Um Gumby, Ryder, Neagle.

The thing is KPP take at least 4 years to probably 'break even'

Especially defenders, have a look at James Clement, Glass none of them were the best defenders when they were 21.

I was comparing Brown and Pavlich's stats with John Kennedy's a few weeks ago and came across some interesting facts like

For 7 seasons Brown's ave was 1.63 goals a game or 35 a season
Pavlich from 2000-2004 so 5 seasons averaged 1.02 goals a game so 22.4 goals a season. Post

So yeah, you do have KPP coming through but don't expect them to be doing the same as Lucas, Lloyd, Fletcher and Michael for some time.

From an outsider's view and i'm not attempting to troll. (feel free to correct me where i'm wrong you lot probably know more than me regarding Essendon)

I honestly think the bombers will struggle for the next few years.

Apart from last years draft, there hasn't been many quality youngsters coming through. For most of Sheedy's career he's managed to 'top' up a list to great success, and find quality players that struggled at other clubs.
The last couple of years however have really not worked out that well with regards to trading.

Strengths for Essendon are your terrific forward line and solid defense. Your best players in these positions have probably 3 years left in them.

Weakness is your midfield, probably bottom 4 in the competition, although this looks to be rectified from drafting it will most likely take another 2 years before your midfield is in the top8 of the competition.

At this time I feel your Forward and back lines will be heavily hit with retirements.

So I don't quite think Essendon will get the spoon next year, I do feel you will be languishing in the bottom 6 for another 3-4 years.

Best Case scenario is of course players like Gumbleton, Ryder, Dempsey,Monfries, Neagle come along a lot quicker than expected and fill the void of those key players expected to retire, then you have a chance to be mixing it in 8 the in 1-2years time.

Probably close to the mark. Unless a few of the young blokes really improve quicker than expected it will probably take us 3 or 4 years to be a consistant finals side again.

I am prediciting bottom four. Hopefully not rock bottom because of the humiliation factor. Is there any indication of a superdraft coming forth over the next year or two? :p

Iv'e got no idea. 08 is going to be unpredictable i reckon, because we don't know what players Knights is going to be playing or where they will be play, what game plan he will be use and other stuff like that.

I wouldn't be suprised if we finished with the spoon though, on the other hand our young midfielders could come on sooner than expected and help the key senior players get us into a top 4 spot.
Anything is possible.

the only thing that worrys me is our 2007 record without hird. which was most of the second half of the season. and we won only 3 of 11 games in the second half.
but then again. if davey was playing. and we didn't lose fletcher and lloyd in some matches due to injury and suspension, we would have gotten somewhere this year.

I'd be surprised if we got the spoon. I think we're a good bit better than that though I think our best result is 7 or 8. Probably finish about 10th. Injuries obviously will play a massive role.

Hird is a massive loss but often teams can do just as well or better when the star leaves as strange as it sounds as the others lift to fill the void (look up the "Ewing effect").

So much depends on how guys like Watson, Nash, Winder, Stanton, Hocking, Dempsey, Houli, Hislop and Laycock develop. I'm confident they'll leave us well clear of the spoon.

lol i started this thread and no im not a carlton supporter, never have been and never will be-.-

its just a question i wanted to ask and get a response from another bomber supporter's point of view.

Lol you guys really overate sheedy and hird dont you
Matthews is way ahead of sheeds as good as sheeds was
Norm Smith also wasnt bad

How many coaches have S***mond had in the past 27 years??? Jewell, Bourke,Bartlett, Jeans, Northey, Gieshen, Frawley(im running out of room!!!) ALL SACKED!!! Im sick of these deadbeat S***MOND & Carlton supporters coming into our board sticking the boot in! How can they say Hird was overrated??? Matthews is a great coach but he's no Sheedy! What are the S***mond supporters going to do next season when Wallace gets the boor mid season, odviously spit on him!

I DO!! Bottom 2

Without Hird this year you may have finished in the bottom 3 or so anyway....
It would be the best thing for your club if you do the Carlton way a bit... All Jokes Aside--We have a very bright future because of it..
When i think 2000, i think Essendon..when i think 95 its da Blues--

IF YOUR NOT WINNING GRANDFINALS THEN SUCK EGGS AND REBUILD THE BEST WAY...

Long term you will be a powerhouse again like the Blues competing for the 17th

wat u mean carlton way? breach the salary cap and lose almost 1 million which made your club the horrible team it is today? you can't rly liveo na team where mids are striving to survive

No chance of spoon you fools!!!!!!!!

Here's why:

Lloyd and Lucas will kick about 120+ goals.

Fletch, Mal and Ryder will have the defence covered.

All the guys that have 20-70 games will improve - Stanton, Watson, Winderlich, Nash, NLM, Davey, Lovett, Laycock, Monfries, Slattery.

We will have impact throughout the year at various times from Gumby, Jetta, Hislop, Houli, Reimers, Neagle, Lonergan.

Rama will prove what a good player he really was and still can be.

And finally the jewell in the crown... Dempsey. He will announce himself next year as a player to watch.

Anything less than finals and I'd be seriously disappointed.

as much i would love to see it essendon wont win the spoon. its probably carlton or richmond judd will not b the mother of all differences in that team as good as he is and they will probably get the collingwood gene of the late 90's of being too one player dependant, it happened at arsenal with henry and look how well they are playing well without him!

The guys in bold will determine where you can finish on the ladder,

Expect your top 4 players to do a great job, and the 'imapct at various time' players to show glimpses of what they can do.

The Bolded players will be the ones verging on 50games / just over and will need to be solid contributors, or else i'd guess you will be around 13th on the ladder.

Completely correct.

Percentage 91 for 2007 that was the problem, all the wishing in the world will not help, to get out of mid field on the ladder we have to have a % above 110, that requires the back line to step up a bit more, the forwards were ok in 2007 so mid field again (10/14).

from an outsiders point of view i reckon the Spoon is yours or Richmonds, wouldnt be surprised that with Judd and the endless amounts of 1st round picks Carlton have they will avoid it and maybe finish 12th or above

So

Essendon - 16
Richmond - 15
Melbourne - 14
Adelaide - 13
Carlton - 12

and onwards
