My question is, can you spot a liar? Are you gullible or have you got a sixth sense for it? I'm getting better at it but by no means can I tell if someone is telling a porkie each and every time. If you have the knack for it, what gives it away when you can spot it?

On the flipside, are you a good liar? If you are, how do you do it? I am RUBBISH at lying (I have a heavy conscience), and so I try never do it, haha.

Can't say I can spot one but instincts have taken over in recent years.

I just can't help disengaging from eye contact when someone is lying. Just trust those instincts now as they invariably prove to be correct.

If you look to the left , you're lying

At least that's what Sam Jackson said in " THE NEGOTIATOR "

Not sure that's correct.

I tend to look to the left when I'm recalling things and I think I've heard that before as being the case for most people.

Maybe it was right :)

Not very good at spotting a liar or a lie being told... get annoyed when I work it out though... There is always the pinnochio paradox....

if pinnochio says the phrase "my nose will now grow" the whole universe/space-time-continuum will implode.

I'm a bloody good liar. Have read a lot about certain tells for people lying and have used that to my advantage. Started when my mum busted me for lying when i was like 6 or 7 and said "I know you're lying because you can't look me in the face." So from then on i made sure i looked her in the eyes when i lied. Same with all the other stuff, don't scratch your nose or anything. Definitely don't overdo the details, that's a dead giveaway too.

i usually take people for what they say at the time, but if it sounds dubious i'll have a think about a bit later and am usually reasonably good at seeing through any false or half truths.

Yeah but then don't people get suss that you are suddenly locked in focusing on their eyes with a degree of intensity?

Tells generally aren't 'standard' and specific to an individual so that you usually have to know someone for a while to learn them. Absolute best of course is witnessing them doing it to someone else first hand when you know the truth..

On the Internet is of course just so much harder but when someone tells so much obvious bullshit over a decent length of time it gets pretty easy to see.

The key to lying is confidence. As George Costanza said, "it's not a lie unless you believe it"
I try not to lie but like most people I assume I still do on a regular basis for whatever reason
It wouldn't be hard to catch you out lying. It's called interrogation through rapid fire questions.

A Lie Detector machine is all based around spotting changes and big swings to a persons base level natural state (facial expressions, voice inflexion, sweating, blushing, fidgeting, heart rate, nerve twitching, and on an advanced level, like police interrogators, picking apart memory recall and choice of words, lack of detail in stories, overly generalized descriptions, certain descriptive words used too often to cover over the lack of details, and so on.

So being a good liar, is essentially as has been mentioned before....truly believing the story/lie you are telling/selling....and having a rock solid memory. Basically method acting. Truly being and behaving like the person you are presenting to someone else.
