korean all-girl super group. Here's their wiki.

Here's a video for your consumption - one of their best if you ask for my scholarly assessment.

Now.....these performers aren't sex symbols (at least not to me) - I think they are just neat, cool and THE LIVING EMBODIMENT OF THE PHOENIX FORCE (that last bit is for the MCU fans amongst us ie, Davemonkey). No scandals, no sordid tabloid coverage, no overt, trampy sexualising of their image...just good, wholesome role models for everyone, imho.

NOW THEN....

Research conducted by me today has uncovered a song of theirs that I was unaware of called....LIONHEART. You see where I'm going with this? :D

I don't much care for the Lionheart song, BUT - as the AFL wants to push it's presence into the Asian market....we should take the opportunity to try and develop a relationship with the GG brand (which is owned, naturally, by a corporation) - and the GG brand is pretty wholesome. These are talented performers, all of them bilingual or trilingual and part of the massive K-Pop and J-Pop market. They aren't trashy Western pop wannabes, whose music videos are inching closer to pornography and whose success largely depends on keeping up a cycle of grubby news stories circulating in social media.

They already have Lion imagery as part of their promotional package for the song:

Thanks for your consideration, my fellow Lions' fans.

Yours sincerely
Sausages

In time we will have north and South Korea fighting it out with a footy match instead of a more sinister alternative.

As for Japan, wasn't there a Japanese rookie on the lions list in 2010? Would've been a great ambassador for the game in Japan had he made it. Not to late though. We should get Babymetal to do the GF half time show. That would be epic.

I'm as uncomfortable about the XXXX sponsorship as I am about Neds. This kind of advertising is going to get banned at some point like cigarette advertising (for the good of society I think), but I don't know if 'moral outrage' describes the majority of people who are not happy about these kinds of sponsors because of their affect on society.

Gambling and alcohol abuse are pretty rife in Australian culture and we punch well above our weight in per capita drinking and gambling debts worldwide.

Bundy was ok with it because he's made his peace with why he did it - but the situation he found himself in is exactly why shoving this sort of thing down people's throats on TV isn't a good net result.

This view isn't sensationalist and it's not fringe.

The market in Brisbane means it's tough to get anyone to pay good sponsorship dollars - especially considering how terrible the team has been over the last 10+ years.

Once we're out at Springfield paying much less rent, and hopefully doing better on the field, I'm confident we can give the pokies the flick and be a bit more picky with the industries we stick on our jumper.

I think we will be more likely to set up a second social club tbh. Springfield has the sort of demographic that allow pokie palaces to thrive.

I’ve always thought of pokies as reverse ATMs. Strip away the lights and noises and you are sitting there feeding your money back into the ATM. Only difference is it isn’t going back into your bank account.

Apologies for the bluntness, but I really don’t think you have much clue about how much work goes into attracting a sponsor in this market.

Please share your years of wisdom with me then? I’m sure I’d have just as much of a clue as you, you just don’t agree with my asssment.
I’m not saying it’s easy. Doing the right thing isn’t always easy. Judging from the nonchalant responses, I really don’t think many people here have much of a clue as to the damage these companies cause. Again, you’re entitled to “it’s a business” view, but I’ll take compassion and care first.

Would it be more compassionate and caring to let loyal staff go because we can’t afford to pay them?

We have deleted the Neds announcement off Twitter and Neds isn't listed as a sponsor on our website anymore...

Also yesterday I saw on Neds Twitter that they had a promotion going to give away tickets to Saturday's game. That has been deleted also.

That is a very interesting development. Good find.

Wouldn’t be surprised if either party decided to change their mind in response to the way it played out.

Yeah I noticed that also. All seems weird.
Just got off the phone with neds after placing a bet, asked the bloke what was goin on regarding our club sponsorship, was put on hold for a minute, then he said he wasn't sure if it was going through & said that "nothing was guaranteed during the week," regarding it.... more to come on this I'm guessing

I’m guessing Neds have walked.

Wonder if it’s due to the adverse reaction by Lions fans that they just saw no value in the sponsorship.

Hope said Lions fans are happy if we have to cut staff/resources from our footy department.
